Drink here, Do NOT eat here.. 2/15/2010

My fiance and I had lunch there for valentines day. We both got the meat-pies. We both got sick. Very sick. Like, gut rot, sick. Our only conclusion is that we have food poisoning, because the meat in the pies was bad. It's been 24 hrs, and we both still feel nauseous and can't stray far from the bathroom. We'll never eat there again. Pros: Great bar. Friendly people. Cons: Bad food. Over-crowded. more

Horrible experience! 8/21/2009

I was at this place on a Friday afternoon for lunch with my buddies and was expecting this place to be as good as the reviews sound, but i was very disappointed. I order for a special and it came out with hair in it. When i asked the waitress to replace it for me, she got the same frigging dish without the hair and lied that the dish was completely remade. I knew it was the same dish because i had chipped out out a very small part of the fillet and it still looked the same when it came back. I guess i got unlucky at the Lucky Baldwin's Club. It was a nightmare, i will never go back to this place again and I DONT recommend it! Pros: Expert liers more

Great Selectionof BEER 6/22/2009

Good for a pint Pros: Friendly more

Yard House is much better! 12/6/2008

My boyfriend drags me with him to Lucky Baldwin's from time to time. It's ok once in a while, the food is just ok and the beer selection is great. However, the service is bad, it always feels dirty. My hair gets caught in the plastic lawn chairs outside because they are all cracked. Restrooms never have toilet paper (not to mentions they are filthy). There is always an old man sitting in the corner gawking at all the women. My bf tells me that he's the owner which I find hard to believe as I witnessed him slapping one of the waitress' on the butt. Strange. Pros: lots of beer selection Cons: everything else more

Best Local Pub/Dive 5/9/2008

my boyfriend actually recommended this place our on way back home from a trip. He's been going for years. We went in on a sunday afternoon and it was the best vibe. the game was on, there was a mix of twentysomethings, frou frou people, locals. Pretty relaxing. The service took little while at first but the servers know there stuff when it comes to drink recommendations and good conversation. I wouldnt strongly recommend the chicken pie (good but a bit too salty) but the fish and chips was tasty. Definintely try the Pig in a Blanket!! Beer recommendations would be the Craftsman Ale, Reinaert Flemish Amber Ale, Youngs Double Chocalate Stout. Not recommended: Lindeman Framboise (taste diety) . Overall - will definitely go again more

great beer selection, but poor service 3/14/2008

When my friends and I went here after work once, we got seats right at the bar. We were here to drink, so we assumed sitting at the bar would ensure our glasses were never empty. We soon learned that there is no way to get a beer quickly here. While the beer selection is great, we didn't try as many as we would have liked just because it was such a hassle to get the bartender's attention! And this wasn't a busy Saturday night: it was an average happy hour at a dive bar. An empty glass got no service, waving and saying ""excuse me"" received no response, it wasn't until we overheard the bartender's name and started calling that out that he would actually serve us. We were women who were being good patrons. There was no reason for the bartender to ignore us like he did. While I do love belgian beers and they have a large selection here, it is not enough to make me go back. Pros: beer selection Cons: awful service, kinda smells, poor food selection more

Good local bar 2/21/2008

When I first started going here, I will have to agree with some of the other reviewers that I noticed a smell similar to recently-cleaned-up-vomit. That used to be a problem but I actually haven't noticed it lately so maybe they took care of it. Even with the smell, it is still a nice little local bar with a large beer selection and good crowd on weekends. Definitely worth stopping by for a few drinks with friends if you are in the old town area. Pros: Beer selection, atmosphere more

Great beers, good food, poor service (at times) SMELLS LIKE V0MIT 8/22/2007

I have been here a 1/2 dozen times, and will probably keep going, because it is the best place to hoist a pint while the match is on. The food has been consistently good, the beers consistently excellent, but the service is spotty. My biggest complaint is the smell. The first few times I thought I arrived right after they 'cleaned' up from someone v0miting. I have since discovered it always smells like this. I *think* it might be some cleaner or combination they use, but what I don't get is how they don't do something about it. I bet there isn't one person there that doesn't agree it stinks, but no one complains? Weird. Pros: Location, Beer Selection, football on tv Cons: Smell, smell, dirtiest bathrooms I have seen since college, spotty service more

AVOID THIS SMELLING DIVE 8/10/2007

Lucky Baldwin's is far from lucky. Only go there if you do not want to have a good time. Besides the overwhelming smell of throw u p and BO that would even cause a maggot to hold its breath, the staff is far from helpful. Not only do they not wait on you, I had to chase them down more then once to get a drink, but they do not bring you the drinks you ordered. On top of that they are extremely arrogant and think that there bar is not a dive bar that smells beyond the stench of throw u p. The manager there is rude and should not work with people. He could not handle the fact that we were playing speed quarters and having fun. He so rudely came over and shut off the music to get us to stop when he asked the people surrounding us if we were bothering them, they all said no and to ?Play On?. We continued to play, until this time the manager was too chicken to come over and kindly ask us to stop that he had to send one of his monkey boys over to do it (BTW- every time they came over to tell us to stop, they never asked to refill our empty drinks). By this time tired of the smell of throw u p and unable to have a good time we left. Cons: Smells BAD more

