This place really should be called Kill A Pet. I have a salt water tank and am appalled at how the marine fish are cared for. The kids working there have no idea about any of the fish and have less of an idea of why the fish are always dying. The cages of animals there are not endearing and I suspect that many of the dogs that you will get there are puppy mill animals, although I have no proof. The prices they have on supplies are ridiculously high. If you are looking to buy a snake, iguana, etc then you can probably get a pretty good buy here but beyond that, I wouldn't go here for much of anything. more

Pet store 8/22/2005

I have not had a very good experience with Love A Pet in Broken Arrow. My parents bought my new puppy a few items, incuding a hardback book ($17.95) about this breed. Well, my daughter had already bought one, so I went to take the new one back to Love A Pet. I was told that even though I have the receipt, I couldn't return it - that it's their policy not to return books - even though it was bought 12 hours earlier and the spine wasn't even cracked. So I asked him how is someone to know that before they buy it - he (the manager) said that it was posted by the books. So I looked by the books, NO SIGN. When I pointed this out to him, he said "I'm sorry ma'am but we are not going to refund that book, it's our policy." I also noticed that on the receipt it said "No refunds of any kind on live animals after 3 days". Nothing about books. So I wrote the owner a letter explaining this to him, and left my phone number to call me. I don't know if the manager "misplaced" the letter or the owner doesn't care - but I never got a call and am stuck with a $20 book that I already have. I don't think that is very good business practice, and the manager was very unprofessional. I will never again take my business to Love A Pet. Not to mention their prices are high, and the puppies have 3'x3' cages that are filled with poo everytime I've been there. See my other post about Southern Ag - I would recommend going there instead (there is one in Broken Arrow also). more

Great fish AND Dog/Cat selection 8/1/2005

Love A Pet is one of the few stores in Tulsa that still sells live animals (besides fish). At any given time, they probably have ~20 puppies and 5-6 kittens of all different breeds. And they're surprisingly healthy, for having been kept in a pet store. The puppies/kittens are usually a little older than you'd get from an independent breeder... they won't take them until they've been eating solid food for at least 3-4 weeks. But if you have your heart set on a particular breed, they can find one for you, if they don't have a puppy in stock. They take good care of the animals, which is important to me. They're handled by the employees daily, so they're used to human contact. And of course, they also sell all sorts of pet supplies. But they're not quite as cheap as Petsmart. more

I'm definately an animal lover, so in all honesty, I just like browsing. If you're shopping for supplies, food, cages, etc., then you're in the right place. Same thing if you're buying fish, lizards, or small animals. But for cats and dogs, you're definately going to pay more here. I recommend looking in the local paper if that's what you want - this place charges an arm and a leg. more
