Charged TWICE my quoted price and took THREE times as long 2/22/2012

I had the most disappointing end result, and was charged twice what I was quoted and took three times as long... I had a gift card to Moda, and looking at their website and prices, booked a partial foil. I was very specific to book a partial foil at the current rate of $66 - the bare minimum foil. I had never gotten color there before and didn't know what to expect. I also asked what the timeline would be and the receptionist said about 60-75 minutes. Upon arrival I checked in and met my stylist. She asked me if we were doing a foil and a cut. I said ""No, Partial"". I wanted something fun and chunky and dramatic within the blonde/light brown family (my hair was all over bleached blonde) to help transition my color back to natural. We looked at photos and discussed ""chunky"" for my partial. Instead she ended up doing a full foil with two colors. She never once said that this is an additional cost, or that she was doing a full foil. The color was well blended, and ended up about 1/2 a shade darker than when I came in. Not at all what I wanted. THREE hours later we finally started drying my hair - but by then I was there almost three times as long as I had anticipated, so I requested to not have my hair styled. I go to check out in a rush, and find out my total was $117. I asked why the price had more than DOUBLED. The receptionist said she didnt know (to quote her ""Maybe it was because it took so long, or you're hair is really thick"" As a side note, my hair is fine and extremely thin), and could ask the stylist. I said I needed to leave, as I was already an hour late to my next appointment, so she offered to check with the stylist and call me back. I have yet to hear from them. I'm disappointed because The appointment took THREE times as long, was charged TWICE as much as I was quoted, and I didn't received a single service I came in for. I also was NEVER informed of any additional costs or made aware of changes. I wanted a fun summer look and ended up with a color I could have done myself for $7 dollars from a box. more

Shannon for Hair Services 12/6/2010

I've been seeing Shannon for hair services for about six months now. I don't have a lot of hair to work with, but love having layers to curl my hair with. I have had some haircuts in the past at other salons where my layers get too choppy and I end up feeling like I have no hair left. But Shannon knows how to give me the perfect amount of layers while keeping my hair as long as possible. She does a great job at coloring my hair as well. No matter how comfortable your economic state is, she is willing to work with any budget and can recommend different options for your color. She creates a beautiful color for me, that fades out beautifully too, so that my lighter roots aren't totally obvious if I can't afford another color for awhile. She's friendly and professional, and I'd recommend her to anyone. more

what a joke 5/30/2010

owner was sloppy and unprofessional, stylist were acting like they were in middle school, don't be fooled by the ""INSIDE"" reviews here! Pros: nothing Cons: everything more

More Moda please! 1/14/2010

I've had my hair styled at various price-point salons. From the $10 Hair Academy, $25 mall salon and the $50+ range salons. Each one has its perks (mainly the price) but none had the ""X"" factor like Moda Hair Cafe & Day Spa. When I looked in the mirror and realized my hair was growing out crooked from the last Salon butchering, I decided to put my ""shoe/coffee allowance"" towards a neighborhood Salon, that might be a bit pricey (starting at $36), but worth it in the end. I have met with Dani four times in the past year, and each visit is a new experience, from what style I feel like sporting for the next few months to ""Hey, I'm inspired by your sweater. Do you have a minute while I give you a mini-makeover?"" That made my day! I would recommend Moda to anyone, whether you are getting your nails done, need to relax with a facial or you are sick of your ""do-nothing"" hair style. I always leave Moda feeling confident, knowing I will always have a good hair day. Pros: Friendly, family oriented, neighborhood salon. Cons: Street parking - but is that really a con? more

WOW! Fern thank you for being so amazing. 9/20/2009

Fern (owner/ stylist) is one of the most experienced stylist I have ever met. I am quite picky when it comes to my hair. I have been on the hunt for a new stylist for about a year and a half. My search is now over. Pros: Great stylist, cute atmosphere, super easy parking. more

