Masala Indian Cuisine

This is an intimate and quiet restaurant with thoughtful decor. The food is excellent and tastes very fresh and well spiced. Food is made to order and can be mildly spiced to spicy depending on your preferences. Service is usually attentive and speedy. My personal favorites are the Chicken Madras, a comfortingly sweet coconut and raisin concoction if ordered mild and intensely spicy if not; also the Palak Paneer is deliciously creamy and satisfying. I find myself craving their food more often than Id like to admit, luckily their prices are comparable to Naan n Curry around the corner but the pace of this spot is considerably less hectic. The crunchy texture, grilled flavor and hot temperature of the garlic naan was superb. Not greasy and dull. The chicken curry was packed with flavor and juiciness, no pool of oil floating on the top. The chicken texture- soft...like butter, done to perfection. Wonderful selection of vegetarian items. I've eaten Indian food my entire life; my Burmese father lived in India and cooks Indian food. Masala's style is more upscale, thus the slightly more expensive price. I have eaten at other Indian restaurants in the Inner Sunset and can vouch that Masala's cuisine is exquisite. The real deal. The parking is atrocious. The service was slow on a weeknight. despite few people in the restaurant. Still highly recommended due to the high food quality. The food is very good with many choices available. It was a very clean restaurant with friendly waiters although the food is a little pricey. Maybe having the lunch buffet would be a better alternative on your wallet. I also tried a new Indian beer called Himalayan Blue on the recommendation of the manager and it was a very good beer. I got home from work with one thought in my mind. Indian food. Lots of Indian food. Luckily there was a place down the street from me, and I headed over there, determined to find a great meal. I did. Knowing typical Indian portions are small, I ordered two dishes and some na'an bread. The na'an bread is as good or better than Shalimar down on Jones. The Rhogan Josh and other dish I had were amazing. You can see from the start though, on the menu that the meal will not be cheap. Masala is a great option for indian. The food is good, with plenty of vegetarian choices, AND the dining room is actually nice, which can't be said. This cannot be said of some of the other indian spots I've been so in the city. I'd recommend masala for indian any day over the others. more
