You might be tempted to drive right past this place---I did! There is a sign on the road proclaiming it's name, but when you face Mordecai's it appears to be someone's home. There are no neon bar signs in the windows. In fact, the only word you'll see near the building itself is a small picket saying the premises are protected by ADT Security.
Still, there were two cars parked in front and three others around the side, so we figured there must have been life inside.
A closer look does reveal a weathered green awning (similar to those on other restaurants) covering the walkway up to the entry. Push yourself through there and you'll likely be greeted by the owner. ""Pub or restaurant?"" she asks. We chose pub and settled in for some drinks and an appetizer.
Mordecai's does not have the lake view of other nearby places, so they can't compete in that category. But, this would be a great choice on rainy or cold days when sitting dockside just wouldn't be fun.
The do not serve liquor: just beer and wine, but the beer selection is pretty good.
Sitting in the pub, you can order from the restaurant menu or the pub's own scaled-down version. We chose a house specialty: Crab Mordecai. It's crab and white fish mixed with just a bit of mayo and some chopped green pepper. They bake this in a small cast iron terrine and serve it with some lemon and crackers. It's very good.
Next time, I must try their quail entree which (I'm told) is grilled.
Pros: One of the few options to fast food in the area.
Cons: no mixed drinks
