Owner is a Pest and Way too Pushy 10/2/2011

Ok the food is good if you can stand being harrassed by the Owner/Manager (Chinese Man) who rudely interrupts the waitress to take your order. He leans on your table and talks over your food, violating your space. Soo close he is spitting on your food when he is talking to you. I order the Texas Crab Rangoon appetizer and everytime he tells me ""dip in more sauce"" like demanding me.. and it's like back off and let me eat. He is very rude to his wait staff constantly barging his way into their conversations with customers. I love this food but as long as he is around it is a huge thumbs down !!!! He needs to be told off ! more

THE BEST SUSHI EVER!...WONDERFUL PLACE!!! 9/2/2011

MY WIFE AND I GO THERE AT LEAST ONCE A MONTH. THE DRAGON ROLL AND ROLLS ROLL ARE OUR FAVORITES. THE MANAGER IS GREAT THE PEOPLE ARE GREAT AND THEY ARE NOT PAYING ME TO SAY ALL THIS. I'M A REGULAR CUSTOMER AND DON'T THINK PEOPLE SHOULD TALK BAD ABOUT OUR FAVORITE RESTAURANT NOT ANY OTHER RESTAURANT, ESPECIALLY IT'S THE WAY PEOPLE NEED TO MAKE A LIVING. I WILL DEFEND THEM. EVERYONE MUST GO. YOU WILL MISS OUT! more

Never Again! 9/6/2009

Me & my girlfriend are just coming back from that place and we are very dissapointed in this restaurant. We went home from Ikea and thought we go to a Restaurant on Westheimer. We both had appetite for Sushi and passed that place. It didnt look very welcoming from the outside. very dark place and no cars in front of it. We should have followed our instincts and leave but we thought we give it a shot. The lady who served us bearly couldn't understand me nor my girlfriend when we asked her simple questions about the food. My girlfriend told her it's okay and ordered something she didn't even wanted to at the first place. However, we were hungry and didnt wanna wait any longer. We ordered some sushi plates, coming with a salad and soup (people who been there know what I'm talking about). The salad as well as the soup were as bad as the service we got. We always had to ask the waitress to refill our drinks. Oh ya - the restaurant was empty and 4 other waiters were sitting there watching TV. The sushi was made pretty fast, no complains at the first place. However, once we tried the first piece of each kind we both thought that he could have spend some more time, creating our food. It was just bad. The spicy tuna as well as california roll tasted like the food was laying there all day long. After we tried the first couple of pieces each we decided to give it back and pay. Then they tried to charge us the full amount for both plates. We told them that we bearly touched their food - obviously, since the full plates were still sitting in front of us and nobody thought about taking them. After she talked to the manager we got 50% off the full amount, which was still a joke, but why wasting your time. I wouldn't recommend that place to anybody and after reading the other 1-star reviews and mine I know why! Pros: Bad Service - Bad Food - High Prices more

feel offended by the waiter/boss 7/24/2009

As a Chinese customer, I was pleased to find the owner is a Chinese. However, he wasn't particularly helpful when we ordered. He tried to make a decision for us. He said one dish is ""no good. it's crushed..."". And the dish happened to be my favorite. He never uses the word ""i recommend"", but ""do this, not do that"". I don't know a waiter is supposed to do this to customers. I feel offended not because he makes recommendations, but he tries to fool us or treat us like a fool. The food is about the average we had before. Of course we will never come back again. Cons: bad service more

Worse management ever 6/2/2009

A True Disappointment in Customer Service 10/1/2008

In spite of the fact that Matsusaka's sushi is overpriced and only average in quality -- not outstanding like that of Ginza -- my daughter and I have been loyal customers ever since we moved to the West side of Houston nearly two years ago because they were conveniently located. Until last week, we ate there at least once a week and the bill was typically between $60 and over $100 each time (depending upon how many people were in our party). Furthermore, I have always made certain to tip above and beyond what etiquette requires. Pros: conveniently located if you live on the West side of Houston Cons: awful customer service -- owner is the WORST more

Best Sushi in Houston 1/11/2008

I have been to many different sushi restaruants in Houston, and this is the only one I keep going back to time and again. My wife and I are sushi lovers for sure and have never had a bad meal at Matsusaka. The qaulity of food is extraordinary, I do not think they are over priced, I have found other restaurants in Houston that serve much worse Sushi for more then Matsusaka. I highly recommend this restaruant to anyone that truely enjoys sushi, you will not regret it. Pros: Food, Parking, Service more

