AVOID 10/11/2013

Despite mixed reviews, my wife and I decided to give the place a try. As it turned out everybody's review was either right or wrong about everything.\r The female waitperson was great, she did everything right by us.\r The calamari can only be described as blasé, but not in a good way.\r My entree Saltimbocca alla Romana was quite alright, the veggi presentation superb. The "cutlet" provenance was "free range veal". I assume that means a calf that was allowed to walk around the corral, the flesh seemed to have a bit more texture than "conventional veal."\r This is where the experience starts to decline. I should begin by mentioning that the online menu dinner price for my plate is $18.95, the hard copy menu exhibits $21.00. My better half ordered what we were later informed was a new menu item, Bistecca/something!! It was an expensive experiment (the priciest entree on the menu) that she wishes she had not participated in. I noted that (she of typically robust appetite) was dawdl more

Love Mazzi's Food 8/19/2010

I've been going to Mazzi's since my days at the UofO. It's a great "date night" place. A good friend who was unable to attend my wedding took my wife and I to Mazzi's to celebrate; we toasted champagne on the patio and ate great food and dessert. It was an awesome night.\r \r Last time I was there, I discovered the bakery around back of the restaurant...had no idea they baked their own bread right there on site. The calzones and the fettuccini alfredo are my go-to dishes. My favorite Italian and Sicilian food place in the Eugene area! more

Mazzi's is where to go to celebrate! 8/14/2010

Mazzi's is a restaurant that my extended family has used for many years as a place to celebrate momentous occasions including graduations, weddings, anniversaries and birthdays. They're always very accommodating. The food and service are both spectacular. Plus, you can almost always find a coupon or special deal on their Facebook page or in the newspaper that makes the meal cheaper. I would highly recommend Mazzi's to anyone looking for great home-style Italian cooking. more

Mazzi's is deceptive. 7/24/2009

Worst service of my life. Was lied to, treated with disrespect and overcharged. I can only hope the waiter we had finds another profession that keeps him out of the public eye. Ruined our experience. more

Mazzi's 6/30/2009

This place is okay but nothing special. Can be a long wait on the weekends. The wait staff was very polite, and they have some nice dishes. Wine list is good. more

Bad Birthday Party 1/14/2009

I came to Mazzi's for a birthday party, which was a mistake! We had a party of 12, which was nice because they gave us a private room, but our waiter was terrible. He did not know the wine lists or could not offer any suggestions for items the restaurant was out of. We were only checked on once after our food arrived. At the end of the meal, much to our dismay, the Mazzi's wait staff/management refused to slit the bill so we could all pay on our respective cards. I personally was overcharged $85 on my tab alone. more

Best Calzones 12/6/2008

This is a great Italian place. There is usually a long wait and they don't take reservations so come early. The regular calzone is by far the best thing on the menu. It doesn't taste like your average calzone, more like an Italian pizza pie. They make their own dough for the calzones and their delicious hard rolls. more

Mazzi's 12/4/2008

This is a beautiful restaurant with vine covered outdoor seating in the warmer months ( and a little fountain) feels like little Italy. The food is fabulous. It is however, quite expensive. more

Not Just Pizza 11/19/2008

Mazzi's isn't just for pizza and it's a good thing because the pizza isn't that special. But they make a wonderful lasagna dish and other italian dishes. They're a little high priced but it's a nice romantic atmosphere for a special date and good food and wine. more

Friendly waitstaff, excellent atmosphere, great food. 11/17/2007

My wife took me here for my birthday, since I love Italian food. The food was excellent, though it seems to be slightly overpriced. The ambiance in the restaurant was very peaceful and makes those at your table feel as if they are the only ones there. Waitstaff is friendly and responsive.\r \r Our table, with the 2 of us, seemed to be a bit small for all the food they brought out to fit on. But the booths/other tables looked bigger. We came on what happened to be a busy night, so that may be part of it. more

Not My Meatball 6/21/2006

Maybe I'm a bit critical growing up in the North End of Boston, But when I took my wife to "Mazzi's" I was expecting a little more. All I heard since moving here was that Mazzi's is the place. Well they got that right, the place where the meatballs taste like meatloaf and the service was slow for an early Friday dinner crowd. My chicken was at best mediocre but definately better than the meatballs. Shame on you calling that an Italian meatball. Pros: Cozy feeling, friendly staff Cons: slow service, food doesn't taste very italian more
