If I Could Go Here Every Day and Not Get Fat...... :) 9/12/2009

I first went to Max Brenner's in Israel. I think I had so many sweets that I thought I was going to throwup! The plan was to eat lunch there and then go to the beach- that changed quickly when I realized I would probably be harpooned upon setting foot onto the sand! When I got home from Israel, I immediately looked on the Max Brenner's website to find out what other locations they had. I was so happy when I found that they had restaurants in NY!!! Needless to say, I've been to them multiple times since then! My favorite dessert, which they have since done away with, was called the Chocolate Mess. Like it's title suggests, it's a mess of chocolate cake, icecream, whipped cream, sprinkles, little pieces of chocolate, etc, etc. Their chocolate is amazing and I would highly recommend this place to anyone and everyone! I'm sure kids would get a kick out of the place (pipes over your head with chocolate, big mixers with melted chocolate, huge chocolate bars everywhere!) Pros: Amazing Desserts, Decent Food Cons: Loud, Busy, Expensive more

Still better chocolate places in the city 5/26/2009

I heard a lot about Max Brenners so I decided to go, but I didnt think it was as good as personal favorite, my Chocolate Bar... still the best chocolate and desserts in town!! more

Great food+incredible desserts=one heck of a night. 4/20/2009

You come in expecting a great meal, atmosphere, and service, and, you get it. The presentation of each item on the menu makes you not want to mess up its display. Pretty fair prices, but all worth it at the end. A great place to take a date or a bunch of friends. more

Delicious dessert destination! 2/27/2009

So it?s crowded & there?s a wait here (20 mins on weekend evening) but it?s so worthwhile for chocolate-lovers to visit for the pure emphasis on all things CHOCOLATE! My husband & I split a salad (very good but not exceptionally notable or anything like that), then we had the chocolate fondue for 2 ? you get your choice of milk, dark or white chocolate (we got dark & milk), plus they give you caramel sauce, assorted dippables (marshmallows, banana bread & fruit) & a little thing to toast your marshmallows. It was so fun to do & so delectably tasty!! I could?ve easily used more stuff to dip (probably a good idea that we ran outta stuff to dip when we did, it gave me a cut-off point, LOL). Be careful if you order a hot tea, as the cups don?t get hot outside ? which is better for gripping but that doesn?t give you an idea of how hot one?s beverages really are (I burned my tongue). Service was very nice & accommodating. Most of the tables are far away from the mobbed doorway, which helps you to focus on your escape into chocolate bliss! I?m looking forward to trying more stuff here but the fondue was so awesome that I?m not sure I could order something else here for a while?! Pros: CHOCOLATE!!! Accomodating staff, wide selection Cons: Not-surprising wait/crowds, wide selection (hard to choose what to order LOL) more

Thumbs Up by the Chocoholic! 1/6/2009

Yeah, there might be lots of tourists. But we don't care. As chocolate lovers we could not resist. Pros: DESSERTS Cons: Some of the menu items were just okay more

Best place for every chocolate lover 10/15/2008

I first went there with a few friends. it was suggested by one of my friends and he said, "" you would Looove it!"" and when i first entered, I felt like a kid again with the chocolate that was being made in the barrels, the little chocolate shop they had and the huge tubes up towards the ceiling with so called ""chocolate"" flowing through it. I ordered a wonderful warm waffle dish served with two 1 scoops milk chocolate and Vanilla of my choice, a Chocolate shot and little chocolate wafer - like pearls and a classic Shake. Everything was Delicious. This Place is Absolutely Perfect for Every Chocolate Lover. more

Great desserts. 9/27/2008

Great deserts, the chocolate soup is my fave. I've only had the veggie burger off their food menu, which was great, but just the smells in this place is enough to go there. Only problem is it's always crowded and the seating is pretty tight. Overall, it's great. Pros: Desserts! Cons: Seating more

Basically...Good desserts, but bad food otherwise 5/29/2008

If you love chocolate just as much as Augustus Gloop (the chubby kid in ""Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory"" kicked out for drinking out of Wonka's chocolate river)...then this is the place for you. It's usually busy and you can expect a wait to be seated, especially on weekends. Food wasn't too good, my pasta dish came out dry and lacked decent flavor; also my friend's burger was way overcooked. The service was also average but I can forgive them for that to some extent because it's a bit hectic in there. For dessert we got hot chocolates, cakes, and cookies and we enjoyed them all. The chocolate is strong but very good, just don't eat way too much of it (laughs). Pros: Great desserts Cons: Disappointing entrees more

good food, poor management 4/20/2008

We were there on Sat night. Great food, BUT... very poor management (Karen, are you reading this). We were told that the seats at the bar were NOT first come first serve?! We had to wait half an hour while there were bar chairs available just because Karen did not know her job. When we asked for the woman's name it turned out that on top of everything she was a manager!!! Make sure if you see a chair at the bar you take it, they are for anyone any time! (Max's dirty little secret) If you chose to go there not only will you wait (they do not take reservations after 8 pm, very smart) which will be ok but you get to wait in the walk way and have nowhere to move and stay out f the way. more

