Best

A good casual place for comfort food. The turkey sandwich with melted cheese always hits the spot for me.

What Happened To Mama's Cafe? 2/13/2011

Seriously, what happened to my beloved Mama's Cafe? Husband and I were there last night for dinner and everything was horrible. We ordered their famous fried mushrooms for appetizer, it was soggy. I ordered the Chicken Fried Chicken Salad, cucumbers were soggy and watery along with the my ""mixed greens"", the fried chicken pieces tasted like twice fried and burnt. Husband's burger came with two tone onion rings, combination of old and freshly made rings. Not to mention that our dinner took 30 mins from the kitchen to our table, yeah, salad and a burger. What's going on with my beloved locally owned Mama's cafe? Our waitstaff waas obviously studying for her collage courses as she seated herself at the big table in the back to study whatever she was studying and one of the kitchen staff kept coming out with his dirty apron to watch the basketball game. GIVE ME BACK THE MAMA'S CAFE I ONCE LOVED!!! more

Momma is failing the grade.... 7/9/2010

I have been going to Momma's Cafe for as long as I can remember. It has that ice house, Texadelphia, decor, with a usually packed house, especially in the mornings. The breakfast is by far the best. Its rare that I ever order anything buy the signature Huevos Hoffbrau; which is the best hangover grub in town. The service is hit and miss; one time i went and the waiter was amazing; he never wrote down our order, was friendly, fast, and remembered what everyone ordered. The next time I went the waiter forgot to put our order in, and we waited 30 minutes before she came back to our table only to blame it on the kitchen. Here is my problem with Momma's. It's ditry. It smells like a frat house after a weekend bash. Not as much of stale beer, but rather like dirty dish water. The games never work; the bathroom is nasty; and the back room had a dripping AC unit that fell right on the center of the dining table. Momma needs a super-clean; and i think this will get her back. The food is good however. Pros: Huevos Hoffbrau: Excellent hangover grub Cons: dirty, hit and miss service more

Can be better 5/17/2010

Food is fine, but the place can be better.the games are always broken and the bathroom is the worst more

Really good 2/11/2010

I got the huevos hofbrau and the texas twister burger cooked medium rare. The burger looked really interesting but wasn't quite so delicious. The patty was way too soft, and form shaped; but the huevoes hofbrau are absolutely phenomenal, queso covered migas hits the spot like none other. more

Don't go after twilight 3/22/2009

By day ,this place is ok. But it's like Jekyl and Hyde. After dark it's loud and the service is the worst in town. My group waited 30 minutes for a table (ok that was our choice), but we didn't choose to wait over an hour with no food. When I asked the server about our food, she was rude and loud. We left and will never go back. Mai's on Milam is much better. Pros: basic food, cheap Cons: Horrible evening service more

Confort Food At It's Best 7/7/2008

I can't say enough about Mama's! Pros: great prices, hearty portions, good home cookin Cons: the front dining room area can be cramped more

A good breakfast at a great price! 3/2/2008

Back in the late 70's and throughout the 80'swe use to go here regularly, but this AM I was a little disappointed. I got there a bout 9:30 on a Sun., which was perfect timing, sat right down. My waitress was a delightful young college girl, who was very attentive. The prices are terrific and with the exception of the chicken fried steak, everything was good. The steak was like a bath tub toy, orange and rubbery. But the hash browns, gravy and eggs were all done just right. The Bloody Mary had plenty of vodka and a nice celery salt/Old Bay rim. The Coconut Cream pie had Cool Whip topping, but was still very tasty and half the price of our favorite spots that use real whipped cream. It was good enough to earn a ""to go"" slice for my pregnant daughter, who has developed quite a fondness for the Coconut Cream pie over the last 9 months. Pros: prices, service, selections Cons: The chicken fried steak was orange and rubbery more

Spring Clean, I Will Return 8/21/2007

The food and service is usually great. However, after this weekend?s dining experience I will not return unless management thoroughly cleans the building. The windows were fully of flies, the blinds were covered in food, the menus were dirty and the bathrooms were more than unbearable. I wonder what the kitchen looks like and where the wait staff washes their hands? Pros: Service, Food Cons: Dirty, Dirty, Dirty!! more

After Hours Dining 8/20/2007

If you are looking for the 4 seasons--don't go here; however, if you are looking for a hot meal after 9pm it is practically the only game in the area. The grilled chicken breast and steamed broccoli are both healthy and satisfying. If you seek comfort food, the meat loaf has a spicey sauce and the mashed potatoes complement the main course. Ask for Tim to be your server--he is friendly without trying to be your new best friend and will remember you--and probably your preferences--the next time you come in. Pros: Open Late more

I make better food at home. 1/4/2007

I have eaten here several times at various times of the day, including late night. I am just not impressed at all with service or the food. I expected it to be really good (since I am from Louisiana and definitely appreciate some good fried food), but personally I think I make better food at home, including their breakfast selections. To me, nothing was seasoned very well. Kind of just bland. Plus, they don't have sweet tea. In the South, you expect some darn sweet tea with your comfort food! more

Best Flapjacks in Texas 5/29/2003

After a late night on the town and need some carbs to get through the night, you must have the pancakes with the delicious maple syrup. The syrup comes out hot so you need to puncture the ""film"" to get the flow going. They are awesome! more

Love this place! 12/30/2002

Value Seeker 11/26/2002

This is the place to get real home cookin' at a great price. Best value in town. Sorry I now live in Dallas and can't make it in to enjoy as much as I would like. Pros: Home cookin', Good price Cons: Parking lot too small, Waiting line more

Don't waist your time! 9/13/2002

I have eaten at this restaurant twice in the past month. Once on a weekend morning and the other was a weekday evening (10 pm). Both times I have experience slow and terrible service. I had two different waiters on both visits and they both did a terrible job, not even really caring. The food was just ok, but if you are concerned with service, you may think twice about eating here. Pros: price reasonable, open all night, grilled catfish good Cons: slow service, crowded on weekend, dirty atmosphere more

EGGS HAFBREAU!!! Yes! 9/10/2002

It's AWSOME! You have to try the Huevos Hafbreau. They are the best eggs in town!!!! more

Mama Needs a Bath! 8/13/2002

Yuck! The interior needed on overall SCRUB.....along with most of the servers! Ordering the ""Texas Burger"" is no difference from going to a school cafeteria. Cold buns, wilted lettuce, and a generous helping of TWO pickle slices! Don't go!! more
