Best Mexican food in NJ 8/14/2008

This is one of the best and most authentic Mexican Restaurants I have ever eaten at. Being in the Military I have traveled all over the world and tested local interpretations of Mexican food in various locations. This is by far my favorite. It was so good, in fact, that when I came home from Iraq I insisted this be the first restaurant I ate at because I had become such a fan before I left. The food is not greasy or drowned in spices or cheese (classic pitfalls of low quality Mexican food) but is well balanced, light and still manages to be delicious without being overpowering. The business is family owned and operated which helps create a friendly and welcoming environment and the service is always great. more

Best Mexican Food I've Ever Had! 4/30/2008

Mamacita's is by far the best mexican restaurant I have ever been too. The food tastes incredibly fresh, and you can even see them preparing it for you. You are welcomed by a friendly staff and a never ending bowl of chips and salsa that are to die for. Order the guacamole, and you will understand! Everything is made fresh, so once in a blue moon if the avacados aren't ripe you might be out of luck on the guac, but trust me it's worth either waiting for or coming back for!! My favorite appetizer is the nachos and crisps, as well as the chile con queso, i drizzle that over everything! My wife loves the mamacitas salads, which are healthy and fulfilling, while I usually get a combination of a burrito, tostada, and crispy taco. The rice and beans are never ending as well, just ask your server. The staff is extremely friendly and warm, they are usually young ladies who just want to appease the customers. The owner/cook is a warm woman who is always chatting with the regulars and even if she doesn't remember your name, she will remember your meal!! One time I had to leave on a long business trip and when I came back, she knowingly asked if I wanted my ""usual,"" which I was surprised that she remembered! I could go on and on about this place, just try it for yourself! You won't be let down, I'm sure you will become a regular too! If you can appreciate good, homemade, real mexican food, this is the place to go!! Pros: EVERYTHING more

Bland and Uninspiring 3/24/2008

I'm a little perplexed by the positive reviews. Maybe the people in Northern NJ don't have access to good Mexican food so anything is better than nothing. Personally, I went there with a friend and neither of us found the food very good. The chips were plain and the salsa uninspiring (tasted like it was out of a can). The meals were bland and for what you got, over priced. Add that to the 1950's Diner environment, and you have a place that I will not go back to. more

Best Authentic Mexican Food in NJ, the East Coast, maybe even the US 8/27/2006

We love Alex's handed-down family recipes: the homemade salsa, the homemade tortilla chips, the nachos, the gazpacho, the CCQ. We still order the same combination from our Fiesta Hut days. There's been a lot of talk about this other place and that being the best Mexican food in New Jersey. It's all nonsense. Mamacita's is the place to go if you truly value great Mexican food. I've traveled all over California extensively, I've lived in New Mexico, and I'm in Mexico several times a year. I am telling you, believe me, it doesn't get any better than this. \r \r Bring your own Cerveza or Wine. You'll have an Inexpensive meal in a fun, casual, slightly quirky atmosphere. It is a former ice cream parlor. But the family photos and serape on the blue convertible embedded in the walll have taken the place in a new direction. It's all part of the charm, but the best part, of course, is the GENUINE homecooked Mexican food. Pros: Genuine Mexican Food, cooked by Alex with her family recipes Cons: You probably won't have a doggy bag, you'd rather stuff yourself silly than leave anything on the plate more

Best Authentic Mexican 8/13/2006

This place is great!! I was a big Fiesta Hut (remember the trailer on Rt 4 in Paramus) and was crushed when they were forced to close to put up yet another McDonalds. I found this place by chance and was delighted to find Alex behind the counter!\r The food is great-try the jalapeno appetizer-and you can BYOB. The staff is friendly and the place is an old ice cream parlor updated tastefully. Get there early on a Friday night and prepare to be wowed!! Pros: everything is fresh and the portions are generous Cons: can get very crowded on the weekend nights more

best guacamole anywhere, food always fresh and healthy clean 7/6/2006

Causal pleasant atomsphere, friendly staff and great homemade food. Not your typical mexican food and very reasonably priced. Pros: Fresh food, healthy and great tasting Cons: Their guacamole is sooo good sometimes they run out! more