Extremely Pricey! 7/31/2009

After reading several reviews, I was very excited to try MODA salon and try a new summer haircut. Right when I got in to the reception area, I have to wait a few minutes to get checked in because the receptionist was chatting with a co-worker. She did not even notice me coming in that I have to wait and get her attention! I arrived a few minutes early, so I sat down and waited for my stylist. She came in on time and greeted me with a smile. She was very courteous, pleasing, and I appreciated the attention and detail that she gave me. For a $43 haircut, I was expecting something edgy, modern, and fresh BUT I would have gotten the same result elsewhere and pay half the price. I have no problem paying extra if it would produce a good result, yet the services in this salon was overpriced! I even chose a senior stylist but to no avail :( I am not coming back again and I do not recommend it to anyone. more

Try it - you'll love it! 2/23/2009

I love Moda! I've never had a 'bad hair' experience. The staff is very professional - I love Jacqueline - though probably a bit pricey on various items, you can't beat the service or the resulting product!! Pros: Great customer service Cons: A bit pricey, but worth it more

Great services - super friendly staff!!! 2/6/2009

I love this place - I regularly visit for eyebrow waxing, lash and brow tinting and facials. They seriously ""design"" your eyebrows! Keegan and Shay Lynn are excellent - super friendly and I get compliments on my skin all the time thanks to their expertise. Their product lines for make up and skin care are top of the line. Everyone in this place is friendly - from the minute you walk in to the minute you leave. I 100% recommend taking some spa time for yourself here! Pros: service, quality of treatments and staff Cons: none! more

Moda VIP 5/3/2008

I was talked into going to moda by a friend who gave me a gift cert that she had gotten from the salon called a VIP, to be honest i thought it was a little corny; however after visiting i can see why they call it that. I was welcomed warmly and had a great experience meeting the director of the salon and owners. I was taken care of like a true VIP and i love my new hair! Moda is not cheap but the staff is friendly, the hair is great and I?m trying out the spa next week! Thanks for the recommendation Julie! Pros: Services and staff Cons: Edmonds is a litle far but it was worth it more

Nice staffing & salon 3/4/2008

I have gone to this hair salon a few times already & truly do love the experience every time! The girls working there are so friendly & really listen to your needs & interests. The service is outstanding as they always offer a drink & to hang up your coat.If you don't know what you want done to your hair, they are sure to help figure out a look for you.The salon carries great products like bumble & bumble (I absolutely love).I can't say that I have been to the spa portion of the salon but will try it one day.I am always pleased with the outcome of my haircut & style. The price is $39 but also includes a shampooing & conditioner.I can't wait to go back for a fresh new summer time look! Pros: friendly staff, well experienced hairdressers ,great atmosphere more

Extremely nice and worth the price!! 2/12/2008

The stylists and receptionists at Moda were absolutely without a doubt wonderful. Although they are a higher end salon, their attention to detail and the customer's needs are phenomonal. I was looking for something to brighten my day in downtown Edmonds on one of my days off. I parked my car and just walked into the Moda Hair Cafe & Day Spa to just grab a brochure to see what services they provided (as well as the costs for them). The receptionists were extremely helpful with suggestions and advice and ended up scheduling me for an appointment for a haircut and color. Since I had to wait, they had one of their newer trainees give me a complimentary manicure and hand massage (ahhh, how nice that was!). They gave me a first time discount coupon for being willing to just walk in and make an appointment. The ladies that worked with me (Katie for color and Robin for the cut and awesome styling) along with a few other stylists they asked for input on how to give me a great style. I have unruly coarse and curly hair, and Robin helped show me how to give it a smoother look. She was the first stylist to flat iron my hair and make it look sleek and oh so different. My husband and kids loved it! Along with having a great time and finding out how to have a better look, it seemed that all the other customers were having a good time too. I highly recommend their salon/spa for anyone wanting to treat themselves to taking care of themselves or just plain wanting a new look. more

