Stay far away from this company, they are friendly during the initial sign up making no mention of being locked into a 3 year contract. The sales person tells you the credit card processing fees and their monthly fees are low, however after a few monthly statements their rates go up higher than initially agreed upon. Once I mentioned that I was unhappy with their services and wanted to cancel, they told me that I was locked into a 3 year contract and a early termination fee would cost between $250-$300 and or $25.00 a month for the remainder of the contract. STAY AWAY from Merchant One they are a rip off company. I will be contacting BBB and my attorney. more

Merchant One is misleading! I signed up with them two years ago, We did about $180K worth of business with them. However, shortly after beginning, we found they capped the transaction dollar amount on purchases, which hurt us dearly due to our high ticket sales. Also they raised our interest rate about 5 times during the year ""due to higher interchange rates"".... So the advertised rate didn't last long. Also their statement fees, yearly $99 account fee, and PCI and monthly fees were exhorbitant. They hold you hostage to a three year agreement, and if you cancel early, (which I just did) they say they charge you $25 a month for every month left on your contract. However, if this amount is less than $295 then they charge you the greater amount. So it has cost me $425 to get out of my account this year. DO NOT RECOMMEND! more

I made the HUGE mistake of switching to Merchant One. Let it be a lesson to anyone considering them for CC processing. They will say anything to sign you - including blatant lying and withholding critical information. more

DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE! 4/13/2012

This company uses very deceptive practices. THEY PREY ON SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS. Their sales people are very nice and you trust what they say, but once you sign your contract, everything changes. They have a ""Program Guide"" that they refer you to when you sign up, and another one after you sign the contract. We were told we were under contract for one year -- but when we wanted to cancel, they referred us to a program guide that said 3 years. Now 3 years are up and they referred us to another program guide that says 5 years. I have NEVER before seen this program guide. But since we don't have anything on the actual contract, I guess they can say whatever they want. FOR YOUR OWN GOOD, STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY! I WISH I COULD GIVE THEM NEGATIVE STARS! more

RIP OFF COmpany 4/12/2012

Lack of disclosure is a big money-maker for this company! I will pay my 'early termination' fee with a smile just to get rid of Merchant One. more

Merchant Once Deceives You To Get The Sale 12/30/2011

I called Merchant One when I bought a business and needed their services. I looked up several companies online and called all of them for quotes. Merchant One had the lowest quotes and that's why I chose them. However, what they quoted me over the phone compared to the actual fees was very different. First they gave me quotes verbally, then they sent a word document re-stating those same fees, and finally they sent me the actual contract. After reading the word document I felt as if that was it, so I didn't pay much attention to the fine print in their contract. When I talked to the sales person over they phone I clearly asked her if there were any other fees that I should know about and she said no. I even asked her what would happen if I didn't have any transactions in a month and she said all you'll pay is just the $7.95 monthly fee. She forgot to mention a 'gateway fee' for processing through the internet. That 'gateway fee' is about $12/month, she didn't mention the annual fee of $99, and she didn't mention the $129 annual PCI Compliance fee. And the latest is that I just called to cancel the service so I wouldn't get charge the annual fee for next year and now they're telling me that the fee is for the year prior, that they don't bill the fee in advance. COME ON!!, I just looked up my contract and nowhere does it mention that. So please stay away from these folks and from any merchant provider for that matter. They hide their fees in many deceptive ways, why can't there be a flat fee? No, they have to have a 'per swipe fee,' 'per transaction percentage,' 'batch fees,' 'gateway fees,' 'PCI Compliance fee,' 'annual fee,'. They get you with the per transaction percentage, saying it will only be 1.59%, so you're like, ""Wow, that's really low!"" But once you divide all your charges from them by the annual sales number you find out they're actually charging you above 6%, which is just flat out robbery. Look up alternatives online, these merchants are gonna be a thing of the past pretty soon. more

I have had a great experience so far 2/4/2010

I will say I was a little hesitant by all the negative reviews after signing up with Merchant One. I have a very small business and mostly do all my retail at craft shows. However, I signed up for Merchant One for two reasons: 1. Another reputable vendor that I met at a local craft show uses merchant one and said they were a good company to deal with. 2. Their rates were considerably low for the type of business I have. I made sure to read all the fine print before I signed. I even called back many times to make sure I understood what I was signing. I have yet to talk to someone who is rude. I was actually surprised that they were giving me exceptional customer service. I can probably only name one other company that has as good customer service. If you do decide to go with Merchant One read everything and ask every single question so that you understand the terms. As far as peoples complaints about PCI compliance, from what I have researched, they are doing that in all companies accepting credit cards. For me, Merchant One, divided that payment up into 12 months and reduced the total fee by $50. Will they do that next year? I don't know. They may have only reduced it for me b/c I was a new client, which would be pretty typical. Just so you know, they do have an annual fee of $99.00, and as with any contract there is a buyout. The guy I talked to specifically placed me on a 1 year agreement, and made sure it was in the contract I signed. Then just to make sure that was legit, I called a couple days after joining to see what type of lease term I was locked into, they let me know it was 1 Year. So again, read everything and know what your are going to be paying before you sign on the dotted line. Just as an FYI, I only use their dial pay program, so I am not familiar what is involved with leasing their other equipment. Pros: Great Customer Service, Low rates Cons: Annual Fee more

