Don't go 4/20/2012

This was one of the worst Japanese food I have ever ate. We got there at 8pm, but was never told that they were not preparing food. There were still people coming in, but the whole kitchen staff was standing there, all the food was cold and some were even empty and not being replenished. When I asked, they said new foods are preparing, but never came. Some even started cleaning? the waiter told us that the grill is still open for another few minutes, so we order some thing. The cook for the section is already cleaning the section while hot food is preparing??? and one patron ordered salmon which he had to go back to get it. But the worse part was, he was cleaning before and holding the salmon on the same gloves that he used for cleaning? That is a health code vilolation! And the price of $28.95 per person is NOT worth it. I have to give one star because I have to write this review. One star is even too much for this place. more

Worse Japanese Buffet 8/15/2011

The buffet foods that were horrible is the sushi, the salads, and the meats that were suppose to be hot were only warm. By the time you got back to your table the warm foods were cold. I felt ill afterwards from the buffet. The only good food the buffet had was the Green tea ice cream and the desserts. I'm never going back! Think twice about eating at Minado Japanese Buffet. more

Great 7/29/2010

Not somewhere I go often, but when I do its a treat; this place is phenomenal. Great food for all tastes and as much you want of it. Pros: Great food, and all you can eat Cons: lil pricy but food is worth it more

Great food and environment! 5/14/2010

Well, I recently had the honor of trying out Minado. I heard some mixed reviews ranging from great sushi and foods to terrible sushi and service. About two weeks ago, my friends and I came in to eat dinner on a Friday night. I was on the fence about going but realized that for the price and the selection, you can't go wrong. Our server, Henry (same guy in the video!) took care of us. He greeted up promptly and was very friendly. Because it was out first time, he explained to us how it worked as far as getting food, drinks, finished plates, etc. I was very pleased and I didn't even get to eat yet! Oh man, this was the best part. Walking around and looking at all their selections was jaw dropping. I didn't know what to get first so I just took one of everything. Out of everything that I've tried, only a few that I didn't finish but that was because I'm not a squid kind of person. Every once in a while, our server would check up on us and see how everything was; that's expected but what I didn't expect was the awesome conversation we had. We started talking about some random thing, but I loved it! It didn't seem fake or anything. We were having a genuine conversation! I did notice the other workers occasionally talking to one another but it didn't bother me at all. I asked our server about his co-workers and he was telling me how everyone is real close with one another. i was surprised! At my job, we all despise one another! It sort of made me wish my co-workers were real ""tight"" with one another. At the end of the meal, I asked for our bill and our server dropped it off very promptly. I paid and as I got up to go with my friends, our server thanked us for being so polite and wished for us to come back again. Hearing that just made me want to come back the very next day! If it wasn't for my finals, I probably would have. I've been to a few buffets but nothing quit compares to Minado. Sure there are quit a few buffets out there that offer sushi and asian cuisine, but you usually get what you pay for. I've been to a buffet in South Philly where when they bring out crab legs...it's gone almost immediately. However, at Minado, there seems to be an endless supply. Although it's not exactly priced like Old Country Buffet, it's do-able. Is it the GREATEST sushi out there? No. But for a sushi buffet, it's pretty darn good. I would definitely recommend this place too all my friends and family and anyone else looking for some good ole sushi suggestions! Pros: Sushi and salad selection. Cons: Can't do desserts for take-out. more

the worst sushi experience ever 5/11/2010

i've been to minado about 5-6 times and every time i go, i can definitely see the quality of food getting worse and worse. last time i went was about a month ago and they were an utter disappointment to me and my family. it was the worst sushi i've had as far as i can recall. Pros: the location Cons: everything else more

Food Getting Worse and Less 12/27/2009

Long time ago Minado was a good restaurant , but not now. Food don't have much choose as they do in before, menu are repeating (like 4 fish, 2 chicken, every food you will see at least 2) . Pros: green tea ice cream Cons: food and price more

Great place!! 4/27/2009

My brother took us here, I said, Sushi and buffet are not a good combination.....WELL, he proved me wrong. The food was AWESOME, the sushi delicious and all you wanted.......and hibachi.......it was worth it!! Pros: Best Sushi by far.... Cons: Worth every penny more

