Tiffany has been cutting and styling my hair for years, and I continue to follow her because she is simply the best at what she does! I've worn my hair short and long, and she has never failed to give me cuts that are flattering and current. I've gone to many stylists in Austin, and she is by far the very best. On top of that, she's pleasant, professional and pays attention to what the client needs. A real pleasure to visit! Plus, the friends I've recommended have been equally satisfied. I have been seeing Kenny for about 5 years and he is fantastic - he is incredibly talented and knows what will and won't work and is honest enough to tell you. We have gone form long and wavy to short pixie back to medium length wavy bob with subtle highlights and I have walked out of Mint feeling like a million bucks every time. I really wanted to like Mint because it's in my neighborhood and looks cool. The people I met there also seem very nice. However, I went in the first time for color and said I wanted DARKER hair. Somehow, this resulted in highlights. The stylist fixed it and it looked great, but when I went to get the same darker low-lights again a few months later, I got highlights, AGAIN. They looked ok, but I just didn't know what to say when she said ""we should go darker next time"" at the completion of my appointment. I didn't want to get my hair processed twice again, so whatever. I told the same stylist I was growing out my long bangs and short layers around my face. I just wanted a trim of the very nice haircut she gave me before respecting his fact. She proceeds to cut 1/3 of my hair the same length as the awkward bangs. One more chance before taking business elsewhere, I grow out my hair for months and go for her to clean up and even out the weird layers. She cuts the key ones around my face short again, when I stated that I was still growing them out and to definitely NOT cut anything shorter than my face. My whole life I have just found good stylists and trusted them. They are the ones with the training and should be able to guide people to styles that work while heeding their preferences. I thought I found this at Mint, but any conversation along those lines just seemed to confuse the situation. You shouldn't have to micromanage every snip at a nice salon. I recently moved to Austin to attend UT. I always thought the salon was so cute when I saw it on my way to school. I decided to try it and Tiffany colored and cut my hair. She is great- she listened to me and I love my hair. I did a Kerastase treatment while I was there and my hair is so soft now! Pros: so relaxing more

I went to colorist Tiffany Sowersby and got highlights. When I got home, I noticed that she missed coloring a lot of my roots in the back. I e-mailed her right away and asked if she could go over these spots. She said that she has a strict ""no re-do"" policy. I was not asking her to re-do the highlights or the color of the highlights, rather correct her mistakes so that I do not have to try and hide the black roots or pay someone else more money to correct it. I tipped well and she was not understanding. I believe that the customer should always be happy when you are starting off as a new colorist in a salon. Hairstylist, and I don't want to tattle on which one, does NOT listen to client. Even after showing multiple pictures. This has happened twice. Once before those times got a great haircut by said hairstylist. But I would just be careful. more

Mint Salon has a great atmosphere along with a friendly welcoming staff. Deralyn gave me the best haircut I've ever had since having short hair! She understood what I wanted without me having to bring in a picture. She really has the experience of a great stylist. This is a stylist that I would highly recommend and have already when people give me compliments on my hair style. more

Chloe, a hairstylist who works here, has been cutting my hair since the first haircut I ever had. I've never gone to any other salon, but I have gotten a few substitute stylists from Mint when she's been away. None of them have ever been grumpy or aggressive about their opinions, but have seemed to read my mind to create exactly what I wanted, even when I wasn't sure what I wanted. To anyone who thinks they might feel out of place here, I can tell you immediately that you won't. It doesn't matter what you wear (that doesn't affect what hairstyle you'll get anyway) because it's casual there. The receptionist will always offer you a [complimentary] drink to sip and there are hairstyle magazines to sift through for those who are undecided. The stylists generally work quite well off pictures, so if you want the same haircut as your friend, you can bring a picture of him/her (but I wouldn't recommend that). I see Kenny for my highlights and haircut and he does a wonderful job. The salon is modern and clean and the front desk is always friendly. I have curly hair and have had trouble in the past finding a stylist. Kenny really understands curly hair and always listens to my ideas. He is the first stylist who has helped me grow my hair out and he never cuts off more than I want to. The salon is located centrally in Hyde Park and has plenty of parking. I saw McKerry for a cut and color. This stylist has a horrible attitude! I was kept waiting for about 20 minutes before my appointment, but I didn't really mind. What I did mind, however, was how I was treated once I sat down. The few comments she made to me were short and snide. Though I was a new client, she spent no more than 30 seconds consulting with me on what I'd like done with my hair and, throughout the two hours that she spent on it, nothing was ever said about what she was actually doing to it. It was one of the most uncomfortable experiences that I have ever had in my life (and I am a really easy-going person). I expected much, much more from a stylist who charges over $200 for a cut and color. I certainly will not be going back! Pros: Nice salon Cons: Bad Attitude more

It took me 10 years to find the perfect salon. I FOUND IT! Kenny has transformed my bleached blonde, damaged hair, to a beautful natural, healthy look. My hair was overprocessed, damaged and the style was NOT flattering. My hair now looks amazing! I have received more compliments in the past 2 years. Kenny is fun, friendly and I love the brutal honesty. :) The salon is clean, the staff is great!! Melissa is wonderful -- Always smiling and so helpful! Kuddo's to this great salon! It is a little pricey for my budget, but you definitely get what you pay for. Well worth the money! Suzanne has been cutting my hair for several months and does a great job. She recommended that I consider color and highlights. (My formerly auburn brown hair has gotten a bit dull and grey.) I was apprehensive since I do not like chemicals on my hair and since I had never had it done before. She listened to my concerns an made some suggestions. Ultimately, I decided to give it a try, and I am delighted. My friends and family did not quite know what was different, but thought that I looked younger and better. She did a terrific job;very subtle with nice ""sun kissed"" highlights. I'm definitely going back! more

I tried this salon because it was near my old apartment, and I'm still not sure how I feel about it =/ All trims are charged as cuts, so I can never afford to get my hair trimmed when I get it colored. Also, the first guy I went to there (the receptionist picked him for me) didn't pay attention to what he was doing and when I got home, I found pieces of hair around my face that hadn't been colored at all! He charged me very reasonably however, so I didn't bother to gripe. So again, it was close to where I lived, so I tried a different stylist and she did a very good job, but it took over three hours just to do my roots and the pricing was insane (I remember it was roughly over $200. To do my roots.) The stylists were friendly when I went and seemed to do a good job of listening and discussing what I wanted, but I'm not sure I'd go back.