Chocoholics Only! 3/31/2008

I've been to Max Brenner twice. It is definitely delicious, but you really need to be a chocoholic to enjoy it, and even then you might still be a little taken aback by just how sweet everything is. The Chocolate Mess was tasty the first time I went, but even for me it was too much. You're better off with cakes like the Intense Double Chocolate Fudge Cake, which is phenomenal, or the tasty drinks like the Chocolate Chai. No doubt it is certainly fun and delicious, but it can be a little overwhelming, so choose wisely when you order. Pros: lots of choices, very good chocolate Cons: expensive, some of the stuff is actually too sweet more

Great Dessert Menu top with watery mouth chocolate. 3/31/2008

The food was great and the dessert was out of this world. Highly recommended the wait was not so bad, give or take an half an hour wait on a crowed day. Price was reasonable. more

Good, but Stingy 3/18/2008

You'd think you arrived in the land of liliput! The deserts are actually decent, but the portions are SO small!! Yet the bill is large!! So they have their proportions all wrong!! The chocolate alcoholic beverages are good! more

really poor service... 3/11/2008

I stopped in to get a Hot chocolate the other day. I asked two guys behind the coutner where the drink menu was and he pointed behind him. then i said I was looking for the EXTENDed DRINK MENU where it listed ALL of the different types of hotchocolate and they just shrugged and scratced their heads and said: we don't have one? NO? I saw it online.... ""I don't know.."" I finally found it next to the hostess and pick the drink i wanted. I showed them the menu so they could SEE that there was an actual menu and they just go frustrated. I ordered a drink and it was pretty good but the service is lousy. They treated me like I was from Mars or something asking for the MENU. Pros: Really nice fun place Cons: service is poor and the people that work there are very low class RUDE more

Native New York 2/24/2008

My husband and I have eaten at Max.'s three times. The first time was a great experience. The last two time have been very disappointing. Friends came to NY from San Francisco we went to Max and we waited a long time for our order to arrive. When it did it was incomplete. The manager refunded us our money as a result. This morning we went to Max for breakfast.. The store was not crowed since it was Sunday morning and we still waited 15 minutes for coffee and an additional 20 minutes for our very small and expensive meals. I got the smallest waffles in the world for 9 dollars. The chocolate is good. But save yourself the trouble. Get your chocolate to go. Great for dessert, terrible service, awful breakfast. Pros: Good Cholcoate and desserts Cons: Too long a await, terrible service Breakfast is awful. more

The Bald Man makes the Best Chocolate 2/22/2008

For chocolate lovers, this is chocolate heaven, everything and I mean everything is covered in chocolate. They even have delicious chocolate pizza, but the best is their 'Hazelnut Praline Crepes', out of this world good. Highly recommend it. Pros: Takes you to chocolate heaven Cons: Can be pricey and the wait can be horrendous at times (45-1hr on Fri., Sat., Sun.) and No Reservations are allowed, which stinks! more

Very BusY/Long Wait - Delicious chocolate, average dishes 2/18/2008

My first experience at the chocolate bald man was at Union Square on Feb. 15th (day after Valentine's). Pros: Chocolate Dishes/Drinks, Variety of Dishes, Ok prices Cons: Very Busy, Long Waits, Table to Table proximity (very close), average entrees more

Slow and Rude Customer Service, Good Chocolate 1/27/2008

The hostess had harassed my friends until 2 other people came (this happened within the time span of 10 minutes). This place couldn't bring my friends? and mine drinks for 30 minutes. They were able to bring the food with tap water though! Then the waiter keep saying sorry, but there were no drinks. We just wanted to leave, and the manager came over and was rude too us! He comes up with attitude to our table and says, ""I am not taking the cheesecake back...You guys can have it."" He gives us a stern look and walks away. We left his gummy cheesecake and left. It was awful and I'm never going to that place again! No chocolate is worth this sort of disrespect. Pros: Chocolate Cons: Awful Service more

AMAZING RESTAURANT 1/27/2008

If you are a chocolate lover, then this is most definitely the place for you. I have officially lost count of how many times I've been there, and every time, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience. The staff is very friendly, and if you have no idea what to have, asking them for their recommendations is a huge plus. They will not hesitate to tell you which is their favorite, and the reasons as to why. The food from the main menu has a lot of variety, so there is something for everyone, and it's all very good. And their dessert menu is AMAZING. I can tell you right now that you will have a tough time deciding what to have for dessert, because you are going to want to try them all. You might gain a few pounds, but trust me, it is so definitely worth the extra mile on the treadmill. Whatever you do, you MUST have dessert, if thats the only thing you have while there. Your experience won't be complete without it. It's a great place to go eat, whether on a date or with friends, and it's very affordable. You have to try it. You will not regret it at all. Pros: Affordable, Absolutely Delicious Cons: Gets a little crowded after 5 more
