Excellent Service!! 8/10/2010

The rooms are very nice and well appointed, the lodge is beautiful and inviting, and the two restaurants we visited offered very good food and excellent service. Everything was as advertised, and we especially enjoyed the wide range of things to do right on site more

Super friendly staff 8/6/2010

We stayed over the 4th of July weekend primarily due to an email special that was sent to us. Our stay, once again was delightful with zero issues. Our room was a queen lakeview on an inside corner of the main lodge. The room was awesome, with 3 windows overlooking the lake, the views were spectaciular. The weekend was hot with no a/c, but again fans were provided, and many of the lodging options to not have a/c. The breakfast and BBQ dinner buffet was done perfectly. There was a great selection of fresh and great tasting food. You cant beat the quietness at night, we have rarely heard a barking dog. We travel with our 120 labrador retriever and he is welcomed at the resort and is usually the star of the show. The plumbing was great...tub drained awesome, lots and lots of super hot water with no temperature variance. A few pointers for having an enjoyable stay on the island, where ever it may be....bring an extension cord or two. Bring a roll of duct tape, you can use it to hold up windows in which the springs are a little worn, you can patch a hole in the screen if need be, you can tape transfer tags to your luggage...the list goes on and on. A container of Clorox wet wipes is essential, we bring those to nearly every hotel we stay at. The staff was super friendly and have progressed a lot in their training since our previous stay over Memorial Day. Keep in mind, the staff and most of the managers have nearly 100% turnover from year to year. The festivities for the 4th of July were planned very well, the beer tasting near the front lawn was awesome. Again, keep in mind that this resort operates at most 5 months of the year, and it is really in a remote part of the U.S.; and on an island in which does not allow motor vehicles. We hate to rush summer, but are looking forward to a whole week vacation at Mission Point for Labor Day. more

Coming again! 8/6/2010

I got a great online deal ($89/nite) for MPR, but after reading some other TripAdvisor reviews, was really hesitant and not sure if we were going to be happy there. But, as they say, you don't know until you try it! MPR is not located on the main street, but about a 5-7 min. walk past beautiful homes -- not a hard walk at all -- and you are away from the bars downtown which are open quite late. The resort has an amazing view onto the water, lots of different activities to try and is a great island getaway. Our room was small, but considering you only sleep there, we didn't really care. It is a room at a historic inn on a historic island .. if you want something else, then don't visit Mackinac Island. Yes, there is wear on the buildings ... but -- again -- it's on an island, is over 100+ yrs. old and takes a lot of wear from the elements. However, everything inside we saw was very clean. The rooms, hallways and common areas were clean; the lobby was dark -- but it's all handcarved logs/beams -- it's not going to be light & airy. The restaurants were not priced too high -- we got the breakfast buffet at the Round House for $9.95/adults and our daughter was free, except for a $1.50 service fee -- cheaper than we would pay at home. We played mini-golf on the exec. course, we walked around the property, we sat on the patio bar & roasted s'mores at our table (fun!) and listened to a funny guitarist. The atmosphere is relaxing; nobody is rushed and every employee we encountered could not have been more helpful or friendly. We have NO complaints. We already made the decision that we would stay there again on our next visit to the Island. more

Amamzing 7/30/2010

The moment we stepped off the ferry, our luggage was brought directly to the hotel, while we explored the island. Upon checking in, our luggage was brought to our magnificent room, which featured a generous sitting area, a 4-poster bed, fireplace, a large bathroom with jacuzzi tub, and a patio with lounge chairs. The grounds offered many dining options, a putting course, and a pool! Upon checking out, our luggage was picked up and sent to our ferry, where it was waiting for us at our destination. A beautiful hotel and great island location- not smack dab in the middle of the town. more