Best Salon EVER! 3/9/2007

Moda is the best hair salon I have ever been to, and I spent quite awhile looking for a new salon when my old stylist quit the business 8 years ago. The staff and stylists are all very friendly, although Katie is my personal favorite. They have some of the best customer service that I've ever experienced in the service industry. They really make you feel like a million dollars as well as making you look that way. I would recommend this salon to ANYONE looking for an awesome hairstyle provided by a knowledgable, and considerate stylist who is up-to-date on trends. I have seen customers who look like they're in highschool righ on up to older grandmother aged women leave this salon looking beautiful, and stylish. It's pricey but worth the money as you'll always look your best when you leave (and afterwards as well, they are great at teaching you how to style your own hair!) and they don't pressure you into buying their products, they have advised me on less expensive products which will give me similar results many times, and they've never lead me astray. If you need a salon or a new style you really should give Moda a try, I recommend it to everyone I know. Pros: Friendly, knowledgable staff Cons: pricey more

MODA ...a mother and daughter's vision 2/22/2007

For over 40 years of service to the SEATTLE area FERN TULL has been influenciual mentor and the instrument that inspired Manuel of Gary and Manuel Salon, Rory and Keith of Coupe Rokei, and Mark Farmer of Marco on Two.""MODA is a downtown (Edmonds) salon without a downtown attitude"". If it were anything less, it would not be acceptable! MODA stylists are chosen and are expected to put the customer first.MODA has to be customer driven. Salon Today magazine has ranked MODA in the TOP 200 SALON IN AMERICA for the last SEVEN YEARS! That status only comes when a business owner and stylists do thier jobs! Customer Service is not rocket science.Delivering and providing clients with value is MODA's mission. MODA has and will always provide the highest quality of haircare, MODA will personalize and hand make each hair color so that you look like it was ""intended"". MODA has experienced an incredible amount of growth, with that comes new challenges. A challenge to all that have experienced MODA and those who say they have. ""Get in there! MODA has been MODAFIED and get a fresh taste of what they have always been and strive to be. Those on the MODA team have been reinspired by FERN and JAMI'S dedication to education (and sometimes a swift boot) on how they want thier clients cared for. MODA stylists are like no others, they push themselves technically and non techinically, which means you'll experience a FERN and JAMI's way of doing hair! MODA has made a difference in how you view salons......its not just the decor it is who makes up that team and the joy they give, a caring experience should be contagious, a high quality service is not cheap (there are salons in the strip malls for that!). Your high quality personalized style is pricelss as long you continue to ""feel"" the value. MODA's haircuts are $35 to $54 : 4 centuries of knowledge and experiences wrapped up into your stylists finger tips.... USE it, WEAR it and LOVE it! That's what MODA was made for.......YOU! more

wont go back 6/12/2006

i went here once and i will never go back. the stylists are mean and catty. they were extremely rude to my friend and made her feel really bad, and they did a horrible job processing my hair. not only that but everything in the salon is triple the price of anywhere else, shampoo and everything. more

a great salon! 5/31/2006

Moda is wonderful. I highly recommed people going there. The price is high BUT IT's worth it! Pros: great trends, clean, warm/cozy Cons: high price more

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE 5/29/2006

This salon has terrible customer service, I advise anyone thinking of going here to go somewhere else. not only are they overpriced but the management and staff are rude and have no respect for their customers. Cons: bad customer service, expensive, rude more

the spa department 6/11/2004

I've been fighting with my skin for years and after buying a skin savor package at moda my skin is finally where i've always wanted it to be. I've seen both of the esthticians that work at moda(sharlean and andrea) and they combine relaxation with fixing my skin which is something I've never been able to find. What they taught me was well worth the dollar amount. Pros: convienent, comfortable, salon also more

YES!YES!YES! 8/5/2002

Best stylist ever! Jessica rocks. She listens, asks the right questions, and creatively deals with the mess I bring her! Pros: Worth every penny! Cons: A bit pricey more
