Big let down 4/15/2007

Typically I think it's important and our responsibility to support all the locally owned places in any the twin cities. Matty B's is no exception. The atmostphere and industrial decor is awesome and very hip, but the service and value of what you get is enough to keep me in the suburbs. My group included 6 people. We wanted to have dinner and a few drinks after going to an event at 'The Depot' in Mpls. When we first asked for a table for six, you would have thought this was an odd request. Ordering drinks was painful. We got the six drinks after three different trips to the bar. She would bring back two at a time with a 3 - 5 minute wait between trips. We ordered the chip-n-salsa-guac for the table. We were almost laughing when we realized that after our 15 plus minute wait for the appetizer, we were required to mix the ingrediants together, at our table....new experience for me. For the amount of money they charge, I would think a finished product could be available. Would I go back to this place? Not likely. Fortunately downtown Mpls has so many great places to offer people. I hate to be 'down' on a local establishment, but with the price of gas what it is, I want to be satisfied with my purchases all the time! Pros: great location Cons: service was lacking, food expensive more

Confused about the hype 4/10/2007

I am trying to figure out the good reviews on here. My first experience was this... I paid $11 for a bacon cheesburger with cottage cheese. I waited about 45 minutes. (the place was not busy by any means). Now if my burger was good I could justify the price. Yes, items are under $30. But there are even fewer items (with less food) for under $8. And the breakfast items must by laced with gold or they fly in a chef from NY every weekend. $5 for oatmeal!? Please! Go to your nearest suburb and enjoy the Granite City all you can eat breakfast buffet. It's amazing! Another place that if the Dome and Guthrie weren't close by it would dry up. I haven't seen people flocking there to drop a load of cash unless they are forced to. Pros: Location Cons: Expensive for the food quality and portion size more

Excellent restaurant for small or large groups of friends. Perfect place for dinner conversation! 1/2/2007

This is a great place! Relaxed, yet classy in an industrial setting, we have now enjoyed dinner at Matty B's twice and without question, will return. The location is excellent for many downtown events and there is ample, inexpensive parking to the rear of the restaurant. The restaurant itself is tastefully decorated in an industrial style. It is comfortable, the service is very good and the food is excellent. Menu items range from reasonably priced sandwiches to slightly expensive main entres, which are very well prepared. Special requests seem to be taken in stride. There may be music playing or there could be a local football game on the numerous flatscreens; regardless of the entertainment, volume is such that dinner conversation is never interrupted, which makes it perfect for a gathering of friends before going elsewhere or, as has been our case, after Friday cocktails. This is a very nice place you will not be sorry to have tried! Pros: Atmosphere and food are both excellent Cons: Main entres may be a bit on the high-end costwise but overall a solid value. more

  • In Short
This riverfront hangout makes the most of its renovated-warehouse space with gobs of tables, booths and elbow room. Velvet drapery, rich wood and a stainless steel bar add a chic factor--as do the many posh patrons swilling specialty cocktails. The soup/sandwich/burger-oriented menu draws downtown professionals with swanky touches like gruyere-smothered French onion soup while a Top 40 DJ and great drink specials beckon an upscale party crowd on weekends.
