POOR LARGE GROUP TREATMENT 12/11/2009

My group and I had a reservation for our holiday luncheon. Checked out space in advance, called to make request then called again to confirm. When we arrived it was a totally different story. Nasty acting server was communicating messages between manager and I instead of him talking with us. She was annoyed because we did not want to sit with half the group's backs to each other in front of the door on a 20 degree day. My supevisors arrived and just began rearranging the furniture with the folks who bus the tables. I felt really bad because there are other restaurants we could have given our business to...AND they did not see anyting wrong with the way that they treated us. JERKS...going to mention to anyone working at Tweed not to patronize Mocca. Pros: The food was satisfactory-good. Cons: Reservation made for large group handled poorly, rudeness... more

what happened 12/4/2009

mocca used to be fun, and have great energy... what happened? Pros: used to be great Cons: no atmosphere more

It would be great if it was clean! 3/12/2009

Mocca has a lot going for itself. The location is great! The space is really cool, the lighting at night is quite funky. The pitta bread, tahini and falafel are really good! Price are also good the drinks are also very good value...a place I enjoyed to go but always had the same problem. IT IS DIRTY IN THERE!!! The seats are appalling, I mean even with the red color it needs cleaning they are dirty spots and marks everywhere...I cannot believe that they do not feel bad to serve food in such a dirty place. There is dust everywhere, it does not cost much to get the staff to spend some time steaming the seats and recover them. So last time we just couldn't ignore it anymore and wonder how the kitchen could be if the restaurant is like that. i am actually surprise they did not get caught by health regulation before. more

Friendly Service in NYC? Pleasantly Confused 12/9/2008

First time to the big city, and I was wary of ""rude new yorkers""- everyone there from the host to the bus boy was SO friendly! I even felt comfortable enough to pull out my map. Just planning on stopping for coffee and directions, but ended up grabbing some lunch. whatever you do, get the salad! i forget the name but it had chicken and eggplant, and a bunch of stuff, for like 10 bucks, in lower manhattan?!? check it out, but cafeful, they make some stronggggg cocktails...which i guess is a good thing :) Pros: the staff rocks Cons: take the subway, no parking more

Go For Drink.. 12/9/2008

Mocca is not bad. It's not overpriced. But it's also not amazing and not really memorable. more

hang on to them hats and glasses. 11/19/2008

I love this place. I frequent a lot of tribeca eateries, and this is one of my faves...great food, great atmosphere, great staff. Thats right, this place is a triple threat!! Not to mention they have an awesome happy hour. For as much as i eat, and eat out, this place was a very rewarding discovery! more

Great Happy Hour 11/19/2008

I always though this was just a coffee bar until I saw a 2 for 1 Happy Hour sign in their window. Not only do they have great cocktails (and two for the price of one!) but they also have great food! Definitely coming back for dinner soon more

We always enjoy Mocca Lounge 11/18/2008

I finally had to write a review to counter the negative I see here. We come to Mocca for the past 2 years of and on, mostly at night, with a group of co-worker or just with friends. Every place has its ups and downs but I always enjoy Mocca. The staff always makes us feel welcome. We specially love the place when the night manager (forgot his name but he is there for a long time) is in. He always chooses great movies and the music is very eclectic. They used to have House music and Djs but I guess money dictates but it does not mean its better or worse. Pros: Great Music, Happy Hour, Cocktails Cons: Sometimes to full to accompany larger groups more

Never Again.... Avoid at all cost 11/2/2008

I decided to take a friend out to dinner and after searching I thought this place would be cool. When we arrived there was no wait... but the restaurant is so tiny (looks so much bigger in their pictures). I ordered from the prie fix menu which seemed like a good deal. Or so I thought... the tuna i ordered was so dry and tasteless I couldn't even finish it. We wait for almost an hour to get our food and it was disgusting. The waiter felt bad about us waiting for so long and gave us a free drink and a free drink coupon for later use. That is the only reason I am giving this place 2 stars. I never did go back and I never will. Save your time and money and go somewhere else. Pros: None Cons: Tasteless food more

