Editorial review from Citysearch 7/23/2012

I've had a really fun time at the happy hour all 3 times I've been. I guess it's my new favorite spot in the village. The drinks are great and the food is even better. It does get a little over crowded, but that's just to be expected at a place as upscale as this. more

Packed on Early Friday Nights 11/20/2010

It's been years since I have been here. I was surprised to see the lounge packed at 6:30 PM with the usual suspects--young doctors in scrubs, glammed out 30-somethings, and the conservative West U types. more

The White Pizza is a must try! 7/25/2009

The perfect place to start or end an evening in Rice Village. All the food is good but my personal favorite is the White Pizza. Good food, good ambiance. Pros: Next door to Kelvin Arms! Cons: None I can think of at the moment more

sorry place 5/8/2009

Binjy's over in Rice Village is nice and good. First of all they don't serve Heniken, wat the hell going on. Heniken is a upscale beer, my flavorite beer, ANTHONY BOUDAIN flavorite beer. But wat got to me the most was that they serve a BOWL OF SOUP WITH RIBEYE, and we order it. In vietnamese, this is call PHO and cost 3 to 5 buck at almost every vietnamese restaurant. Well Benjy thought they was so smart to copy something so simply and sell it for 22 buck and made it taste worse. I hope they realize that some American and all asian eat pho. Did Benjy think they invented that and think their customer is stupid. Get rid of the dumb popcorn. Alot of money went to this place, and I think alot of unique ideas should too. But hey how can u stay away when u see all the nice cars and ppl. Lifestyle of the rich and not so famous. hahhahaha Pros: girls Cons: bad place more

Best White Pizza in Houston! 2/15/2008

I LOVE Benjy's for the food, music and the fact that it's next door to the Kelvin Arm's! I always take out of town visitors to the Village for this little Oasis which is one of the few places you can actually walk in Houston without becoming a hood ornament! Good people in both establishments and one of the few parking lots where you won't get towed in Rice Village. Interesting mix of people from all over and you never know who you might run into. Pros: great atmosphere, food and drinks, great location Cons: closes early more

Good drinks 8/30/2007

I went during happy hour. It wasn't that crowded and the service was great. Ordered the pizza on the appetizers menu. I don't think I will ever order it again. Think crispy cardboard box with a lot of pizza sauce. I think the drinks helped me forget the quality of the pizza for the moment. Don't expect GREAT crabcakes. They are okay, nothing spectacular. The waitress was very attentive and pleasant. It's not a place to put on your must-do list for happy hour. Cons: pizza more

quaint chill lounge in rice village 11/20/2006

it's probably one of the few quaint spots in the rice village area where you can just lounge and chill without the loud music or loud crowds. the location is not bad: sitting on top of kelvin arms (if you want a beer run) and next to benjy's (if you get hungry). the side door entrance immediately creates a hole-in-the-wall feel without it actually being hole-in-the-wall; it's like discovering a secret door to a passageway and the end result is a pleasant surprise. the space is small and trendy, cozy enough for 2 or for a small group of friends...but it does get crowded and it'll be hard to find a nice cozy niche to relax. * Pros: small and cozy, romantic Cons: crowded more

It's okay... 11/19/2006

I went for the first time on Friday and don't have the desire to go back. There was a good mix of people if you like snobs. We shared our table with a few others and they weren't grateful at all, more like they expected it. I didn't care much for the music which was a steady beat of ??? They were playing better music in the restaurant. It was a little crowded so I will give the waitress some slack, but service was awful. After our first round of drinks, we ordered food and never got it, nor our second round, So we left and went elsewhere. The one thing I couldn't believe was how expensive the drinks were. If I would have gotten my second martini, I would have been a few dollars short from being able to buy a whole bottle or vodka at the store. I think I'll stay home next time. Cons: highway robbery for drinks and bad service more

Unreasonable Staff 9/22/2006

Cute place, nice atmosphere and tasty food, but they take their ""no seating incomplete parties"" to an unreasonable extreme. The last time I was here meeting friends for an early dinner on a Tuesday night (read the restaurant was empty save for 2 tables) and a wreck happened on 59 that made 2 of our party of 10 late. They held our table, but would not seat us and were very rude about it. Come on, the place was empty! It was so ridiculous that I won't go back there again. Pros: Fun Atmosphere, Good Food Cons: Weird Staff more

Rip off 9/10/2006

We left cash for our bar bill (which was a few dollars over the tip, which they had already included in the bill) on our table before leaving and when our friends got ready to pay their bill, the waitress told them that we didn't leave any money in with our tab. I can't tell you how humilating we were to be called and told we didn't pay our bar bill by our friends! Our friends had to pay the bar bill again (which was just under $100)! Sound like a place you want to go? Not us, we will never return to this place and will never recommend it to anyone! Something tells us our waitress was a little richer when she left that evening! Pros: Food was good Cons: Service was slow and they made us pay the bar bill twice! more

Great place! 7/2/2006

Cozy atmosphere, interesting, classy people, smooth service and convenient location. Nice patio if you can get to it. Highly recommended. more

FABULOUS!!! 12/18/2005

I absolutely loved Benjy's lounge! It's the perfect anytime place! Our glasses never dried out! The service was incredible! Definitely recommend!!! Pros: Great value, good drinks, wonderful service more

Serene and fun 4/24/2005

Benjy's is the perfect place to meet someone you haven't seen in a while. It's decorated well enough inside so that if the weather on the patio isn't good, you can chill with a martini in a hip atmosphere. Pros: Cool Decor, Nice, Clean crowd Cons: Kinda pricey drinks more

Hit or miss 3/21/2005

I've gone here a handful of times and had a different experience every time. One time it was completely dead. Another, it was packed with beautiful people. The next was a mix. The food is really good, and they serve a limited menu until late, good for those of us late night snackers. I love the decor and the crowd is usually classy, if not always cute. Pros: Classy, Great late night food, Atmosphere Cons: Hit or miss more

Benjy's Lounge 12/31/2003

It's a nice and cozy layout...when the crowd is not too large. On busy nights it's much too 'shoulder to shoulder'. Pros: Atmosphere, Deck Cons: Weekend crowds more

So this is a singles scene? 12/19/2003

Was there Sat 6-Dec-2003 right around midnight. The place is surprisingly small. Most of the tables were taken but overall the scene was subdued and seemed dead. This place is touted as a singles scene but I noticed only two women who appeared unattached. Most women there seemed high-class. If you're a guy, you better have all the goods (looks, appearance, smoothness) or else I don't think you'll have any luck meeting women at this place. Pros: Easy parking, high class clientele Cons: Small, snooty more

Hidden Gem 2/21/2003

This is the coolest little bar in Houston -- bar none! There are couches, club chairs, cocktail tables, and a great outdoor deck. It is hidden on the second floor of Benjy's Restaurant and is not completely crowded on weeknights. The drinks are great (full bar, lots of wines by the glass), the service is good, and the appetizers are fantastic. And... the people watching is always the best!! Pros: Wines by the Glass, Specialty Martinis, Appetizers Cons: It's small more
