Went to lunch with my realtor...I waited ten minutes to be seated...no one in restaurant. Ordered scampi and asked for NO Parmesan cheese. I get my order and there it was. I asked for another and she told me to just scrape it aside. Sorry but it was covered in a cheeseI do not like. My realto r ordered the same with angel pasta. They used spaghetti instead. .She told them to take hers back after taking three bites. There was no apologies or anything. I had to find my own silverware, ask for refills etc. I agree with the other reviews.Do not waste your hard earned money on such a sub par place. Amicos in Nolensville is where I will go next time. Also they close at 2 pm......\r ....\r more

We walked out... TERRIBLE management 3/4/2012

It's sad. This place has good food but the management is absolutely horrible. My wife and I have been several times and know that you have to wait a little longer for fresh pasta. Until this past Saturday... We arrived at 5:50 and stood up front for 15 minutes before someone even came up to seat us. They took our order at 6:10. At 7:20, our waiter (who couldn't care less) told us our food would be out soon (even though 3 tables who came in 30 minutes after us had their food and were ready to pay). We walked out at 7:38 without seeing any food. We won't be going back. Take my advice, don't waist your time at Mama Mia's. There are plenty of other good italian restaurants in town. more

Great food; horrible service 4/27/2011

Such a shame. Up until the entree everything was going great and we were talking about how we can't wait to come back. In the car on the way home, we were dumbfounded over the absolutely horrific decline in service. Credit where credit is due - the Italian food is amazing. Everything from the appetizer to the main course to the dessert to the coffee was perfection. But our waiter clearly didn't care. The real shame is they were so close to doing what businesses kill for - and so close to being a great business. But in the end, we left with a sour taste in our mouth from the unacceptable treatment. After being torn over what to do the decision was unanimous. None of us will be back. Life is too short, money too hard earned and there are many other great restaurants in Nashville with much better service. Case closed. more

Terrible Dining experience! Don't waste your time 1/24/2011

I have to say that after my experience this weekend I will never be returning to Mama Mia's! We went out there for a 29th birthday dinner for my girlfriends sister at 6 pm on saturday with a party of 6. As we walked through the door we were greeted by a tall, dark haired, and skinny male server who was completely rude to us and acted like it was a complete inconvenience that we were even there. He was very rude and informed us that we would not be able to sit down for at least an hour. As mama Mia's is completely disorganized and had nowhere to wait to be seated , we offered to go back to my girlfriends sisters house, which is around the corner to wait. They said they would call us when a table was ready. (By the way if they took reservations all this disorganization would be alleviated! However they do not unless you have eight in your party and they cannot even accommodate a party of 6 as I found out!)I have worked in the service industry for years and have never encountered anyone as a host who was as rude as this waiter/Host! Furthermore , this individual has waited on me before and he was always sub par, Never kept wine glasses full, lack of silverware when entrees arrived, not around to uncork wine when needed , took forever to greet the table , and on multiple occasions,I might add. To be honest I don't know how he even has a job! The other servers there are not much better either, so do not expect good service if you go here! He went so far on one occasion, to drop the check after we received our entrees because he said he needed to get out early to go downtown! Anyway, we were never called and went back to the restaurant after an hour and a half to be greeted by the owner who told us she had no idea what we were talking about when we told her that we had signed in in the book for a table at 6 . She noticed the mistake then . She did NOTHING to rectify the situation except say that we could wait another half an hour for a table! She even proceeded to sit a group right in front of us! This restaurant owner could have done something to appease our group of Mama Mia's regulars! I have bought gift certificates and referred people to the restaurant in the past because I always thought the food was decent for the price, even though service was sub-par!. The owners of this restaurant could care less about keeping anyone happy and would rather ruin my friends 29th birthday without offering any compensation for their mistake. I have never encountered this in my life! They should get a real manager to straighten that place out. Needless to say after we realized that the owner could have cared less she had screwed up, and after 2 hours of waiting, we went somewhere else (los arcos) and had a great dining experience. Thanks for ruining my friends 29th birthday because you and your staff are too incompetent to run a restaurant! Don't go to Mama Mia's unless you want to be treated very rudely, have very poor service, and possibly cold food as well.I will deter anyone I know from ever going back!! more

Terrible Service 1/24/2011

What a let down! We have been regulars at Mama Mia's for at least 3 years. The convenient location and byob option always made it a good dinner choice. Even though the service was usually sub-par, the yummy food made up for it. I really liked the lobster ravioli! Even a great lobster ravioli can't make up for the rude server/host that greeted us this past weekend. I feel bad for the young man, as he clearly does not have the people skills to excel in a customer service driven field. He was extremely short with us when we tried to leave our name for our party of 6 and acted like we were inconveniencing him . I could go on and on, but in short we won't ever go back...the poor service is more than anyone should have to endure...even for good Sicilian food. We also waited over an hour and a half for a table, then were told they had accidentally told another group they could have the table we were waiting for. The owner approached and offered no solution except that we wait for another table...approx. 30 min. As regular customers we were all very disappointed in the way we were treated and left immediately. more

WORST of Nashville - bring a hair net and bug spray 4/11/2010

My husband and I enjoy trying new restaurants and picked Mama Mia's for a Saturday date night - we had high hopes since it was voted 'Best of Nashville' for 2009. To our disappointment, there was a hair in our appetizer and a giant bug with 10 million legs crawling on the wall by our heads. We had to continually ask for water re-fills and our waiter wasn't attentive (rare for a family run establishment). Next time I drop $50+ bucks on sub-par Italian (without a wine list), I want it hair and bug free. I suppose that minus the run-in with the hair and bug, I would have given them 2 stars, but since the food wasn't that great on top of it, I feel 1 star is being very, very liberal. Pros: It's close to Back to Cuba Cafe - which is wonderful! Cons: mediocre food more

