We take our craft cocktails seriously so I don't mind a bartender surprising me with something. But if you don't have a menu I would expect to be surprised with something besides ...

Secret address 10/21/2006

The trick to this place is there's a secret address and phone number you have to get in order to be admitted. The secret isn't so secret -- just do a quick web search and you'll find it. But once you're there, the wait is worth it. Excellent drinks, and no bartender attitude. more

Cocktail's heaven! 8/1/2006

Very interesting coctails! Express your favorite drink and fruit taste to the barwoman and you'll definately get a coctail that suits you! The bar would be more interesting if the inside décor was more formal and fresh-looking so that it would make a much greater constrast with the decadence outside. Pros: interesting cocktails Cons: quite expensive for this kind of bar more

Amazing Bartender! 5/4/2006

att created the best drinks ever! They tasted wonderful, and you could see/taste his pride in the work he was doing. This isnt the place for unappreciative drinkers - IE do not order a rum & coke! They should show anyone who does the door. Ditto for people who would pass up sipping on a little slice of heaven because of cost concern - $15 per. My best advice is just to leave yourself in Matt's hands and let him make for you whatever he wants. Hes very fond of Concord grape or key lime concoctions- I love his excitement over seasonal fruit! No blenders, no flavored vodkas, just fresh fruit, spices and top shelf liquors- most imported. My boyfriend and I will go every time we are in NYC as long as they are there. And no, I'm not giving out the number- only to blood relatives I adore. Pros: great service, fantastic drinks, very private more

Good Drinks, Space Not Worth the Hype 4/25/2006

Called on a rainy Sat. night and got right in, but I must say, once inside I was disappointed. Interior reminds me of a dingy pub in any small town USA. Bar is not particularly romantic except that there's a lot of couples there. Majority of the seating is booths and the space looks like it hasn't been renovated since the 1970s. Waitress was really sweet and brought us great drinks from the bar, but for me, drinks don't make a place - it's the ambiance and interior aesthetic. And in the latter two categories, this place rates about a C+. With so many other great bar stops in the neighborhood, I'm in no rush to return. Pros: Great Drinks Cons: 24 hrs. adv policy, Boring Interior more

We'd fly 2000 miles for the Mojito! 10/25/2005

My girlfriend and I spend the summer in NYC for work and we were lucky enough to get ahold of the number and called in. Much to my surprise, there was no hoops to jump through- all they wanted was a name, number in the party and that we show up when we said we would. Sure enough- best bartending ever experienced. Go often enough and even the gracious bartenders will remember your name and drink; perhaps serve up something special. MnH is all I need to say to convince my sweetie to go back to Manhattan for the weekend! more

The Land of Milk & Honey 2/15/2005

The best cocktails I've had. The bartenders' recommendations are well worth it. They know their stuff! Pros: Crowd Control, Drinks, Atmosphere more

NYC's best kept secret 12/9/2004

Milk & Honey is by far one of the most intimate and cool bars that I have ever been to. You will not be disappointed. The drinks are inventive and fresh, the bartenders are interesting and debonair. This place is amazing. Pros: quiet, great music, romantic more

Better than Expected 10/30/2004

I came in here to see what was so special about this place. I read other people's reviews and it took me a lot of web searching to find the number to this place, and after we going there with my friends, yesterday, I was very pleased by the place. The drinks are not that expensive they are affordable and they get you going all night. If you find the number make sure that you go and drag a few people with you, it was worth it. :) Pros: 007ish, Sex and the Cityish, Excellent Drinks Cons: , A bit Small, No dance floor more

Pretty good bar, very bad value 8/22/2004

The drinks here are $20. I don't know why none of the other reviews mention that. You get a great drink for the price, but truthfully, not that great. A friend ordered the waiter's recommendation to the letter--the special fresh cherries, with honey, etc.--and received a drink so bland (hardly even a hint of cherry) that he sent it back. The drinks typically are better, and the service is superbly attentive, but they still don't add up to the bar's reputation. You may still want to come here for a relaxed, private evening with a small group of friends, especially if you don't mind spending the money (cash only, so bring plenty), but otherwise the only real draw is the exclusivity. Pros: special drinks, intimate, very exclusive Cons: , un-social, very exclusive more

