Pathetic 12/2/2002

I am a New Yorker who is familiar with Lutece. I was extremely disappointed with the caliber of the service, which made everything else terrible. One should not have to wait to be seated despite having reservations and one should not have to wait for the wine list. The service truly made the experience horrendous. more

A gem from New York 11/4/2002

The foie gras "signature dish." sauced with chocolate and orange marmalade, is truly remarkable. Try the Dover sole, with a wonderful light brown sauce, dressed with spinach and a tender young carrot and potato. The extensive wine list includes very good wines by the glass at reasonable prices. The service is more than excellent. The modern decor adds to the diners' pleasure. Pros: food, service, ambience more

  • The Scene
The restaurant design is extraordinary. Lutece epitomizes abstract modern with never a hint of austerity. Tall recessed vertical windows flank the exterior wall allowing individual tableside seating overlooking the Venetian canal, while the a curved wall gracefully maintains a sense of ascending movement. The ambience is ethereal yet intimate, opposites that exude a wondrous symmetry. A unique backdrop for a worthy meal.

    The Food
The many-paged wine list and an inspired a la carte menu highlights fresh fish and seafood in delectable sauces promising a dinner well out of the ordinary. Appetizers are savory delicacies, and a few together become a rich yet light meal-- mussels in white wine broth and apple wood smoked cod are delicious examples. Caviar and foie gras are also on the menu, naturally.