AWESOME! 12/14/2007

This place is awesome! I have been here more than 20 times and have never had a problem with service or a credit card charge. The sushi is always fresh and the hibachi tables are not to be missed. The lamb chops are incredible. Everyone I have brought here raves about it. WE LOVE THIS PLACE!! more

One of Houston's Best Japanese Restaurant 11/25/2006

The place has nice decoration, service was excellent, food - excellent quality, menu extensive selection (something for everyone). It is a bit pricey but very much worth it. I also tried their recommended Ocean Trout special sashimi, and it did melt in my mouth just like the salmon sashimi (my normal selection). No complaints. Been there several times this year with my family for special occasions and did not have the credit card problem. I would highly recommend this place. Pros: Quality of food and service. Cons: A bit pricey. more

do NOT go to this restaurant 3/28/2006

the fist time i went the sushi was good, the service was good, prices very high. the second time, we spent a lot of money ordering sushi which was good, i paid with my debit card and left..the restaurant charged me TWICE for my meal on two different days. i went to the restaurant to correct this charge, the manager refused saying they did not charge me twice and insisted that it was an error with my bank. my sister and i split the bill and my sister also had the same problem and we have different banks. also when i walked in, the server that served us told me that the same problem has happened with SEVERAL different customers. i paid good money TWICE for one meal...if you go here pay in cash, or if you use a card, check your records, they might be trying to get you Pros: food, parking Cons: management sucks, was charged twice, refused help more

Thoroughly Impressed 12/18/2005

Matsusaka, makes me want to eat more and more sushi. By far the best service. By far the best sushi. By far the best menu. On my first visit, I was thoroughly impressed by the wait staff's recommendations. It is was has kept me going back. more

Great ocean trout 11/24/2005

I went with a few friends and they seated and served us promptly. The owner suggested we try the oceant trout and it was great. It melted in my mouth so I had to order more. Good times, I'm going back for the ocean trout. Pros: parking, service, fresh more

Excellent Value 7/13/2005

I was first quite amazed by their menu, because it was both unique and very authentic Japanese coverage. But I was still quite skeptical since almost all of the 100+ Japanese restaurants in Houston are operated by folks that had never dined in Japan nor trained in Japan and I was not keeping my hope up. BOY... I was wrong. The food was excellent and tasted authentic. The Kobe beef and the lamb chops were very good. But it was the appetizers and the grilled seafood that really made our night. Service was good but I came here for the food and they delivered! WOW... I'll be back! more

Amazingingly great food! 2/19/2005

As a discriminating sushi fan I have stuck to the same sushi restaurant for years, having never found anything better. Wow - was I surprised! This place has incredible food, the Dynamite bowl was so rich it had to be shared, and the sushi was thick, fresh and melted like butter. Being newly opened they sadly ran out of some staples like yellowtail and Kirin, but they had wonderful toro which we ordered as sashimi. The Magnolia roll was yummy and the service wonderful. A bit pricey - but Highly recommended. Pros: Food, Ambience, Service Cons: Bit pricey more

Amazing Sushi! 2/8/2005

Trust me when I say this is the BEST sushi in TX. I'm a little biased bc the Sushi Chef, Masa is a friend. But I can tell you he is a Master Chef, trained in Japan (how many of those in TX?). He picks only the BEST QUALITY fish and his sushi is made with 30 years of expertise behind it. AND it's yummy! Already, his old fans from Dallas are visiting Houston just to eat his food. No offense, but if you don't like his Sushi, you don't know what you're talking about. And if you want pre-prepared, pre-cut, pre-frozen fish, then by all means go somewhere cheaper! This is the best, best, best- and thats my UNBIASED view!. Sit at the bar and ask for Masa! Pros: Sushi, Sushi, Sushi more

Disappointed 2/5/2005

I am a sushi lover so I wanted to try this new place, but I am highly disappointed. Price is too high, and food quality is low: sushi was not well rolled, edamame was not fresh, and sashimi had too much wasabe. However, the worst part was the service. Our waiter was very rude, we never got drink refills, and it too forever to get any service. I live right around the corner, but I will rather drive to any other place. I will never go back there. Cons: Too Expensive, Poor Quality, Bad Service more
