I visited Montpelier in early March of 2006. They are currently working to restore the house to its original condition. While I did enjoy seeing how they are going about the restoration, and hearing how they discovered things that had been changed, I must say I would not pay the full $11 just to see that. They do have 2 rooms set up in a different building with some furniture and possessions to look at, which is nice, but honestly, the house was pretty stripped: exactly as you would expect for a house undergoing extensive restoration. From my visit, though, I could see that it's going to look pretty fantastic when it's all done, which is projected for 2008 or 2009. Furthermore, although I went in early March, if you want to see the restoration process, wait until later Spring or summer, because there is an absolutely beautiful looking walled garden. I wish that it had been late enough to be in bloom, because the garden seemed like it will be beautiful enough to warrant a visit alone. There are other attractions there as well, like a horse track, ane some nice wooded trails, but I didn't have time to explore them. The staff seemed nice, knowledgeable, and quite friendly.
