After reading the other review and it being the only one, I felt I should post my opinion. I have only used these guys a couple of times, but everything was done as they said, no overselling, no suprises. No missed diagnosis. Actually my boat was returned cleaner than it was when I took it over there, and the cost was less than the original quote. more

AVOID Meek's Marine 3/18/2008

The problem was my boats motor idle was climbing up once the motor got warm on a Yamaha 225hp 1998 outboard. The owner of Meek's, Steve, said it was my main computer and that the part cost $1060. I said that was a lot of money, so convince me that is definitely the problem. Well, he said it was a ""code 33"" on the diagnostic read out and that meant the main computer was down and needed to be replaced. I asked if there was anything else done to determine it was the problem, like checking the throttle position sensor, etc and he said, ""nope, nothing else needs to be done with a code 33, just replace the main computer. I got a second opinion. The new mechanic laughed and said that a ""code 33"" on that motor only means the motor is still warming up. That there is NO CODE that says the main computer is out. He said if it was a ""code 44"" which means the computer is processing and never got off of ""code 44"", then he would do a series of tests on various other sensors, wiring harnesses, etc and then by process of elimination could determine if the main computer was bad. I did not let Meek's work on my boat and brought it to the other mechanic to diagnose and repair. As it turned out, it was only one of the two thermostats that was stuck in the open position, thereby causing the engine to idle high because of a sensor feedback loop wanting to warm the engine. As you can imagine, I want everybody considering Meek's working on their boat to keep this story in mind, as it is 100% factual,. Meek's used to have a good reputation, but one of the service techs, Steve, bought the business and was definitely trying to rip me off. Beware of Meek's Marine as they may try to cheat you as they tried to cheat me. BEWARE OF MEEK'S MARINE. more
