Locket's Meadow 7/21/2010

I heard about Locket's Meadow and stopped by, with my family, unannounced to take a look. We do not ride, but wanted to see large farm animals up close. The staff took their time in showing us around, introducing us to the animals and educating us about the animals and on the owner's rescue work. We brought carrots and apples and had a lot of fun feeding the animals, not having had much experience interacting with large animals before. It was educational and fun. The animals appeared well cared for, well tempered and clean, and staff seemed to genuinely care about each animal in their care. I'm glad I stopped by to show my children these beautiful animals and we look forward to returning soon. Pros: friendly, knowledgeable, clean Cons: none I could see more

Important announcement 2/1/2009

The author of the first review is Rose Sandler, age 27, of New Haven. She has never been to Locket?s Meadow, nor does she substantiate her accusations with any details or facts. This is illegal, and is known as liable, which, if it causes any loss of income or reputation to the party which she has disparaged in print, is in fact grounds for legal action. Rose Sandler?s accusations are not only vague, they are patently false, and we now have substantial evidence that her printed allegations have affected our programs and our standing in the community. All of this information is in the hands of Locket?s Meadow attorneys who have been instructed to take legal action to seek retribution for all damages. Unlike most every other stable, Locket?s Meadow Farm is an open facility that welcomes visitors at any time and our website clearly states this fact. We are able to do this without concern or hesitation because our animals are cared for to the highest standards ? ours. Anyone who doubts this is welcome to visit our facility and see for themselves, including Ms. Sandler. more

The most compassionate person I know 1/14/2009

Pamelaminion, I'm sorry if you had some sort of personality conflict with Kathleen. Horse owners are not an easy bunch of people for a barn owner to keep satisfied. But were you there when she bottle-fed the newborn foal every 2 hours around the clock? I'd guess not, or you wouldn't say the things you do. I can give you dozens of other examples to refute your claims, and as a veterinarian I can tell you that Kathleen knows more about horses than the average horse owner, cares more about animals than anyone \r I know, and consults with her veterinarians about her animals' care on a regular basis because, unlike many horse people (especially on the internet), she knows when she DOESN'T know something. more

Good intentions don't ensure good care for the horses 12/22/2008

While the owner of Locket's Meadow has her heart in the right place, she does not know what she does not know. She is not experienced with regard to equestrian matters; she knows very little about horses and the kind of care they need year round. It is disturbing as an experienced horse person to see someone with so little knowledge and experience assuming responsibility for such a large number of animals. Kathleen seems to be clueless about how horses need to be cared for in a responsible manner, and seems to believe that bluster and posing as a horse woman can substitute for really knowing what the horses need. Unfortunately it seems to be more about her image of herself as a ""rescuer"" than it is about addressing the needs of PMU horses. .....Sad :(\r \r \r \r more

Locket's Meadow 11/19/2008

I spent years at Locket's Meadow with my daughters. We loved it there. The horses had beautiful pasture and were exercised. The owners have an amazing amount of compassion for these animals that would have otherwise ended up in the slaughter house. My best advise is to go and visit the farm. Check it out for yourself. Sometimes people may have ulterior motives for writing reviews. more

Please use caution and common sense. 1/7/2008

It is important when rescuing animals to improve their quality of life. It is also important to not take on more than you can handle. This is not a reputable or quality equine facility. I just ask that before you become involved with anything here, to visit the actual place and also visit a number of other equine facilites, then judge for yourself. Pros: good intentions Cons: poor facility, poor care, poor management, boarders on cruelty more
