Louis' is one of the best!! 9/25/2011

Depending on what you are looking for in a dinner, Louis' offers exceptional pizza with a low key atmosphere. While there are a few good sit down style pizzerias around Detroit , Louis' truly has the blue collar feel that makes up the backbone of our motor city. It's simple in the fact that there isn't a whole lot of fancy toppings. If you're looking for gourmet pizza sit home and temper yeast yourself. If you are looking for a quite place to go out to with a fantastic slice of pie and maybe a beer to wash it down, look no further than Louis'. I'm pretty sure that it is the cheese blend that sets Louis' apart from other Michigan style deep dish pies. It's hard to not dig into a second slice but good luck getting through it. So tasty, so filling. My daughters are the 4th generation of my family to enjoy Louis' great pizza and hopefully not the last. more

The best Pizza Then and the BEST Pizza Now 3/20/2011

Let me tell you Louis has been my favorite place to eat for 36 years!! Nothing has changed. No one can even come close to there awsome Anitpasta salad wtih the house dressing. Not to mention never in my life have I tasted Pizza sooo good. IF you can fit it in try there banana split drink OMG> LOVE LOVE LOVE IT> Louis please never change :) more

Loui's is the bomb and explodes 3 hours later 2/18/2011

Their pizza is not what it was in former years. It is now just white bread with sparse tomato sauce and an overload of cheese. The mushrooms are canned and everything seems pre-made. The salad I got was soggy and the lettuce was red from the beets it soaked in. The pizza was just luke warm, although it was just before 5pm. It tasted pre-made and warmed up. One last warning. The sidewalk is full of pot holes and is quite dangerous. The bomb comes three hours after you eat their pizza. Sorry, this train left the station. more

The crust it to die for!! 10/11/2010

I get so excited when I know Im going there. Im like a kid in a candy store. I cant stop smiling the whole way there. My husband just cracks up. Oh ya, their salads rock too. I went there last night and Im ready to go back tonight. lol more

The BEST pizza. Anywhere! 3/16/2010

I am a huge fan of pizza in general, but Louis serves the best I've ever had. I love Jets pizza, but this beats it everytime. It is way better than Buddy's. Visitors will love the atmosphere, the kind wait staff, the drink specials, the salads, and (most of all) the pizza. It is unique and delicious and cannot be topped by anyone. Pros: Delicious. Great atmosphere. Cons: Long waits. more

Amazinggggg 1/26/2010

I have no idea what is wrong with all of the people saying that Louis' gets worse every year. i have been going to louis' since i was just a little girl. I still go there all the time, and i still loveeeeeee it. Yeah the service might suck here and there, but the waitress' are always nice, pleasent, and make my time there worthwhile. I drive 45 minutes away to go to louis and i have never not been satisfied with my time tehre. I LOVE LOUIS' and i will continue to go there, THEY BETTER NOT CLOSE. they shouldd be voted best pizza in EASTERN MICHIGAN! Pros: Best SALAD=] Cons: nothingggg more

Best anywhere!! 12/21/2009

Louis' was my Dad's favorite place to eat so it only made sense that when he died and we had a luncheon after the funeral we would all go to Louis' and eat. We had the pizza which is the best anywhere and the antipasta salad which cannot be touched because it is so fantastic. All the family that came from neighboring states raved about the food. The service was outstanding!! I wish I lived in Michigan so that I could go back time and time again. Maybe they will open a place here in Louisville, KY or at least give me the recipe for that antipasta!!!! Unbelievable!!!! My family is all Italian and they were all incredibly impressed. Way to go Louis!!!!!!! Pros: Excellent food Cons: Too far from me more

What a surprise - Best Pizza I've Had. 11/11/2009

I read some of the reviews of 'bad service' etc. so I was expecting rude service with an ok pizza. Nope. The waitress greeted me within 1 minute of walking in. I placed an order to go: a small pizza. Got home, took 3 bites and had to create an account here just to let you know it's great pizza! I've tried pizza around the world (really) and I can not recall one that tasted in any way better than this. If you're in the area, check it out. Not for dieters. Easily the best pizza I've had in Michigan - sorry Pizza Papalis and the rest. Louis' is the best! Pros: Wow more

Not what it once was, but have no fear!!!! 11/3/2009

Once upon a time this was the place to go for detroit style Pizza, but no more. The service is awful. Very hit or miss. you could get served with either mediocre service, or spend hours there being totally ignored while having to send your food back at least once. How the mighty have fallen. BUT THERE IS HOPE!!!!! Shield's pizza and Buddy's pizza both still make great pizza, and to anyone that feels like their loyaties to Louie would be comprimised by going there I say NUTS! Louie started out at buddy's down by outer drive, then moved around the corner to shields, taking his recipe with him, before starting his own place over on van dyke. For another great detroit style deep dish pizza, try the Green Lantern at 12 mile and JohnR Pros: History Cons: Service and Food more