Great ambience and Excellent food 4/2/2010

This place was recommeded by a co-worker for it's great food at a reasonable price. He warned that it was easy to miss as it is a small building behind a gas station, but it was worth the search. White tablecloths, lit candles, and soft Italian music made it a nice romantic evening out. The food was excellent and made fresh. Excellent service, friendly wait staff. Will definitely do this again!! Pros: Interesting location, nice decor, really good food Cons: None that I can think of more

PATHETIC EXCUSE FOR A SICILIAN RESTAURANT 1/28/2010

There is nothing at all unique or special about this restaurant, except to say that one could find better food in a jar of Spaghetti-O's. The pasta was ordered al dente but came out slimy & soggy. The sauce was very sweet and tasted like it was prepared by a rank amateur. The amount of pasta served barely covered the bottom of the plate and the price for it all was ridiculous. When I stated I did not like the pasta and wished to just pay for the salad, I was charged $6.00. Needless to say I will not return to this place anytime soon. Full blame for this is poor management and certainly not Sicilian. The cooks in the rear all spoke Spanish. Not a pretty sight. Pros: Not Crowded decent ambiance & music Cons: Terrible food poor management & service; high prices more

Waste O' Money 12/8/2009

This was an awful experience. We started with the crab stuffed mushrooms which were luke warm and flavorless. The house salad dressing is weak. Try Joey's in Brentwood if you want a good olive oil and balsamic vinaigrette. The shells stuffed with spinach, cheese and sundried tomatoes were flavorless as well as luke warm. The Vodka plate was served with chewy prosciutto (instead of crunchy), a greasy sauce and flavorless basil. The service was also lacking. Our server never came to our table for more than a 3 second period and neglected to refill our waters. If you like plywood enclosures and flavorless-old-people food, this restaurant would be right for you. If this is what it is like in Sicily (as they boast so much about being true to the Sicilian style), I don't want to go. Pros: Ummmmm, $5 corking fee Cons: The eating experience more

fun night out with reasonable price and portions!! 10/4/2009

My Husband and I went there last night with a group of friends about 20, we were all seated promptly, the service was good and the food was well prepared, we brought our own bottle of wine and the corkage fee was only $5.00 dollars a bargin! Pros: BYOB, food quality, portion sizes, free parking Cons: 21% tip added to large parties, customary is 18% more

Decent food and at least it is not a chain 9/11/2009

The food at Mama Mia's is better than most of chains in the area. The setting is OK but seating is limited so expect to wait on weekends. The entr?es are the stars here. I had the Lobster ravioli, veal saltimbocca, etc.. All tasty but far from authentic or imaginative. They reuse the same 3 sauces for all of the dishes. The bread is like the stuff they give you at the Olive Garden which is to say it is like a hotdog bun and horrible. No self respecting Italian or Italian American would call the stuff good. The salads are OK I guess but lack the bitter greens that one would expect from an Italian restaurant. I guess if you are from Nashville and only have seen I-talians on TV you would think that is authentic. Pros: Decent food, can bring your own wine for $5 Cons: Seating, not authentic, bad bread, bad salads more

I'd rather go someplace else 7/12/2009

We heard a lot of good things about this place. Maybe we shouldn't have had too high expectations. The server wasn't that attentive, and the food took a while to get to our table even though it wasn't busy at all. Taste? not bad, but for the price they charge, I'll find someplace else to be full. It was our first time dining at Mama Mia, and it was the last time too. I doubt how clean their food could be. Kitchen was right next to the restroom. Pros: could be romantic, maybe. Cons: you have to go through kitchen to restroom?? more

Might be good food but.. unsanitary 3/20/2009

While Mama Mia's has beyond amazing Italian food, you should think twice about how it is being handled. Once again I will say no negative things about the food. Even though the people that own the restaurant are hard working, they do not know how to operate a sanitary restaurant. Having first hand knowledge of what goes on behind the scene it is not where it needs to be. The waiters & waitresses do not see it fit to thoroughly wash their hands before preparing any type of order. Some items are left over from the previous night and wait to be served the next day. How they're health score was a 92 I will never know. Also, the help does not give their main focus on the customers. People are waiting way too long to receive their checks and receipt in return. If you're looking for food that is extremely good, but not the most sanitary, then you have your spot. Pros: Amazing Italian Food Cons: The sanitation more

Truly the crown gem of Italian food in Nashville! 10/6/2008

I have nothing but good things to say about this restaurant's cuisine! I certainly have NEVER seen any health code issues as one couple wrote of in their summary of the place. I think it was just simply someone being vindictive because they weren't satisfied for whatever reason. I have been coming to the restaurant for years! The food is extraordinarily magnifico, the staff is friendly, though usually very busy. It's true there are some things that would make it a better ""total"" experience for dining, such as more parking, not having a ""cork fee"", and the orders being more expedient. But hey...it is what it is! Try getting faster service in a restaurant of this caliber in NYC or Chicago...it ain't gonna happen! Keep in mind the pricing and that it's a small restaurant...don't expect to get the same sort of service you would at the Palm or Antonio's which are greatly higher in price for food that's not as impressive. Pros: Best Italiano cuisine in Nashville! Cons: parking, preparation time, small restaurant more
