Avoid if possible 1/10/2007

MIA is a horrible airport to fly to and from. Parking is $8 in the park and ride and $15 per day in the garages, which is pretty pricey. We reserved parking online at a nearby independent lot with airportparkingreservations.com, which was helpful. Right now, MIA has a lot of construction going on around it, which makes driving there not very much fun. The airport itself is pretty confusing and disorganized, but it has quite a few shops and restaurants before you go through security. After you do go through there isn't much at all, so make sure to get a nice cuban coffee before you go through. MIA is also quite crowded, and there were huge crowds at baggage claim. Luckily, the baggage claim conveyor belts did have digital signs above them saying which flights were coming out on that belt because our pilot told us the wrong belt when we got off our plane. The plus side is that it didn't take long to go through security. I'd rather fly out of FLL or PBI anyday, PBI is my favorite airport. more

Miami International Airport (MIA) 10/2/2006

I haven't to to MIA since the airport restrictions of 9-11, as well as the completion of construction. I don't travel that often. But from my last experience, it wasn't too bad. It's a large airport, so it gets a little confusing, especially inside the parking garages when it's hard to figure out what section you're parked in. They try to make it easy on you by naming the garages after animals -- like Flamingo and Dolphin, and further that by reminding you to stamp your parking stub at the elevator -- it stamps your parking section on it. (There's an announcement that plays over a PA in English and Spanish.) I remember parking sucked -- always full, but that might be different now. And parking was not cheap. Parking isn't cheap anywhere anymore, but I just remember thinking MIA was expensive even back then. Personally, I don't like MIA; if I can avoid flying in and out of there I do. Luckily, PBIA ( http://www.judysbook.com/members/11971/posts/2006/9/464241/ ) is only 10 minutes from me and it keeps growing bigger so the fares for the places I would frequent are getting cheaper. more
