Editorial review from Citysearch 5/9/2013

I was hoping this place was as good as people say it is, but it's not. The wait is way too long. The restaurant is extremely cramped. We ordered a flauta plate and the flautas were not crispy at all. The rice had no flavor. Even the tortilla chips were stale. Worst mexican food I've ever tasted. Is this REALLY what people are hyped about? THIS RESTAURANT? My mother makes better mexican food than this!\r \r The people who say this restaurant is good obviously don't know anything about real mexican food. \r more

Editorial review from Citysearch 7/3/2012

The worst experience never. The flata plate was horrid. The corn tortilla should be crispy and it was rubbery and the chicken was so dry it's taste like jerky. The Margarita were 10 dollars served on a glass that was only 14 oz. more

GREAT Traditional Mexican Food!!!! 11/22/2009

We went to this restaurant with a group of 10 at approximately 5:00 PM on a Friday evening. From the moment we walked in it was a very pleasant experience! The hostess quickly arranged tables to accommodate us as we were a walk-in party. Once seated the server was very pleasant and prompt with our drink orders. During the ordering phase she was very helpful with information on the entrees and their contents. Pros: Prices, service, quality and quantity of the food more

Classic San antonio 8/23/2009

My family has been coming here for Fifty years. The food is always Excellent. The Chulpas Compuestas are to die for. i love this place always will. Ask for refried bean when you order a meal you'll be glad you did Pros: Great Salsa Cons: Limited seaing, Limited parking more

""A Night To Remember!"" 8/23/2008

35th Year Wedding Anniversary celebration - on the river! Superbly arranged and catered out, by the entire staff of the Mexican Manhattan. Inclement weather hampering events, including a featured barge ride, the staff responded with multiple contingencies keeping our celebration extremely pleasant for our guests and us - yet still managed to pull off all our plans and expectations. Pros: Service, Food, Ambience Cons: Parking access, especially handicapped more

Horrible the worst food almost ever! 8/11/2008

Unfortunatley my family and I headed into the riverwalk at the wrong place and decided to eat here. Worst mistake ever. The only thing that was ok was the service and the margaritas so if you only want drinks and prefer to sit outside it would be fine, the food and atmosphere inside was my problem. The food was so greasy and there was no variety, the salsa was very bland the chips were to thick....and the compliants about the food could go on and on. The inside looks like an old dingy cafeteria with nasty florecent lights. The manager was kind of rude when we mentioned we did not want to sit in the main area due to this it was just flat out so ugly. Like I said our server was very nice He is normally just the bartender though. I do not recomend it at all..........at all it was over piced I paid around $70 it was worth $15, could of had a far better meal at taco bell. Pros: Magaritas ok , and service ok Cons: everything else more

Terrible Food-Terrible Service 4/23/2008

Would not recommend. Food was not that great and the service was terrible. The waitress was not helpful at all. She took our food order and as soon as we gave her the last one she quickly walked away. We were not done ordering, we were going to also get mixed drinks but would not give us the time of day to complete our ordering. We tried to call her back and she ignored us. One person in our party wanted a small plate to put her taco on so it would be seperate from the food to avoid being soggy. It took the waitress 20 minutes before she brought that plate. We had to chase her down if we wanted anything else and even then we didn't get it. We also had to wait 30 minutes for her to bring the bill. It was just terrible. There are many very good places to eat at downtown, expecially on the River Walk. Don't waist your time or money on this one.. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!! Pros: Nothing Cons: Parking, Dingy looking place, Bad service, Food is probably the worst I have had downtown more

My favorite restaurant period! 2/11/2008

This is my favorite restaurant in San Antonio. My entire family has gone to Mexican Manhattan since it first opened. They started selling fajitas and flour tortillas in the last few years ago, but I never order them because I like the original dinners on the menu the best. It's kinda sad that maybe they felt pressured to offer fajitas and flour tortillas like every other restaurant in town. I stick with original plates and corn tortillas... merchant special, chef's special, or manhattan royal. I love their refried beans best, and I like to order chile over the rice. I have also had a birthday party there with buffet, and everyone had a great time. The bar area is really nice. Pros: the food is great.. service is good Cons: parking, there is a line during lunch rush but it's worth the wait more

