This place is charming, but was incredibly understaffed (we had to wave our arms repeatedly to get any service). The appetizers (notably the escargot) were excellent, but the mai...

Good for Happy Hour before 7 5/20/2008

It is similar to Indian food but we tried some exotic dish like buffalo momos for appetizer and goat curry ??..of course who can walk out with out having chicken tikka masala and paratha bread. The atmosphere was warm and cozy and they were playing afrofunk. Best time to go before 7, they have happy hour half off on beers and wines. They do have good selection Belgian beers. I have to try their brunch at the patio. Pros: Good wines and beers Cons: Difficult Parking more

Watch out!! 2/7/2008

My husband and I went there for the first time tonight. The chicken inside of the chicken momos appetizer we got was COMPLETELY RAW!!! Unfortunately, we'd both eaten half a dumpling before we realized. We left immediately. We are praying we don't get sick. If the restaurant isn't able to cook chicken properly, I don't trust them with the rest of my meal. more

Absolutely wonderful Nepalese food in a comfortable atmosphere with outstanding service! 12/29/2007

While visiting in San Francisco for the holidays, our group of four chose to dine at Metro Kathmandu. The entire experience was beyond expectations. The red color of the walls signifying happiness in the Nepalese culture set the atmosphere for a unforgetable dining experience. We were immediately greeted as we entered the restaurant and taken to our table. Water glasses were immediately filled and drink orders taken. Service was not only professional but very attentive.. We ordered appetizers and shared each others for a taste of all. Oh my goodness they were wonderful. Our entrees were absolutely a taste to treasured. Again we shared each other's choice as we sat and ooh'ed and aahed. We finished off our meal with the flourless carrot cake and mango ice cream. If you are particular about the quality of your food, try the Metro Kathmandu. You will agree dishes are prepared with the highest quality ingredients. Can't boast enough how great our meal was. more

Overpriced, small dishes... sub-par all in all 8/30/2007

This is my first review inspired by a bad experience. Do not go here unless you like overpriced, small portions and not-so-spicy Indian food. First-off, I was disappointed with the options on the menu (there was only about 8 entree options). I went here on the recommendations from yelp since there were none here as yet. It poses as a Nepalese restaurant but only serves dishes that you would find in any Indian restaurant, and certainly no more well made. On the upside, the atmosphere is nice and the drinks were good. I appreciated the the decor, but it certainly wasn't worth the 100+ price tag for four (still hungry on leaving) people. Pros: ambience, drinks Cons: everything else more

Very Nice! 11/13/2006

I saw this place on the show ""$40 s Day"", and decided to try it. I thought it was great. When most other places were booked solid for a Sat. night, Le Metro got me and 4 other guests a reservation right away. The prix fix meal was nicely priced at $16.50 (only downside is: that was the price from only 5:30p - 6:30p). I took other citysearch users advice and ordered an appetizer. The portions overall were indeed small, but with the appetizer I left feeling very full. In the end, you'll pay about $25/person not including drinks, but I know a lot of other places that charge more and you get far less for your money. I will definitely go back to this place. more

best filet in town 7/2/2006

the filet with warm blue cheese sauce was heavenly...the best filet i've had in the city. the all french wait staff made our visit authentic. don't be shunned by the questionable location or tiny store front. very quaint, few tables and a great menu and wine list make this local spot and must. more

Parisian restaurant transplanted 5/5/2006

The Metro Cafe is a secret little jem hidden in an unexpected place. The food is some of the best French food I have had since living in Paris. Every one that I have brought there has delighted at the quality of the food and the wonderfully relaxed atmosphere. The patio out back is great for summer evenings with a cafe au lait or a glass of wine. The most amazing thing about the place is the price. The prix fixe menu at $16 for three incredible courses can not be be rivaled in the city. The place is small and always hopping so sometimes you have a bit of a wait on service. Make reservations as it can be packed, especially on weekend nights. Bon appetit! Pros: Great Prix Fixe Menu, Excellent food, Wonderful ambiance Cons: Crowded more

