MEH! 8/24/2011

I was curious about this place after reading all the bad reviews and well lets just say the owners and management are rude and dont really care. The food is ok, I mean its not the most difficult cuisine in the food industry to master, but all in all I feel I wasted my time... more

Celebrity watching and Celebrity owners 1/2/2011

First of all you need to discount ALL the negative reviews regarding service. in the 10 years the Kitchen had been in business I have never witnessed any if these episodes of rude or disrespectful service. most of these people are on their cell phones when ordering and treat waitress's like servants there spoiled entitled Malibu snobs. Regardless, none of these reviewers can complain about the food which is fresh and delicious. it's down-home comfort food. the place is frequented by celebrities and is Seinfeld's favorite place. Insiders secret; the owners/investors are a who's who of the biggest celebrities in Malibu. more

Malibu Kitchen is superb 12/28/2010

Best place for lunch in Malibu by far. So good!! The Turkey Brie and Cranberry is all world and the Classic Meatloaf is amazing. more

No class 6/8/2010

I have to agree that the food is good. Though overpriced and beware of the varying prices from day to day. Can't trust what is listed on the board. I have lived in Malibu for 20 years and will go there in a pinch if I need a quick dinner solution. Pros: Food was good Cons: Horribly rude service, no class or manners more

DISGUSTING 3/20/2010

I have lived in Malibu for 20 years. I hate this place with a passion. Horribly rude service, unsanitary (there was a hair in my eggs), and just an all-around awful vibe. Support the local business by going to Johns Garden instead. I seriously HATE this place. Cons: everything more

fantastic food that gets a bad rap 2/22/2010

I just had to get on here and write a review of the Malibu Kitchen because it gets a bad rap on CitySearch. It has great food (some of the best in Malibu), and the atmosphere is absolutely incredible. The pulled pork sandwich, split pea soup, all the fresh salads, and the cookies are just a few of the great things I've sampled there. The atmosphere is homey and comfortable. The service... is what it is. If you go into the Malibu Kitchen, just go in with a very straightforward, no ""beating around the bush"" attitude. If you don't like it, you don't have to come back, but honestly, you may be a little too ""Malibu"" to really understand the charm of the place... and that's a damn shame. Pros: awesome food, great atmosphere Cons: prices a bit steep, ""low-context"" service more

Horrible Service 2/21/2010

The person behind the counter that served me was one of the biggest a holes I have ever met in my life. Afterwards, I asked someone eles who worked there and was told he was the owner and people often complain about the treatment they recieve. No need to get into the specifics, but all the comments about how rude he is are absolutely true. Obviously I will never eat there again. I agree, I hope they go out of business. Please save yourself the burdon of such a negative place, there are plenty of places nearby with great food that will be happy for your patronage. Pros: Okay food Cons: The owner is a rude, arrongant man more

Save yourself the hassle and go somewhere else 8/24/2009

I went in to this restaurant today for the first time. I work in Malibu and often eat lunch in other restaurants in the area. First of all, they don't carry pastrami, which is disturbing to find in a sandwich place. I ordered the turkey and the price on slip that they gave me wasn't the price listed on the board. I brought this up with the guy making sandwiches and he said that the sign was for decoration only. I told him that they are required to give me the price listed. He brought in the manager who refused to give me the posted price and told me I should go to Ralph's and get a *EXPLETIVE* sandwich. Pros: It's close to a lot of great restaurants that you can go to Cons: Horrible service more

Worst Service EVER! 2/1/2009

I live in Malibu and frequent many of the businesses in the Country Mart. These people are by far the worst. I have ordered the same sandwich 3 times and each time it was different. Their portions and quality are not consistent. I ordered a sandwich that was completely different from the fist time I ordered it and the guy behind the counter refused to change it or fix it. I hope they go out of business. Cons: Rude, Pricey, Inconsistent, Long wait for service, overall bad experience. more

Malibu Kitchen--Rudeness du Jour 12/7/2008

They keep people waiting forever with no apology. The manager is disrespectful and arrogant, totally lacking in people skills. How do people like this stay in business? No food is worth this kind of treatment. Avoid this place! John's Garden is better and they are efficient and friendly. Pros: Average food. Cons: Unbelievably rude staff, long wait even when you are the only one in line. more

Great Fast Meal 9/22/2008

Old Fashion country Deli was wonderful. Gourmet sandwiches to cheese bar to home made bakery goods. Pros: thumbs up more

Bad service, rude people working there! 9/5/2008

I went to get a sandwich was in line for more than 20 minutes no one asked me what I wanted. They had at least 4 employees behind the counter they were running around but no one said I'll help you as soon as I'm done... I left but that night talking with people that live in the area the comment they all had about that place is that they are extremely rude there. more

As close to home as Malibu can get 7/17/2008

Stepping into Malibu Kitchen is like stepping into a 50's general store, or a Cracker Barrel, or something like that. Whatever it is definitely very un-Malibu, in a good way. It feels like home when you step inside. The food is always fresh, and not to mention really affordable. Definitely a great place for Breakfast or lunch, it can get pretty hectic in there, and you might have a bit of wait for your food, but it's definitely worth it just to take the malibu stick out of your butt for 30 minutes or an hour, and feel at home. more

Great, namely in the summer. 2/20/2008

I love this restaurant. For one, the food is fantastic. They have anything and everything, and all of it is fresh. The people are so sweet and friendly, and the atmosphere is lovely, especially in the summertime. I love going there and eating lunch outside. Their prices are a bit steep, but I think that the food makes it worthwhile. I love that it's a combination of a restaurant/market, with something for everyone. I definitely see why this is still a popular place to eat. Grab something to go and eat it on the beach. Perfection. Pros: Ambience, Service, Food Cons: Seating, Parking (sometimes) more

A Malibu Must 7/29/2007

I love the down home country atmosphere. The owner as well as the employees are always friendly. I love the al freco area and the country like environment. The food is very good and they give you more than enough for one person. My only complaint is that the carrot cake cupcakes are so delicious!!! Even mouthwatering just to look at. I got my first one after years of staring at them and said that I was only going to eat a small portion of it. It was so good I sat outside and watched the shoppers coming and going. Next thing I knew I had eaten the whole Giant cupcake. I love the country store penny candy section. It has many of the great old timey kinds of candies such as Mary Jane, Caramel Cremes, Fire_Balls, BB Bats, Peppermint Patties, various gummy candies, and lots more. You can just open the jar and pick your favs! They have potato chips that you only find on the East Coast such as Wise although I did not see UTZ. But I still think Lays and Kettle Chips are the best and they have them both as well. The deli section serves NY Man sized portions not hidden in fru fru decorations. You get the real thing here. It's a wonderful place. It's one of my all time favoirtes in the area. more

We choose to go elsewhere 7/22/2007

When we visited, the man at the counter yelled at my very nice mother. She was standing in the wrong line after placing her order. I checked with the cashier and was told that he is the owner and he yells at people all the time. He was really out of line and mean. We choose not to support business that are run by mean people. There are many other places nearby that have very friendly people and excellent food (Marmalade). more

Best find in LA, deli, bakery, sandwhiches 7/17/2007

The Malibu Kitchen is a find in Malibu. From their fresh cuts, to sandwiches, to humongous cakes..everything is great. They even have BBQ and it's some of the best pulled pork I've ever had. If you are from the NE you will appreciate the Wise potato chips....and if you like good chocolate you will appreciate the selection of Cadbury. For any of you who frequent malibu beaches....make sure to stop here for to pick up lunch. Pros: Fresh food, tasty, cadbury chocolate selection Cons: far away more
