""One out of two a'int bad"" 4/18/2011

Visited San Antonio in April 2011 to see bluebonnets. No bluebonnets to see, so we spent time on Riverwalk during Fiesta. Resturant very busy. Mother very much enjoyed the chicken piccata-type dish. Daughter's order for angel hair pasta and pesto with chicken came with shrimp. Chicken piccata dish was exceptional; shrimp and angel hair was watery and bland. Wait staff was less than impressive. Bathroom was clean. Reasonably priced. more

Worst Restaurant 6/25/2010

We were a group of four adults. The service was not good, but the worst part was the food. We all ordered different plates and they were all bad and tasteless. The server couldn't care less!!! Cons: Terrible food, bad service more

Pubic hair in my coffee 10/14/2009

When I stopped over to have a couple of expressos with my dad, the server took no less than 10 minutes to pay any attention to us and the place did not look that busy. Eventually we ordered 2 expressos and waited an additional 10 minutes for them. When they arrived, they were cold and we received no spoons. When we asked for spoons, the Server seemed slightly outraged at my line of questioning but eventually complied and provided us 2 soup spoons which were bigger than the coffee cups. I started drinking my coffee and felt some hair in my lip. I then removed the ""hairy curly folicles"" from my mouth and went to speak to the manager. I was outraged!. when eventually he came over, he was pretty blaze about the whole experience and did not even apologize. How this septic place remains open is beyond me. This place is an absolute disgrace. Pros: septic kitchen Cons: pubic hair in my coffee more

Food Sickness and Horrible Food 5/11/2009

This was the worst dining experience, food wise, I can recall in 40 years. My family wanted to eat on the Riverwalk for Mother's Day/ Anniversary, My daughter wanted spaghetti, so we chose the patio at Michelino's. We had bland tasteless food, followed by a night of hell. We were sick to our stomachs (food contamination), going at both ends and so exhausted we didn't even sit up until after 2pm the following day. The desert, which we ordered because our food was horrible (look and taste), was not authentic or worth finishing either. I don't think they know what Tiramisu is, as when I mentioned to our waiter that it wasn't typical, he said that people had commented about that before. He was nice, but not concerned about our food experience. The only good part was the scenery. This restaurant should be SHUT DOWN. Pros: Setting Only Cons: NO TASTE, contaminated--food sickness more

Not worth the money 5/3/2009

Upon entering the restaurant we were struck by a musky smell that was not very appealing. We were looking forward to a good Italian meal, but were sorely disappointed. My boyfriend and I both ordered pasta dishes and received a large amount of very bland, flavorless food. Our waitress asked if we wanted parmesan on our pasta, when I said yes, she proceeded to put her hands all over it while she struggled to shred some onto my plate. This is not what I consider to be a cleanly thing to do, needless to say, my boyfriend skipped the parmesan. This restaurant seems to subscribe to the philosophy of quantity, not quality. We would not recommend dining here despite the pretty scenery, I know I will not be returning. Pros: Pretty scenery Cons: just about everything else. more

Horrible Food 3/25/2009

We come to the River Walk about once a year to have dinner and enjoy the scenery. Living in Texas, we have Mexican food quite often and decided to try something different. Woops... The food was horrible. I don't normally take the time to write things like this, but it was bad enough for me to do so. We shared the pork medallions with steamed vegetables and mashed potatoes. It reminded me of the TV dinners I had as a kid. The vegetables had no flavor and were extremely crispy. The ""pork"" contained more gravy and huge (crispy!!!) mushrooms than actual pork. The look of the gravy/mushroom/pork mix reminded me of the vegetable stew-style dog food I serve my dogs. There was nothing Italian about this meal. When I walked inside to use the restroom, the whole restaurant had a faint ""bathroom"" smell. Our server was friendly and helpful and everything came on time. The view was nice, overlooking the Riverwalk. If we hadn't been starving and desperate to finally sit down, we would have returned everything and complained... Pros: Nice View Cons: Bad food, smells bad inside more

BLAND IS NOT THE WORD FOR IT! KEEP WALKING DOWN THE RIVER! 12/13/2008

I cannot say anymore then others already have. My wife and Myself decided to try them out. This was a mistake. Food tasted Frozen not fresh. Meat tough and bland. Not sure what else to say but if you want bad service and bad food go here. The only way this place could get a good review is if the owner or employee post something on here claiming to be someone else. Cons: TO MANY TO LIST BLAND FROZEN FOOD NOT FRESH more

