Best

One of the best local Midlothian restaurants. Very friendly neighborhood bar with a smokefree dinning area for the family. Casual food but always good. It's just missing an Ocean....

Worst

I had heared good things about this place, but was sadly let down. This is not good seafood. The People were pleasant but that is extent of my positivity.

What a letdown!!! 9/19/2010

My family and I went to MP5 tonight for dinner. What a letdown this place was! It's a converted Darryl's restaurant. There was something in between Darryl's and MP5 (Ye Olde Tavern or something like that-I never went). I had been to Darryl's a few times and it's the same decor. They did one thing that I noticed to improve the interior which was adding rope to the benches for at ""nautical feel"". There were cobwebs in the windows. We got our drinks promptly, but after that it went downhill. (Actually, someone switched the sweet/unsweet tea, so I guess it started there.) We ordered a shrimp app and it came out 30mins later. The server stated that the kitchen was slow. (oooookay?) Shrimp was pretty good (coconut shrimp was eh but the grilled and buffalo shrimp were good), or maybe I was just that hungry. We had to ask for drink refills. Another 35mins pass before our four SANDWICH orders came out. I liked my buffalo shrimp wrap and hubby liked his oyster po'boy. Stepdad's burger was overly dry (but he orders everything well done) and did not come with the side of mayo as requested. Mom's crabcake sandwich was a fillercake sandwich w/crab slivers. She requested onion rings and received french fries and never received the tarter sauce she requested. Onion rings did make it out...the quickest thing all night at less than 5mins. By then she was not hungry. She asked for the manager. Elroy came over and apologized, but it didn't seem sincere. Mom requested that some compensation for the poor food and kitchen service. He wasn't willing to remove anything at first, then offered 5% off and Mom laughed at him and said that we'd not be coming back and would be online telling everyone of our experience. That's when he offered to take care of the bill. Then the bill came and he had removed the app and took $5.00 off. We requested to speak with the manager again. Mom and him disagreed about him offering to take care of the bill. He said he wasn't the owner and couldn't offer to take care of the entire bill. I then asked if he would at least remove mom's ""crabcake"" sandwich since it wasn't even half eaten. He agreed to do that and that was enough to please Mom into paying for the rest of the check, but vowed that she'd be telling everyone about our experience and would never be back. more

Beyond Disgusting 7/3/2008

My husband and I recently moved to the Midlothian area and we have been inundated with direct mail pieces and coupons. After receiving several aforementioned incentives to visit Milepost 5, we finally decided to give it a try along with another couple and their 14 month old son. Almost immediately, I realized we had not mentally nor physically prepared ourselves. We sat at the bar while we waited for a table which gave us an opportunity to absorb the ambiance of which was about to take two hours out of our lives. The only similarities Milepost 5 has to a ?beach atmosphere? are the stains on the carpet and the crabs, both of which are reminiscent to a shared co-ed motel room during spring break. Our waitress forgot several drink orders, appetizer order and the order of grilled chicken for the baby. The seafood platter, which my husband had ordered, could not be fulfilled due to the fact that Milepost 5, a seafood restaurant, was out of everything on the platter except the crab legs. They were also out of Sauvignon Blanc, had never heard of Riesling (Rise to what?) we settled for a warm Chardonnay. I should have known Arbor Mist or Boons Farm would have been a better pairing to my overly cooked crab legs. The salads were a mound of wilted lettuce served on piping hot plates; the salad dressing was warm and a mysterious cross between balsamic vinegar and ranch while the cherry tomatoes were shriveled and could possibly either cause botulism or be used as a polio vaccine. The crab dip was finally served about an hour after it was originally ordered. Between appetizers and dinner, the staff decided to move our table 5 ft to the right. I still have a bruise on my leg from the musical chairs. After the entire calamity, they didn't even accept both coupons and we had to split the discount. Not that the bill broke our wallet, but it would have been nice to get a little incentive for surviving the vile atmosphere. Pros: I never have to go back Cons: I might have gotten infected more

Given up on this place 6/11/2008

We have been regulars for the last several years and enjoyed it up until the last year or so. The quality has been going downhill for quite some time now. While the service is good, upbeat and friendly, the cornbread is about the dryest I have ever had and we have let them know that on so many occassions that I have lost count. It reminds me of something left out that has gotten stale and dry and that just crumbles to dust the moment you try to pick it up. The shrimp has been less than stellar, in both size, quality and cooking preparation. You really must have your oil at the right temp. in order to properly cook battered shrimp. Oysters in the past have been small and not worth the money. We received in the mail, a while back, a card showing where there was a new chef, and showcasing some of the different dishes that he was bringing to the restaurant. They looked really good, but we have yet to see any of them served when we went in. We questioned about it and was told that it was when he wanted to run them. more

Inexpensive tasty seafood 3/29/2008

If you live in the west end it is a bit of a drive to Mile Post 5 but we felt it was worth the extra time especially since there are very few seafood options on this end of town. It is ultra casual (most diners were wearing sweatshirts and t-shirts) and the ambiance is fast food dinerish, but the menu had a variety of options at affordable prices. We really enjoyed the hush puppies and corn bread. The crabcakes and fried scallops were tasty as well. Pros: Inexpensive seafood Cons: clientele and ambiance more

Good ""Hole in the wall"" 4/27/2003

This ""hole in the wall"" was just what we were looking for. Food is very good, if not great, and the service was friendly, if not the fastest in the world. The fried oysters, cocunut shrimp, crabs and cornbread were all winners at our table. At the end of the meal, our server recommended a desert not on the menu that was out of this world. I look forward to going back next time I'm in the mood for fried seafood and a laid back atmosphere. more

Great ""neighborhood feel"" 1/22/2003

This is a great little ""neighborhood"" find - casual, reasonable prices, and the food was very good. Not fancy at all, but the fried shrimp was fresh and not overcooked. Good hushpuppies too...Our server was very pleasant and attentive. Vegetables were a bit overcooked, and the coleslaw was nothing to write home about, but I'll definitely go back when I'm in the mood for seafood. Pros: reasonbly priced, lots of parking, nice area Cons: overcooked veggies more
