Editorial review from Citysearch 12/15/2012

This place must have gone downhill in the last few years. Went there last night with a group for a Christmas party. The place looks very cool. \r \r We were seated at 7pm and orders taken. 20 to 30 minutes later were informed they had run out of Prime Rib. That's a ridiculous mistake at a restaurant that charges this much and touts itself as upscale. They substituted a steak of lesser quality. The head server seemed rushed and did not allow time to question the menu. One dark haired young lady sighed heavily whenever asked for water or bread. She referred to one diner as ""dude."" Very classy. \r \r Appetizers came quickly and then the wait began. Half the party were served their entrees about an hour later and it was at least another half hour until the rest were served. The steaks were good but the baked potatoes were cold. \r \r Everything is ala carte and you you don't get sides unless you pay. $5.00 for a baked potato that's cold. \r \r No one offered dessert. Our table had to ask but finally decided not to since it took so long to get your meals. While cleaning up the served dropped a knife on my wife's head, made a hasty apology and left. The bills were completely wrong and took three tries to get right. \r \r Not worth the drive and I won't make it again. Over priced for the quality of the food. Poor service. The ambiance doesn't begin to make up for it. more

Best Steak i have eaten in New Mexico 6/4/2010

I have been to the Luna Mansion 2 times since it has been reopened under new management. Both times me and my wife were seated immediately, and attended to graciously. There are various rooms with different decors and atmosphere. Our first dinner was the Porterhouse, it was huge! I had the Maytag wedge salad. First of all the steak was cooked perfectly and was so tender i hardly needed the knife. It was lightly flavored with an herb butter. I don't think i have ever had such a good steak in New Mexico. I can't comment on drinks as i do not drink but others there seemed to enjoy the selections of wine. There is a bar upstairs and live entertainment on occasion. I would recommend this Restaurant to anyone! Pros: Great service, Perfectly cooked food, Historic Site. Cons: Slightly pricey more

Good Food 1/2/2010

Was wondering how it would be after the new owvers took over. WHAT A GREAT DINNER!! Went over the holidays. 4 of us for dinner, two sirloins, two filets. All were cooked to perfection, very tasty. Drinks around plus an extra. Maytag salad was shared by two people with lip smacking comments about how fresh and tasty it was. Over all, great evening, after not going to the Mansion for a while, I will be returning often, telling all my local friends also! Great Job, Great Meal, Great Service. Pros: Wonderfully cooked steak Cons: still a little chilling in the house! more

Best Steaks in Town! 10/29/2009

The Mansion is under new ownership, and the pride \r in the gorgeous old place has been renewed!\r For the past few years I was not pleased with the food or service. Now, the difference is evident.\r The Mansion Steak was so tender and delicious,\r it reminded me of being back in the 80's when the Mansion was the place to see and be seen.\r If you are looking for a true steakhouse..This is it! Pros: Wonderful Steakhouse Cons: Lack of Vegetables more

Stay away from the prime rib 4/6/2008

For our anniversary we decided to revisit a favorite restaurant. We hadn't been there in a number of years and have fond memories of the excellant meals and good times we have had there in the past. The beautiful historic building had not changed but the minute you entered the door you could feel a definate change in the atmosphere from years past. There were very few people having a meal, where in the past you had to wait to get a seat on a Friday night. The waitstaff was very attentive and efficient. They were accomodating when I ordered my catfish prepared differently than was offered on the menu. But then we got our food. My husband had ordered prime rib, medium rare. As the plate was put on the table it was evident that it was not medium rare. Not wanting to complain, he tried to eat some of the meat. It was dry and overdone. The waitstaff agreed it was not what was ordered and took it back. Another plate arrived, this time the meat was still not medium rare but was also almost frozen. We ended up leaving without eating. For a restaurant that says the specialize in prime rib, and did in the past it was a very disappointing meal. But on the up side the waitstaff was great and the building is fasinating. Pros: Good service and beautiful historic building Cons: Poorly prepared food more

Great atmosphere and decor 3/31/2007

Thought I would do a newer review of the Luna mansion since the last 2 were in 2002. Since those reviews, it has new owners. We ate there last night were actually rather disappointed. They have revamped the menu, giving you fewer choices. I am big on grilled chicken and only one dinner offered it..with other meats in a medley dish. :( Gone are the homestyle menu items that we had come to love, like Green Chile Chicken potpie with puff pastry or the Southwest Meatloaf..Mmmm.. So I decided on Spaghetti and meatballs, my hubby had sirloin. Both were very good. Highly recommend the Green Chile Pork soup! Wonderful, but hot! :D For dessert we had Mud Pie which was an coffee ice cream cake with oreo crust and chocolate and caramel drizzle. yuum..\r \r But my how empty the place was. I remember when there was a wait to be seated..now there is definitely no wait..plenty of empty tables. Still, for our anniversary out, the atmosphere was elegant, and we had very attentive waiters. Service was great, water glasses and my Starbucks coffee were refilled, waitstaff was friendly (maybe because there wasnt many people to wait on?) If you've never been, I do recommend going at least once for the experience. As for us..we may wait awhile before we go again.. :) Pros: Decor and atmosphere, history of building Cons: Small menu choice, limited parking more

sure thing 7/30/2002

The host was gracious and courteous, always give you the table you want, and top notch food and service. The mansion has great pictures and a ghost that is seen fairly regular by patrons and employees. You have the freedom to roam through the mansion at your leisure and the patrons are cordial. The mansion is worth the drive! Pros: ghost, worth the wait, good service Cons: bad parking more