Worts Service Ever!!!! 4/3/2009

When my wife picked up some sushi, one of chef cursed at my wife because he had to make more. My wife was stunned and upset, so we asked for the general manager. He did not come first, but he talked to sushi bar chief and then came to us. The general manager told us that the chef was a good worker, but he complained time to time, sounding like the chef have been in this kind of troubles with the customer. We asked for the apology from chef. The general manager refused to do so. The general manager said that he would take the customer's side, but in reality, he did not want to lose his workers over the customer. I have never seen the manager like him before. He did not care about the customers, but cares only about keeping his workers happy. We started questioning his credentials as the general manager. We found out later that he was the son of the owner. Food is great at Minado, but the service is awful. Don't try to resolve the issues with the general manager. He is really incompetent. Pros: food Cons: Service more

awesome buffet 3/27/2009

I went for dinner once or twice... I rather just stick with lunch. I don't feel like paying more for crepes and ice cream. And maybe some other seafood stuff. I'm more into the sushi. There is a few more sushi selection offer in dinner..and a sashami area but I'm happy with the lunch option.\r \r not sure why citysearch have two minado entry listed...\r Pros: Choices Cons: expensive for dinner more

This place is awesome 2/12/2009

Minado is one of my favorite restaurants ever. It would be my favorite except that it seems like the price goes up every time I visit! But still, for sushi, it is a great price. Go during lunch time during the week (it is cheapest then)! The sushi selection is awesome. They also have other Asian cuisine available as well. Pros: Sushi! more

This family-owned restaurant with a few locations in multiple states has the best Japanese seafood buffet anywhere. 4/18/2007

I've spent time in cities over the world, including several in Japan, and this is the best Japanese seafood buffet I've ever seen, not only in quantity but in quality, variety, and creativity. I counted at least a dozen dishes here that I've never seen elsewhere. The Restaurant's CitySearch description of its food and look is accurate if not too modest. What it doesn't contain is the low-key, inviting decor (like a good-quality restaurant in Japan), quiet atmosphere (the only buffet I've ever been in that's interior-designed so it's not noisy), scrupulous cleanliness, and aware and friendly service. Outstanding dishes: hot-- udon soup (especially savory), barbecued spareribs (meaty, moist & tangy), spicy warm salmon rolls, jumbo stuffed shrimp, baby eggplant akamiso (tender and juicy) and the absolute prize-winner, shrimp with oyster sauce (the best shrimp I've ever had in my life), plus always plenty of BIG steamed king crab legs, unlike other buffets that serve them small and stingily. Sushi: the best, biggest and most delicious assortment anywhere, including traditional favorites (e.g. sea urchin roe, $5-$10 per piece at other places) and custom inventions. Salads: lots, favorites being hiyiki (dark seaweed, shiitake mushrooms and carrots) and anishi-wakini (green seaweed), both light and delicious. Plus they'll custom-cook you a dessert crepe with fruit! Worth making a one-hour trip each way! more

High Quality Buffet 4/5/2007

When I first heard about Minado, I was skeptical. Sushi is best when very fresh, and buffets usually don't have high quality and fresh ingredients. This place was great. All the sushi was surprisingly fresh. Some selections are better than others in terms of sushi, and I found the rolls were somewhat lacking as was the sashimi. However, the nigiri was excellent. I was surprised to find exotic selections (such as baby fried crab, conch, baby squid) in the nigiri. The hot food is great too, be sure to try the custom made udon. However, the cold salads, although creative, were not particularly good. Minado is a bit pricy, but for the quality of the food it's worth it, especially for a buffet. My sushi eating would have cost much more than the $25 Minado charges at a restaurant. Pros: Selection, Most of the Sushi, Hot Food, Service Cons: Salads more

Recommended if you can definitely eat 1/9/2007

The restaurant is a good place for a lot of friends for a get together or something. It isn't quite a romantic place and neither is it romantic to stuff your face with fish. The cost is fair because it is a buffet and usually sushi and sashimi cost a lot. I went on a Monday night so it wasn't packed so some of the food have been sitting out there for quite a while. Pros: Convenient parking and is a buffet more

If you have a BIG appetite for sushi this is your place 11/5/2006

Have been here several times and to other Minado locations, seems bigger then the ones in NY and NJ. Huge selection of rolls, 'salads' and cooked food. To save a few $$ go during lunch when the selection is just slightly less then then the dinner menu.\r \r Grab the sashimi as quick as possible, it goes quick. And you have to ask for butter for the king crab legs. Pros: Great for large groups and parties more