Opened a merchant account. I explained to the salesman that I was a very small businessman and I did not know whether I would be in business for 1 month, 3 months or forever. I explained I would be doing internet sales and point of sales. The sales rep did not explain they were setting me up with 2 accounts. This cost an additional $30 per month. From my understanding it was a month to month contract but as I found out that was not the case. I did not need 2 accounts or a 5 year contract! When I tried to close one of the accounts, I was told it was on a 3 or 5 year contract-no one knew for sure. To get out of a contract it was going to cost me $25 per month per contract for 3-5 years depending on who I spoke to. After trying to resolve the issue many times with customer service, they said I could cancel one account now at no charge. My sales rep said he would work with me in 2010 to resolve the other account.. I felt like I was caught between a rock and a hard place, so I agreed. They email me a cancellation letter and nowhere did it state that I would be charged. So I contacted Nancy (a supervisor) at Merchant One and told her I would not sign this until she sent an email confirming that I would not be billed. Her email stated ?Kelvin-I have attached a cancellation form. Please note: Your business will not incur any penalties for terminating one account because you still will have one active merchant account with us. Thank you.? Within 24 hours of faxing the cancellation letter, Merchant One took $800 out of my account. After this I was no longer willing to wait another month to work on the other account. I contacted Merchant One immediately. They admitted money should not have been taken out of my account and said it would be replaced in 7-14 business days. That is great that they will return the money but now I have overdrafts and other fees acquiring. I no longer had money for a show that I wanted to do, I was hoping to get some sales before Christmas, well that never happened. The money was finally returned but it has cost me in many other ways. Merchant One?s excuse for taking the money was that I did not send the fax to the right person. I believe the sales rep said what he needed to say to get me to sign and once I did, all the terms changed. I signed up for a $25 per month account and got a nightmare. Summary: Lied to andor neglecting to disclose terms & agreements of account (s) Poor response from customer service Unauthorized monies taken from account after email says it will not happen Poor response from messages or emails Pros: ???? Cons: to many more

Great Rates, Fast Service 12/21/2009

I called to setup an account to accept credit card payments from my customers for my small home repair business. I originally thought I would need to purchase expensive equipment to use and was surprised to hear about low cost options to use my cell phone or internet connection to process. I went with the phone in option and was up and running in 2 days. I have already recommended the service to a few friends and have received a referral bonus! Pros: Next Day Deposits, Free after hours support Cons: Statements not online more

NO MESSING AROUND 12/21/2009

My experience with Merchant One was fast and easy!! My sales rep took the time to answer ALL of my questions and concerns and even gave me some great ideas for my business. I am really glad that I get to speak to the same person every time and get the personalized attention I feel my business deserves. There is NO MESSING AROUND with Merchant One and I recommend them to ANYONE looking for credit card processing!!! Pros: Proffesional, Fast and Personal Service Cons: I didn't do this sooner more

Good Start 12/21/2009

I called merchant 1 to get a credit card terminal for my pizza place. I was new to the business and didn't know where to start. merchant1 was able to get me a credit card terminal free of cost, and even overnighted it to me free of charge since i was opening the next day. Everything was done in a timely manner and efficiently, and to this day, i've been with them for 6 weeks now i have not has any issues. Their customer service is easily reachable, and on the ball. Pros: quick turn around time, quick deposit timeframe (next day) Cons: none as of yet more

LIARS!!! 12/1/2009

Merchant One boasts about their customer service, but my experiences with them have been TERRIBLE! I loath the day that I ever signed up with them. I am a small business owner and money is tight for me, as I'm sure it is for most of you. I put in a credit card transaction nearly two months ago and still have not seen a cent of that money. The lady who was supposed to be my representative, Diana I believe was her name, obviously could care less about customer service or her job. She acted annoyed anytime I asked questions and was extremely condescending and rude to me.. And what's annoying is that they wouldn't even let me change representatives! Anytime I called with a complaint they tried to send me back to her! It's as if there is no accountability. Four times they told me that the money would be deposited within 24-48hrs and it never happened. Turns out, I'm a security threat to them and I'm sure they'll hold it for the entire 180 days to make absolutely sure they are covered, because ""they"" are all that they are looking out after. My wife and I don't have a lot of money and every cent is a big deal to us during these times. And although $579.00 is all I'm complaining about and it does not seem like enough to make a fuss over, it's a lot to us and we were depending on that money. We depended and counted on their word that the money would be deposited multiple times within 24-48hrs and it never showed up. It hurt our family and now we are freaking out wondering where the money is going to come. My complaints only fall on deaf ears. They offered nothing to compensate, nothing to ease my fears... they've only slapped me with another fee for wanting to discontinue services. I obviously can't get through to them, but I hope to prevent some of you from the same pitfall that is Merchant One. Pros: none. the pro's are only in THEIR favor Cons: they are like reverse Robin Hoods more

TERRIBLE, THIEVES, POOR SERVICE 10/7/2009

I strongly recommend using PAYPAL. Merchant one is a thief. i cancelled the day after i signed up because they could not deliver what was promised & they've been charging me ever since - THREE MONTHS. Their own employee admits i cancelled in July and yet they will not refund the charges for services I NEVER USED. Close to $200. I had to close out my bank account to get them to stop charging me and they refuse to refund my money. PAYPAL is a superior service and i've never had one issue and is cheaper than Merchant one. Cons: NOTHING GOOD ABOUT THIS COMPANY more

WOW Rip Off Stay Away 9/27/2009

I have to agree with the other poster. If you could give 0 starts then I would have. This company is the worst off all the credit card processors out there. They hide fees They don't deliver monthly statements when they enclose a fee hike They have bad and I say the worst customer service Save yourself the time, money and hassle, look at intuit, google, pay pal or others. This is the worst company to use for credit card processing and they have accounts with other complaint boards to keep the true reviews hidden. Pros: I learned a lesson Cons: hidden fees, bad customer service, dishonest, false more

Merchants BEWARE! 9/4/2009