great beer, good food, good people 5/5/2007

Lucky Baldwin's is by far the best place to stop for a drink in Old Town Pasadena. The beer selection is vast and delicious, and the bartenders and waitstaff are more than happy to guide you through some of the more exotic selections and help you choose a perfect pint. The food is quite good, also - try the meat pies, bangers and mash, and English breakfast. During their Belgian festival, they have quite a tasty menu of Belgian foods as well. The patio is quite pleasant and offers more legroom than the attractive but often crowded interior. Still, there's nothing about Lucky Baldwin's that I wouldn't recommend. Pros: Great beer, good food, good and friendly service, cozy interior, multiple TVs for sporting events Cons: Can get really crowded inside and out; Lock on one of the ladies' bathroom stalls has been broken for at least a year more

Smells like urine 9/17/2006

That says it all, doesn't it? If you get there early enough to sit outside you will be fine. It is a good place to have a beer. If you can't get a seat outside go elsewhere, it smells like urine inside. The other thing that turned me off was the fact that I had to hoist my slacks up to use the ladies room because there was so much liquid (I don't know what it was) on the floor. I may be a princess, I don't know, but I expect any place of business to feel and smell clean. I only go there to meet friends that insist on it. I am not a fan! Pros: great beer selection, close to other great old town bars Cons: smells like urine, unclean inside and out more

sit back and have a beer! 1/9/2006

lucky baldwin is a very relaxed bar that is all about the beer. they often have an IPA festival or other specials going on. if a pint is too much, order a half-pint. it's a favorite spot for many of us here so it fills up, but if you stick around, a table will usually open up. they also have a wide selection of english bar food-- i really like the fish and chips. Pros: beer, value, atmosphere more

On target 11/30/2005

GO!! Great beer selection, wine selection and food (corish pasties (order them)) Are you looking to chill with you're girlefrind or bros this is the place. A British pub in an Alley there is Out side and inside seating, also have a thirld level that seats about 10 and bring yer darts. Juke box is cool cassic stuff. Can be romantic on the weekday nights (smaller crowds). Pros: Not a ghetto crowd, Beer Selection, Food more

beer lover's heaven 9/14/2005

Great selection of belgians... Great selection from a local brewery (craftsman) which makes a wonderful amber, IPA and a very interesting belgian dubbel style loaded with sage. Also has a great selection of bottles. In theory, they don't offer tastes of taps, but we had one bartender who was very agreeable. He even opened a bottle of a belgian christmas ale they had on tap to make sure the draft was still good (we bought the bottle, but he wouldn't sell us the draft because it had died). Can't speak to the food. Best advice... strike up a converstation with the bartender, who won't steer you wrong. The inside dining area could use an air freshener. Pros: craftsman beer, draft beer, bottled beer more

Baldwin Alley 8/15/2005

Baldwins has an unique location, off a alley and in a former horse stable. Beer selection is from all over, belgium to ireland (that's all over right). Summertime is sweet with live music in the afternoons and taters and mash. The people who come her are after a respite from the commerce heavy colarado. It's a good place to hoist a pint and be friends. Pros: People, Beer + + +, Environ Cons: huh more

A beer lovers paradise 6/14/2005

If you know beer, this is the best place in L.A. to get one. Unlike most places that carry ""imports"" like Newcastle, and Heine, LB's carrys the best Belgians. From Piraat to Lucifer the beer here is remarkable. Especially in Feb. when they have their Belgian beer festival. A definate must for someone that appreciates great beer. more

good times 5/24/2005

I have been to Lucky Baldwins quite a few times. One time it was for my 25th birthday....got a bit loaded and had a great time and even convinced the waitress to slam a chocolate cake in my face (every mans dream). Another time was when Korea was playing Spain in the 2nd or 3rd round of the World Cup back in 2002. Korea cheated but it was still an enjoyable experience. The beers great, the place is chill. What else can you ask for? Pros: beer, futbol, beer Cons: no blood, no vodka, no blood more

Don't Blame Me For Ordering Off Your Menu! 5/14/2005

My fiance ordered a cider listed on the menu. The waitress wanders off. We wait. 15 minutes later, another waitress comes over, and in a very rude tone say: ""We don't carry that cider. We haven't carried that cider in years."" Her tone was so accusatory that we were taken aback. If you're out of something, fine. That's understandable and we'll order something else. But if you basically make it seem like you've never carried that item and we would have to be idiots to ask for it, though it's clearly advertised on your menu, well, that's just rude. Pros: Beer Selection Cons: Terrible Service, Rude Service more

An institution 10/24/2003

I've been coming to this place for the last four years (ever since I've moved to LA), and if you want to avoid the crappy dance clubs of Old Town, kick back and enjoy a cold beer, this is the place to go. Incredible beer selection, solid juke box, and Premier League on the tube, you can't go wrong. Pros: great beer selection, good mixed crowd, comfortable feel more

awesome place 7/23/2003

went there to hear good music and fell in love with the place! the patio area is just nice for a hot summer day in pasadena! Pros: inexpensive, great service more