David 6/17/2004

Overall an almost perfect bar experience. This place is not where you go to rage. Rather, it feels like the bar equivalent of a meal at a small farm or dessert at Chickalicious. Every aspect of the bar -- lighting, music, impeccable service, beautiful bar, fresh ingredients, glassware, cloth napkins and strawberries/honey/cream -- contributes to an experience allowing you to pause, breathe, and focus on the people you're with. A wonderful time and well worth the planning needed to spend time there. more

perfect. simple. 5/9/2004

Oddly enough, the most amazing thing about M&H seems a bit overlooked in these reviews. The optimality of the ENTIRE experience; the meticulous care put into every singledrink; the purity of ingredients; the unequaled skill of the bartenders. They force you to focus on the things at hand your drinks, your friends, the feeling of being enveloped by the goodness of life, where you dont have to be anyone but yourself. This is the reason for their discretion rather than the air of exclusivity implied by some of the other reviewers. The rule about giving out the phone number is akin to having a party when your parents were out; keep it small and intimate and you, for the most part, maintain control otherwise things get broken. The place is great. If you happen to have a friend who has the number ask them to take you. Pros: Absolutely intimate, Purity of ingredients, Overall perfection more

The best. 3/22/2004

Milk & Honey will provide you with the best drinks in New York City. I have been a devotee since it opened and am constantly impressed by the service, excellent drinks and insular atmosphere. The only drawback is that it has gotten progressively harder to book a table as the word has spread. Pros: Great drinks, excellent service more

Milk & Honey - #1 date spot 12/29/2003

This small speakeasy, hidden somewhere in the lower eastside is a perfect spot for a date or quiet evening with a small group. The concept of the bar is so unique with an unlisted number and limited seating to allow for limited seating throughout the night. Sitting in one of the booths or at the bar is a pleasant experience. At the booths, a waiter offers suggestions of tasteful drinks, while at the bar enjoy watching Sasha or one of the others put together fresh and premium ingredients and concoct the best drinks in Manhattan. Milk & Honey is the antithesis of prententious - - It is more of a place to just relax and enjoy the company of friends or someone special. Spend a few hours or the entire night. The staff are all very friendly and accommodating as long as the patrons abide by the rules ;-) Pros: Quiet, Prime date spot, Amazing drinks more

Best secret in NY 11/30/2003

I got the unlisted number to this bar and decided to check it out on a Thursday night, the good things I have heard are definitely true, I was not disappointed!! Although it is small the place is great and the drinks are amazing!! The bartender and host were very friendly and the overall vibe was very relaxing. I will definitely go back! I can see why the number is such a secret, this place is to good to be listed! more

Here's what was missing! 6/23/2003

Yes, I know the rule of not taking friends or giving out the number. Thank God my buddy refused to follow that rule when he took me to M&H the other night. Wow! This has got to be by far the best bar in the city! The drinks are amazing, the atmosphere is mellow without being jaded, and the service makes you feel as though they are truly pleased to have you there! Somehow I'm a better person for having been there... more

Best bar in New York 2/15/2003

I discovered Milk & Honey on Valentine's Day. It is by far the best bar I've been to in New York. The ambiance could not be beat and the clientelle was completely chill. The bartender in particular was amazing, coming to our table to thank us personally for coming. He seemed sincerely humbled when my companions and I gave the bar great praise. If I were to imagine my perfect bar it would surely resemble Milk & Honey. more

impossible 11/2/2002

give the bartender the spirit which you least like to drink and he will make you a drink that has you craving more. it is IMPOSSIBLE to have a drink which you will not enjoy. some may be better than others, but they are all good more

Perfect 8/15/2002

To ditto what other people have said: do not give out the number if you have it. Milk and Honey is simply amazing. Perhaps the best drinks I have ever had in the city. By far the best mojito. A very intimate, clandestine spot. Absolutely the anti-scene. The precise service and coziness make this one of the best places around. Do not go if you expect a loud boistrous night out! more

eliza loves it 7/29/2002

This place is what the doctor ordered. This is the place to wear what you want, go with a handful of people you actually want to talk to, and drink something that you cannot make at home. It's creative, intimate, and no-one bugs people here. The lack of cell phones and hords of annoyance are a relief. I can go here, stay out all night, and not yawn. HOoooooooooooray! Pros: drinks Cons: table reservations more

Best Drinks in NYC 7/18/2002

No question, Milk & Honey serves the absolute best drinks in NYC. The neighborhood isn't the greatest, but inside is a really stylish speakeasy, ideal for a date. Don't give out the number if you have it. more
