Worst

The food was bad, the service was bad. The only thing that was good was the Margaritas.

Fantastic Mexican 6/19/2005

Maya is one of the best mexican restaurants I've been to in the city. It's very upscale, but still fun to go to. The food is delicious as are the specialty drinks. It is on the pricey side so for those on a budget it is a little difficult to go when it's not a special occasion or on somebody else's tab. more

Not your ordinary taqueria 10/15/2004

New York has quite a number of high end mexican restaurants (Zarela, Rosa Mexicano) and Maya is comparable to both those older, more venerable institutions. The decor is clever and unusual (chunky wooden and rattan chairs, tropical fruits or flowers as centerpieces) and the menu adventurous without being overreaching or odd. A little extravagant to turn to on a weekday night, but an excellent choice if you want to meet friends in this neighborhood. more

High End Mexican for High End Prices 9/14/2004

This ain't no taqueria baby! Maya is delicious, beautifully presented, high end Mexican food. But you do pay for the taste sensations. Expect to spend $35-40 person before drinks. A little out of our normal budget range, but when my parents are in town... One other potential upside or downside to mention (depending on your perspective): it's a loud and singles feeling environment. But then again, so is much of New York. more