Good food doesn't have to come in big portions 1/25/2006

At a friend's recommendation, I have eaten at the Metro several times and have introduced friends who still share my views. For those who look for generous portions, Metro might not fit their criteria..but for those who crave for good French cooking with rich flavors and fresh ingredients, you'll be back for more. The portions are good, considering the rich sauces will fill you up. The pre-fixe is a great value. People tend to eat with their eyes instead of their taste buds. Food for thought! Pros: Real French cooking, Friendly staff, Good flavors Cons: Not open for lunch more

Lovely place 1/6/2006

I went there with my Girl friend, the service was professional and the food was great, the place is charming with very interressant art on the wall. You feel in France for two hours , recomended to people that like good wine and food. Pros: inexpensive more

Great neighborhood place 12/16/2005

Everyone is complaining about small portions... I think American just need to eat smaller portions in general! Metro gives great quality for the price. I don't need a mound of food on my plate, just want it to be solidly good, and this place is great for that. If you're looking for quantity, go to the Olive Garden. For authentic french fare at great prices, go to Metro. What's that they say about why french women never get fat?! And Baboo (sp?), the host and I think owner, is fabulously welcoming, to boot. Go try it out for yourself; if you order an appetizer, entree, and dessert (as people should be able to do in a restaurant) you won't leave feeling like a cow. Pros: perfect portion sizes, very authentic, lovely patio Cons: parking, a little noisy more

Tiny portions! 12/8/2005

This place is so close to my home that I would love to eat here more often but I just hate getting such a small portion of food for my meal! You almost need to order two meals to get a full dinner. The atmosphere, service and food are all good but I always leave feeling a little hungry and a little ripped off. more

I want to like this place more... 1/18/2005

Having been twice, I want to like the place more. The hostess and waitstaff are very friendly and professional, and the food is generally very good. However, the $17 for the steak frites is steep - the steak is pretty small, and unfortunately the last time we went the kitchen was distracted by a large group and really overcooked it. In general, I feel the portions are smaller than comperably priced French bistros in the city. I'm willing to go again, as the place has real charm, and a nice wine list. more

Just Like Europe 10/3/2004

This is one of my favorite restaurants in the city. The prices are reasonable and the food is delicious despite small portions. The atmosphere reminds me of bistro dining in Europe. A great place for a small group of friends or to take a date. Check them out! Pros: Atmosphere, Affordable French, Polite Service more

Parisian 9/20/2004

Customer service was great however, the food was average. There is a prixe fixed meal, however, it's Chef's choice only. Pros: Great for small group, Great prices more

Great Food 1/15/2004

The Metro is my favorite restaurant in the city. Whenever I have friends or family in town I always bring them here. This is a great place to celebrate a special occasion without breaking the bank. It can get noisy if it is crowded since the restaurant is small. Pros: Inexpensive, Great food, Great menu Cons: loud more

excellent price! 8/18/2003

wow! i love the extremely affordable prices. i came here with a group of friends before the opera and i was really impressed with how fast they served the food. the main entree wasn't extremely big, but for $12.50, it doesn't get any better! Pros: affordable, quick, delicious more

Best Value in town! 4/17/2003

Great french food for a very reasonable price. Not to mention the very soft and nice backgroud music {Amelie soundtrack ;0) } and the extremely nice service. Metro became a regular stop for us - we definitely recommend it. more

very authentic French cusine 10/30/2002

The prix fix menu is so good with reasonable price. The appetizer of the mussels are wonderful!!! Pros: inexpensive, cozzy environment, great service Cons: none, none, none more

Excellent eats, great ambiance 8/25/2002

We loved it! Delicious food, romantic, fun! Our waitress was also the owner, and she was charming, professional, attentive, and a pleasure to talk to. I definitely recommend it. more
