HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT 3/11/2012

On our 22nd honeymoon, we used the ""SpaScape"" package - $499 - on March 10, 2012, which was to include 1 night's accomodation, two full hour massages, sauna, dinner and breakfast. My wife received an excellent massage from Anthony; my own massage was the poorest I have ever received. The spa room was closet-sized, and the floor creaked like a haunted house every time the masseuse moved - which was anything but ""soothing"". The dinner was delicious, but it didn't come with ANY beverage!!! My wife ordered iced tea, and I had diet coke - and we were told that we had to pay $7.50 for the drinks because ""drinks weren't in the package"". The waitress' service was great at first, but then we had to wait over 20 minutes after our entrees were cleared away before the desert arrived. And then another 10 after we finished desert to get our bill. So while planning on going across the street to see a movie after dinner, we ended up missing the start time. In the morning - NO HOT WATER in the shower. Unacceptable. We mentioned it to two different front desk people, and they actually responded ""yeah, that sometimes happens when people all get up at the same time"". I retorted - you are a HOTEL...people get up at the same time EVERY DAY. The desk staff there could not care less, and did absolutely nothing for our inconvenience. Lastly upon going to the breakfast, we were then informed that only a ""continental"" breakfast is part of the package (choice- a muffin OR a pastry), even though the brochure & website does not say this. We were then informed that we could order from the breakfast menu, and they would credit $5 from the package toward each order. EXCEPT here is the kicker - their continental is on the menu at $5.95 including coffee. We were credited $5....and we were ALSO charged $2 per person for coffee. This experience was EXCEPTIONALLY POOR, and we could never recommend this to anyone. Lastly, if you look at what we received ""a' la' carte"" from their price list - 2 massages at $100 each; the room on the bill shown at $99, two continental breakfasts at $6 each; the three course dinner at $28 for the salad an entree, plus maybe 7 each for dessert (dessert price not on their menu); that is $70 combined for dinner. That totals $382, plus whatever they charge for 10 minutes of sauna time. So their $499 ""package"" seems to be a rip-off. more

Mario's Corporate is Heartless 1/10/2012

Last year my husband bought me a gift card for a massage. Unfortunately, I ended up having a hysterectomy in the meantime and my card expired. Apparently, ""promotional"" gift cards expire in 6 months from the purchase date. I contacted the Medina, OH Mario's since that is where he purchased it to see if they would honor it. The woman was very nice, but said there was nothing she could do, but gave me corporate's number. She hoped they would help me since this was an extenuating circumstance. When I called the number, the woman that answered asked where she could direct the call and I told her what the story was. She was very nasty to me and told me they don't honor expired cards. I said that I understood, but this was an extenuating circumstance and she yelled at me saying, ""We DO NOT honor expired cards!"" She wouldn't even transfer me to someone else. I will never go back to a Mario's International Spa again. When I told my family what happened, my mom (who just got a gc for her b-day this week), said that she didn't even want to go there. I called the Medina location back and told her that if this was the way this company treats their customers we would not return there again! She was very apologetic and said she would do something if she could. For as much money as this company makes (and the money my hubby already spent) you would think that they would understand that this was not just because I flaked out and misplaced the card. I had a major surgery! We won't be spending money at this heartless company again! more

I wouldn't send my dog to this salon 7/29/2009

Bad service and rude staff. When I needed to talk with management, even the guy answering the phones was rude and refused to put me in contact with management. I wouldn't send my worst enemy to this place. Ignore the hype. This place stinks. Cons: see below more

The Best Massage Ever!!! 10/18/2007

A friend gave me her gift voucher for Mario's Int Spa because she was moving out of town and could not use it, what a blessing in disguise. I used it for a 1 hour massage at the Mario's in the Fairlawn Wellness Center, what a fantastic gift I gave myself !!!!! I was treated like royalty by the whole staff anything that I asked for I believe they would have made sure that I received it. Pros: highly skilled staff more

Worst haircut of my life 7/3/2007

Do not get a haircut here under any circumstances. The stylist totally disregarded what I asked for and ruined my hair. On top of it all, she accused me of not knowing what I was talking about when I specified what I needed. Every other stylist I've ever consulted has known exactly what I meant when I described the style I wanted. (I'm also an Ivy League grad and law student, so I consider myself to have a reasonably good command of the English language.) Unfortunately, I was only there because I travel a lot and I'm just in town briefly, but I really needed a trim--otherwise I would return and demand my money back. Cons: Very expensive, but terrible more

Not worth your time. 5/30/2007

I've been to several Mario's Spa locations for several different services. The pedicures are average and the women who give them sit and gossip with one another while doing your pedicure, which does not make for a relaxing experience. In Aurora, a very charming location, the massages are terrible. In fact, one full-body massage left me incredibly sore and bruised the next day. The facility could be nice, but is not kept up very well. The masseurs/masseuses use a nice lotion while massaging you, but they always add it into your hair and also use it to massage your face, so you leave with goopy white lotion that has greased your hair and a sticky mess on your face. Why they do this to your face when you have a body massage is something I will never understand. The staff is always confused about pricing and their website is horribly designed. Despite the convenience, I plan to never visit another Mario's again. Pros: cute location in Aurora, quick appointment booking. Cons: dirty, not relaxing, not enjoyable. more

Best pedicure I've had in years 9/5/2006

I wanted a pedicure right away and they were able to get me just what I wanted in a mere ten minutes. My pedicurist was friendly and the consummate professional. The lime-sugar scrub was aromatically therapeutic. A very relaxing and pleasant experience. I'm going to tell all of my friends in town about it! Pros: the staff's professionalism more
