Terrible experience - would not go back 4/28/2007

Do not go this place for lunch. They just started opening for lunch on Saturdays and trust me, they are not prepared for this. The waitress had no idea what was on the menu, the menu was hand-written and there were only about 15 choices for meals (all chicken or beef). The drinks were cans of pop with a glass of ice and we got no refills on drinks during our entire visit. We had 5 people in our party and 2 of them got their meals while the other 3 got theirs 20 minutes later making for a very awkward situation. To top it all of - we were the ONLY people in the restaurant!!! The food was just ok - bland flavor and tough chicken - the fried plantanes were tasty but could have used a dipping sauce or something. Salads came with the meal and the waitress brough out two different types of dressing ( 2 little cups for the entire table), but never really asked us what we wanted. We did speak to the manager who didn't speak English very well and all he said was ""so sorry"" and took $5 off our bill which brought it down to $47 for the 5 of us. We would not go back - this was by far the worst dining experience ever! I gave it a 2 because the food was just ok. Pros: Not much Cons: Parking, service, food, price more

Eating like Kings 2/18/2007

This was my first visit to Machu Picchu. I had family visiting from Connecticut and California and wanted them to enjoy cuisine from their birthplace. Our party was a total of five individuals each with different tastes and love for international flavors. Machu Picchu's atmosphere was very pleasant. On the evening of our visit there was a live three piece band playing authentic ""Andean"" music. Pros: Live music Cons: Parking more

Great Lomo Saltado 9/17/2006

I have lived in Peru and visited five times. I think Pros: food Cons: value more

Avoid it at all costs 7/28/2006

As a peruvian, I myself completely ashamed of this restaurant, as a representative of peruvian cuisine. If you are looking into eating some delicious peruvian food, you are better off trying to befriend a peruvian and having dinner at their home. Pros: The food resembles peruvian cuisine Cons: Everything else more

Disappointed 4/13/2005

Our recent visit to Machu Picchu restaurant was a disappointment. After a recent trip to Peru, we were looking forward to some familiar favorites, but found none of them on the menu. The shrimp was very fishy tasting, excessively salty and overcooked, while the lomos saltados tasted like it came from a can, although the meat was very tender. On the good side, the staff was friendly and the Pisco Sours were just like we had in Peru. Pros: Friendly staff Cons: Food quality, Variety, Value more

All of our entrees were wonderful. There were plenty of fresh scallops, shrimps, mussels with all seafood dishes. One exception is the Chef's Special appetizer. It was basically a bunch of over-cooked breaded shrimps and fries. Pros: fresh seafood Cons: slow service more

What a Gem! 1/2/2003

Visited Machu Picchu with a friend recently and what a gem of a place! Their seafood paella was unbelievable! My friend had the halibut and it was also exceptional. The waitress was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. The wine list was small (mainly South American wines) but good, and the wines were very reasonably priced. The artwork inside the restaurant really adds a lot to the ambiance. If you are looking for a nice, quiet evening with exceptional food check out Machu Picchu. The food is incredible and it is very reasonably priced. Loved it! more

Excellent Food 12/20/2002

Machu Picchu has consistently excellent food, at least the saltados, the paella and the ceviches, which I order. Pros: food, service more

Fabulous Fish 9/9/2002

I've only been once, but can't wait to return. I had the breaded halibut, which was cooked perfectly and came with incredible black beans and rice. My boyfriend had the halibut special which was broiled in a fantastic red sauce that we dipped our bread in throughout the meal. Everything was wonderful, and there was enough left to take home for leftovers! Our waitress was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. The hostess/greeter was a little dull and unenthused, but our waitress made up for her. Pros: great food, wonderful black beans, good service Cons: pretty spendy, dull ambience more

Did I Miss Something 6/5/2002

Reading the reviews on this restaurant, I arrived expecting a fantastic dining experience. Instead I realized that everyone who works here must be spending their time at the keyboard typing reviews instead of in the kitchen creating interesting food. A particular disappointment was the Paella - the subject of raves in many of the reviews on this page. The two mussels and one clam were small and dry. Thhe crab legs, obviously frozen, were rubbery and tasteless. The shrimp were, well... shrimpy ~ so basically $20+ dollars for a plate of rice and a poor attempt at seafood. Machu Picchu is Mach-ado about nothing! more