Changed for the worst 10/4/2009

I moved to Chicago a few years ago and even though Chicago is known for their great pizza there was nothing like Louie's from Detroit! Igrew up eating there with my family. So when I came back with my wife and her family I had to bring them to this place that I had talked about for years!!! Everyone was super excited especially me!! Much to my surprise it was nothing like I remembered!! It took them ten minutes to even greet our table and another ten minutes to get our drinks. Our waitress was more interested in the table of guys in the middle of the room!! It was like she wasn't even working but that she was partying along with the loud group. The pizza came and was very dry with no sauce on it. We sent it back and no one came over to even appologize for our inconvience. About two and a half hours later we finally headed out of there very upset and I was embarrassed. I had talked this place up so much and it was nothing like I had said. To top it all off when we were leaving the lady at the front of the restaurant gave us a card and told us to vote them number one in Detroit. Maybe we will vote them the number one restaurant for a big disappointment. I think next time we will just be going to Buddy's pizza. At least I know they will be concerned with our satisfaction! Pros: Salad is good Cons: Horrible waitstaff more

Use to be a great place for pizza 10/3/2009

The first time I had this pizza a few years ago I told everyone about it because it was definently the best!!! But over the last couple years I have left there very dissatissfied. The staff can be very rude and make sure you plan on being there for a while. We had to walk out before because the waitress never came back to our table. It is a quite expensive place for pizza so I would hope to be completely sattisfied. But if your not happy with the food or drinks they do not go by the rule of the customer is always right. I got wine there once and it tasted sour. I told them and the girl argued with me that other people have been drinking from it and it was just fine. Same thing happened today I called to tell them that my pizza had no sauce on it after ordering carry out (because we won't dine in there anymore!!) and he told me the guy who worked said he put sauce on all the pizzas. LOL!! The place acts like they are doing you a favor by making them their pizza. You would think during times like these where people can only eat out on the great occassion they would be more quick to make their customers happy. My family a long time returning customer will never go there again!! I'm sure in time alot of other people will feel that way. I wonder how much longer they will stay open??!! Pros: Good salad Cons: Gets worse and worse everytime we go there.. more

Best Pizza On earth 7/16/2009

I have been eating this pizza since I was like 6 or 7. Im 22 and I still love it. It even tastes good after a few days in the fridge. Definitely recommended. Pros: Simply the beast pizza I ever had. Cons: Long lines, Expensive more

This place ROCKS!!!! Skip comos - head over here instead!!!! 6/9/2009

My husband and I tried this place a few months back and we're hooked. The pizza is really good, antipasto is off the charts and even their spaghetti with meat sauce is awesome! If you're headed here for a family party or with kids - come early - this place fills up fast - but we think it's worth it. Parking is tricky - their lot fills up quickly after 6 - 7PM. Definitely worth the trip! Skip COMOS - head over here instead !!!!! Pros: Good pizza, pasta & price Cons: always busy , parking not great more

Louis - KING OF PIZZA in Metro Detroit! 5/11/2009

There's simply no comparison. Buddy's, Primo's, Shield's, Pizza Papalis - I intend no disrespect and you are all outstanding - but Louis' is the king! Pros: Pizza and antipasto salad Cons: Dine-in takes awhile more

Delicious! 3/23/2009

Every time I'm in Detroit, I make a point to stop in and have Louis' deep dish pizza and antipasto salad with their house dressing. Louis' pizza and antipasto is the best pizza in Detroit if not the world. It makes my mouth water just thinking about it. I find it amusing to read reviews from people who are only willing to try a place once and then judge it based on one experience. I have been enjoying Louis' Pizza for 35 years. I have experienced many different wait staff throughout that time. Like any restaurant, sometimes the staff is good, sometimes they are not - just like the customers and the tips they leave.... Pros: 50 years of making delicious pizza and antipasto Cons: It so good that the place is usually packed. more

Don't Be Fooled!!! 11/29/2008

We tried this place after seeing it was the best in Detroit for so long and I have come away extremely disappointed. The service was lousy and slow. The food was a greasy mess of sliding cheese and slimy ooze and the atmosphere was not one I would have taken my kids into. The pizza was overpriced for the quality and you could have gotten better food for a cheaper price by going to your local ""quick pizza"" joint. Unless this is your idea of 1st Class Detroit-style pizza - stay away. Pros: The Diet Coke was good. Cons: Pretty much everything else. more

nothing special 9/14/2008

Though our waitress was very nice, she did a poor job at the end of the evening, and we ended up leaving without our uneaten quarter pizza, because she never got around to asking us whether we wanted a box...in fact, we couldn't get her attention, she was having a grand old time laughing it up with a table in the middle of the room. Pros: fun family atmosphere, friendly staff Cons: bread basket andfood was generally unspectacular more

Best Antipasto Salad Ever!!!!! 7/3/2008

I absolutely love this place! THe house dresing on the antipasto is amazing! The portions are giant and the deep dish pizza is to die for. The place is small but what it lacks in square footage it makes up for in taste, portion, speed and friendliness. This is the kind of place you could bring your four crazy three year olds and make it out in one piece. The service is friendly, quick and observant. I never once had to ask for a refill on my beverage, the server just brought another one over. The food was hot, fresh and heaven on a plate. I would recommend this place to anyone, and I'm sure they would thank me for it. Thank you to Louie's for being an A+ dining experience! Pros: Antipasto Salad, Deep Dish Pizza, Service Cons: Too far from where I reside :-) more
