Never again will I eat there. 4/17/2010

I went to Mike's 10 years ago, and despite it being a local legend, I didn't like it then. We were in the neighborhood and my son was hungry for a burger today, so we went in. I was really hungry and looking forward to eating a yummy burger. I was utterly and completely disappointed! Thier burgers taste like the cheap sliders you can buy at the grocery store and they were only half the size! We paid over $17 for TWO baskets and not only were the burgers tiny, there weren't even that many fries with it. Oh, I did get a little dollop of potato salad, less than 1/4 cup and it was crap too. If I sound bitter, it's because I am so disappointed that I wasted that meal on Mike's when I could have gotten a better burger just about anywhere else. Seriously bummed. Pros: At least the mushrooms weren't canned Cons: Their burgers are TERRIBLE. more

Accosted at Mike's by an employee and his wife 3/23/2009

Parking is tight there. So tight, that the car next to the space I was pulling in to was in my space. Oh well. I managed to squeeze out my car door, but tapped my car door against hers. When I came back out, she was talking to an employee (turned out to be her husband), and they started yelling at me. I did no damage to their POS car (mine's a POS, too). When I called the manager, the manager had no apology for my being treated that way. YOU LOSE, MIKE'S!! After spending a few hundred dollars there with my family, eating overpriced wafer-thin hamburger, you'll get no business from me again. Cons: Abusive staff more

Not worth my time 11/11/2008

I was on my way home when I stopped in for a quick bite to eat at the Mike's Drive In at 17th and SE Tenino. It was a Tuesday afternoon around 2pm--not peak rush hour by any means. Unfortunately my quick bite turned into a 20-minute wait (actually 18 minutes. I wouldn't want it to seem as if I exaggerated). 'Bob' the Fedex guy, an apparent regular, came in after me and got his food before me. That's never good customer service. My garlic fries sat on the counter for a few good minutes before my cheeseburger was done and the paper-thin beef patty wasn't even cooked all the way! Now I don't mind a little pink in the middle of a nice juicy burger but when the patty is as thin as a Chinet plate, it should be cooked all the way through. And it shouldn't take 18 minutes to make! The cheeseburger alone cost $3.95. If you don't want to go to a major fast-food chain but crave a quick and tasty burger, try Burgerville. They're fast, they're good, and stll pretty local as burger joints go. Pros: fries were good Cons: slow, too expensive for what you get more

long wait, so-so shake, but at least I didn't get the moldy hotdog bun 9/19/2008

Don't be confused, this is a drive-in, NOT a drive-through... no food in a hurry here. Pros: old-fashioned grill catering to family night out. Cons: moldy buns, unflavored shakes more

Best burgers for the price 8/17/2007

These are the best burgers you can get without either making them yourself or going to a spendy restaurant. Actually, they're better than most burgers at restaurants. And honestly, they aren't that expensive. A burger and small fries are $5.25. Although that is more expensive than many fast food chains, the food tastes SO much better, the quality of the food is higher, the food is less greasy, and you can watch it being made. McDonalds, Burger King, Jack in the Box... they just don't even compare. I can't comment on the crowd, as we always do take out. Phone orders are best for take out--it can get quite busy during dinnertime and on weekends. If you love old fashioned drive ins, give Mike's a chance. more

A Sellwood Staple! 12/1/2006

I still remember my first visit to the original Mike's in Milwaukee when I was very young. I remember being impressed with the burgers, but most of all with the milkshakes. Pros: Fantastic meal items, best milkshakes around, call-ahead service available, cool A&W building Cons: Way too expensive. I cannot stress this enough. more

Old Fashioned the New Trend 11/1/2006

I moved to Sellwood in Fall '05 and we had to try Mike's Drive-In. It's right down the street, why not? So, being gay might not have been the best thing, the customers we're somewhat... hickish? No matter, the burgers are OLD SCHOOL. Fat old pattys, big as* fries in a basket meals. It really looks like they cooked a meatwad on a grill in the back - AWESOME for burger lovers. Sure, it's more than McDonalds, but I'm fairly sure that the meat doesn't come prepackaged in uniform shapes!! The people in general were homophobic - or they just had a staring problem - but either way the food was good. Milkshakes old school as well, you can even get seasonal flavours and marshmellow (the sign of good milkshakes, obscure flavours). Good meal, strange people. Overall, a plus. No drive through, though, that's why they call it drive-""in"" ;) Pros: Old fashion taste, fast food blast from the past Cons: More than you'd pay elsewhere, not 'out of the norm' friendly more

best burgers ever 8/25/2006

I have been going to Mike's since I was a kid. By far the best burgers anywhere. Even better than in-n-out. Also, amazing milkshakes. My only complaint: no location on the westside. Pros: great food, good prices, fast service Cons: not enough locations, none on the westside more

Value Menu?!?! 10/9/2002

This restaurant serves decent hamburgers, and the milkshakes are famous and probably the best in town, but there is no value to speak of. Prices ranging from over 3.00 for a basic hamburger is too rich for most burger eater's blood. Most everything on the menu is overpriced, but they do offer coupons in various papers sometimes. It's just a hassle to have to bring a coupon when dining out. I will attest the food is great, though--just pricey. Maybe they should adopt a value menu. Pros: Milkshakes, Old fash. A&W site, Other food good Cons: Expensive, No drive thru, No "drive in" area more