Best, by far, Mexican food on the Riverwalk! 11/20/2007

This is the place we take visitors when they come to San Antonio. Eat on the patio. Riverwalk ambiance without the bustle. The patio overlooks the river without the crowd of tourists bumping into your table. The food is great and really affordable. The staff is experienced and friendly. You can't beat it. Pros: Great food, Riverwalk without the crowd. Cons: Parking more

Best in SA 6/9/2007

This will probably be my only review for any restaurant on the site. Never mind the negative reviews, Mexican Manhattan is amazing. The food is delicious, and I'm so picky, and extremely critical with Mexican food. I've been going regularly since I was a baby, and my mother has since she was, too. It's a family favorite. The enchiladas are the best in town, chili con queso is the BEST way to start off a meal, wonderful salsa, and even the iced tea is great. The inside may not be too fancy, but the food definitely makes up for it, and the relatively new outdoor, riverside dining is awesome. The waiters/waitresses are extremely friendly, and are always accurate with orders. I'd have to say the biggest con would be parking. Depending on what day it is, or what time, it's sometimes hard to find good parking on the street. Pros: Food quality, portions, staff, comfort Cons: parking more

reasonable prices, prompt service, fresh food 11/9/2006

My mom has been going to this place for years-and ever time we visit S.A. we have to eat here-The fresh corn tortillas served piping hot are an excellent way to start a meal or try the fresh nachos and salsa. Make sure that you have fasted well before visiting this place because the portions are huge. The restaurant has undergone many physical changes in the last decade such as the addition of the outside seating area overlooking the Riverwalk canal ( a great plus), but a few things has remained the same the consistency of food and the great service. Pros: great value, great service, good food Cons: waiting for a table more

Great somewhat hidden riverwalk restaurant 10/15/2006

This hidden jewel is an overlooked riverwalk eatery. The restaurant and bar are awesome, but MAKE CERTAIN YOU EAT OUTSIDE on the balcony over the river. Inside is like any Jalisco Taqueria in SA, but outside is very nice. Food is good and cheap. Pros: Food quality, Price Cons: Don't eat inside!!! more

the best Cabritto 4/5/2006

I was walking down the riverwalk an my nose led me up some stairs to a very nice patteo and into the bar. The barstaff was very friendly and willing to help me find something to drink with my oe requested ingrediant. I had my dinner out on the patio overlooking the beautiful river, during December. They had these hudge heaters that they brought to the tables with patrons. The service was prompt and conversatinal. I ordered the cabritto (goat) and and an enchilada. The cabritto was the best I ever had! The salsa wasn't spicy but yet was very addicting. Pros: quick, pleasant, beautful river view more

Overrated - Good Service 3/31/2006

This is an overrated place. Do not eat the guacamole tacos unless you really love guac mixed with nothing. Service was okay; ambiance is not that great unless you eat outside. more

Best Mexican Food in S.A. 3/23/2006

This has been a favorite of mine since the early 90's. I have always recieved great service. The food is absolutely delicious. MY favorite is the cheese enchiladas. If you haven't tried it... your missing out! Pros: great salsa, good portions, great margaritas more

Deeeelicious!! 3/2/2006

Mexican Manhattan's best plate is the Manhattan Royal, but don't order it if you're not too hungry. One thing you have to try is the Chile con queso, it is finger licking good! The best place to sit is outside on the patio. more

The Best In Town 7/25/2004

Mexican Manhattan is the best Mexican food in town. The food is cooked fresh and served hot! If you like canned beans or rice from an instant box don't visit this place. Fresh corn and flour tortillas are great. The wait staff is very polite and are quick to please. The atmosphere is good for all types. Prices are very affordable. Don't miss the free buffet during happy hour. Don't let the negative critques fool you. Pros: low prices, great food, great staff more

When these guys say ""The Mexican Manhattan has the very best mexican food in San Antonio,"" they mean it. Their food is excellent. The environment is geat and the people will do anything to make your meal mre enjoyable. Two thumbs up!! Pros: Inexpensive, Food, Service more

Mexican't 2/25/2003

Although the plates are big the food is average if not lower. For mexican food your money will be better spent elsewhere. more
