Best

The decor of this diner-like restaurant is pretty eclectic and unusual. We had a really good meal, though....

Worst

My lord, this place sucks!!! The describe themselves as being a ""post hippie"" ""funkalicious"" restaurant, but what they actually are is a very pretentious, uncomfortable, ugly...

Funky cafe 1/4/2006

A fun little spot, especially for lunch. I personally like my breakfasts a lot more basic, but lots of creative a.m. items here. Most everything is highly and distinctly flavored--often in slightly unexpected ways (case in point a jambalaya that was very tasty but not in the usual spicy Cajun/Creole tradition). The Caribbean pumpkin soup is an abiding favorite, and they have a good variety of sides to accompany salads and main dishes, ranging from healthy options to sweet potato fries. Service is often excellent, though once it was so bad that they went onto my blacklist for several months. Great funky decor--collander light fixtures, found art, created sculpture, jolly ranchers at the door. more

Bad Art and Breakfast 8/18/2005

This is the perfect Evanston hideaway for breakfast. The restaurant is slightly off, but that's a good thing. The walls are filled with artwork that resembles garage sale rejects; you'll have fun deciding which painting is the most hideous. The food, however, is sublime, and service is excellent, too. Although they offer breakfast, lunch, and dinner, breakfast is the real reason to frequent this neighborhood treasure. Some organic choices liven up the menu. more

Ecclectic neighborhood diner 7/25/2005

Lucky Platter is an ecclectic neighborhood diner with food that's a step above and beyond a traditional diner menu. The decor is fun and frivolous, highlighted by tin-foil balls that cover the ceiling and tables that look that scrapbook covers. Bright and lively decor is completed by equally bright and lively dishes. The Tandori chicken salad is delicious, as is the carbbean pumpkin soup, Mexian polenta and vegetarian tangine. Also offers a variety of fish dishes, pizzas, and seasonal specials. The tomato soup, however, is ordinary and worth a pass. Cornbread accompanies meals at no cost, but you must request it. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are offered, but breakfast tends to be the busiest time. Great prices for near-gourmet-level cuisine, in a causal setting. more

A self-proclaimed ""sumptuous love nest,"" this place is comfy and cozy, with a found-art feel. Odd artwork adorns the walls, tinfoil balls dot the ceiling, and lighting makes...