Friday night was nothing special 10/18/2008

After seeing that this place had a 5-star rating and ""good"" music, I was quite curious to visit. Well, I met a friend there two Friday nights ago after work between the hours of 8-11pm and nothing special was going on. It seemed like an average place to have drinks and appetizers. I felt that the 4 piece chicken pastries served with a mint dipping sauce we ate were not worth the $12 we spent on them. We did take advantage of the happy hour that ended promptly at 7pm. I was disappointed in the music because I'd read that this place had a nice house music/ecclectic vibe. Not true. Something quite lame and mainstream was playing. But I give this place props for playing ""The Wiz"" (the black Wizard of Oz from the 70s starring Diana Ross and Michael Jackson) on its two large mid size screen TVs. more

mediocre at best 10/3/2008

On a saturday night there were very few people there. We ordered apps and dinner, which they brought out at the same time (they put our ""extra"" food on the table next to us!). I asked that they keep our dinner in the kitchen until we were done w/ apps. Food was mediocre at best. Ravioli tasted like it had been frozen. Wait staff seemed unexperienced. Maybe this place is much better for lunch???? not recommended. more

Good place 9/15/2008

Good place. Alot of people come there. I am Vietnamese, i came there one time, my freind introduced me and i am very interested about that one. I plan to come back there one time in near furture. more

Clean up your bathroom & improve your thai chicken salad 8/25/2008

I heard raves about this place, so was looking forward to a great salad. It was OK at best. I think the kitchen filled a bowl with marinated chicken and just dropped some lettuce on top, because it took a sec for me to figure out that I had actually received the *chicken* salad I ordered. When it came time to use the restroom, I was unpleasantly surprised. The trash bin was filled to overflowing and there were tons of paper towels on top of the trash can and falling onto the floor. When was the last time the staff looked in?? Not appetizing at all. I'm going to have to pass on visiting this place in the future. Cons: Thrown together food, unkempt bathroom more

nice afterwork place to unwind 7/6/2008

I been to Mocca Lounge for a few times and loved it! For starters, they play some cool house music (which I love!!!!), very friendly staff, and great food. I enjoyed going there with co-workers, friends, and even for a date. It is truly a nice afterwork experience and nice place to unwind from the busy day. Pros: excellent all the way more

I am addicted to this place 5/14/2008

Since my law practice is a couple of blocks away, I eat there almost every day (and night...). The food is always fresh and well prepared. The young (and talented) chef they have hangs out in the dining area and is always so pleasant and all smiles. The staff is also generally very friendly and knowledgeable. Pros: Great Food, Nice Ambiance, good service Cons: wish they had one uptown more

Great Appetizers 3/26/2008

I went to Mocca with a friend randomly one night. I heard the coffee during the day was great, but was weary on eating dinner there. We got three appetizers and loved them all, especially the Veggie Quesadillas. The vibe is great and they had a good selection of wine. Very chill spot, great eats! Pros: Great food, chill spot more

Pretty good 3/5/2008

Appetizers: the tilapia was excellent and so was the falafel. i'm not usually a fish eater but the fish was fantastic. i recommend both Pros: excellent service Cons: dim lighting more

Don't miss their new dinner menu!!! 2/11/2008

It seems that Mocca Lounge has a new dinner menu and oh boy what a great addition to the old already good menu. They now have pre-fix options where you get for $ 30 an appetizer, a main course and 2 glasses of wine all of your choice. The food is simply delicious and the prices are so right! We enjoyed the pumpkin crusted tilapia with couscous wow! and the surf and turf tapas both a filling course though appetizers. For main we had mango shrimp with coconut rice and the Angus steak with smashed potato. We were in heaven. Besides the food they played a great selections of 80's music and showed ""Jackie Brown"" a movie I had not seen in ages on the big screen TV's. The service on Friday 2/8/2008 was superb, our waiter I believe Thomas was his name was attentive, polite but not bothering at all and in the end we even got free cookies. One of the best evenings we had in a restaurant/lounge in a long time. Pros: Ambience, Music, Food, Service Cons: No found more