KEEP ON WALKING 1/12/2008

Horrible! We came to San Antonio for our anniversary and we went for a walk on the Riverwalk on a Friday evening. We stopped at Michelinos for dinner and at first we thought the restaurant looked nice, we sat outside, and ordered some drinks. The waitress brought us bread and olive oil. The olive oil was good, but the bread was absolutely disgusting. It was soft, old, dry and tasted like bread you might buy at a chain grocery store. When we asked the waitress if she could bring us a bread that had a little more crisp crust, she informed us that the bread is kept in a bread warmer and there was no way to make it crispier. (So I guess they don't have an oven). For the appetizer we ordered stuffed mushrooms and calamari. The mushrooms looked and tasted as if someone else had ordered them hours ago and then sent them back, so they reheated them and served them to us. The calamari I would swear was imitation calamari. It just didn't have the right texture. The waitress brought us a new loaf of bread that she said was more crisp. I think she went to the bread warmer and took the loaf from the back that had been in there all day and dried out. Pillsbury makes better bread than they do and it comes from a can. We didn't eat any main courses, we decided we had seen enough so we paid and left. Pros: Location, Seated promptly (only because no one wants to eat there) Cons: Food, Service, Bread, more

Terrible service, bland food- don't waste your money 5/22/2007

Tonight was my first experience on the riverwalk (beautiful) and had heard so much about the fun atmosphere and great restaurants and was looking forward to a great night of with my mom and sister. As we walked down the river walk we chose Michelinos, but we should have kept walking! We were seated and when they brought our waters out there was a moldy lemon on the edge of the glass. We let it pass and ordered. The bread and olive oil wasn't any good. And each of our dishes were bland and trust me the ingredients were NOT fresh. The food tasted like it was prefrozen (especially the vegetables) and the combination of ingredients were disgusting- gorgonzola and carrots, asiago and red onions- NOT GOOD. As the waiter cleared the table he dropped the silverware on me. That can happen to the best of waiters, but the bad service really came when he brought the manager to us because I complained and the manager told me what I really should have ordered instead of what I did and then when I handed her the moldy lemon she didn't say anything and just walked away. The waiter came back and had taken my meal off the bill, but I was not impressed with the way the manager handled the whole affair and the quality of the food. I will definitly be going back to the riverwalk, but never to that restaurant. more

A RESTAURANT THAT DOES NOT NEED YOUR BUSINESS 12/28/2005

My wife and I stopped in to dine at Michelinos, and we were seated. We sat there and waited for someone to offer us drinks or take our order, for at least 15 minutes. The waiters buzzed by, but never stopped to help us. After all this waiting, another couple was seated next to us. Then they were given drinks, and their order was taken. We went to complain to the hostess and she laughed at us. She was very rude and lacks sensitivity. We left after receiving no service and will never go back again. Cons: Rude, Unprofessional, Insensitive more

Not as good as most Italian Chains 7/27/2005

I have to agree with to earlier reviewers. The food was very plain, very bland. Very nice setting on the Riverwalk. The menu was a bit pricy but acceptable for the location. However, the food did not match the price. My daughter had Spag & Meatballs - the plate looked anemic. How do they do that with a red sauce? There are many other Italian joints within 5 minutes - give those a try - they have got to be better. Finally, they had Mexican music / musicans - they were good but not Italian! They should be different and play Italian music - that would be a treat! Pros: Lots of outside seats, Good Mexican Music Cons: Had Mexican music more

Bland; go elsewhere 2/4/2005

Top complaint is the bland food. I had a lot left over mainly because I had no incentive to finish my dish. The location is nice right on the Riverwalk, but the same goes for every other restaurant within a 5 minute walk. The price was fairly steep and not worth it. There wasn't a crowd, and I now see why. Stay away if you want a memorable Riverwalk experience. Oh, and the chicken wasn't lean the way I expect it from a decent restaurant; it was plenty fatty and I had to cut and spit often. Pros: Riverwalk Cons: taste, cost, quality more

Not A Good Experience 3/6/2004

Michelinos for italian cuisine on the riverwalk is a joke. My wife, three kids, and I were there just yesterday. The service was terrible (slow, untrained, eating at a side table instead of bringing us our food). I had the shrimp and scallop angel hair dish, which was served with linguine instead of angel hair. This dish had very little taste at all. The alfredo sauce was very thin and bland. The best part of the meal was the garlic bread. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT!!!!! Pros: Plenty of open tables Cons: , Taste of Food more

Acceptable Italian on river walk 1/19/2003

I went to this restaurant with my fiancee, sister & her date who were in the mood for Italian. We were not disappointed with any of our entrees. Everything I sampled (we shared) was top notch for San Antonio, which generally lacks in good Italian cuisine. My entree, a chicken dijon dish, was the best... I would definitely go back! Despite still getting over a stomach virus when I went, I ate every bite and didn't regret it. Their appetizers that we had were not as good as the main dishes. We didn't have room for dessert; a pity too judging from the last review. We'll have to try it next time! If there were any negatives at all it would have to be the service, which was a little slow and we had to hunt for someone to give us our bill. But, all in all, a good experience. Pros: quality entrees, inexpensive for Ital more
