Great weekend afternoon 9/18/2008

South street is an awesome place to just go and relax on a casual weekend afternoon. Incredibly unique shops, wonderful food and an alternative atmosphere unparalleled by any other place in the city. You can make a whole day of shopping, eating and walking down this long strip of fun shops and restaurants. Pros: Great food, great stores, tons to see and do Cons: Not much parking more

A cool place to visit 5/27/2003

South Street has lots of fun things to do, and cool places to browse. I agree with MrGXX64...the parking gets ridiculous....I don't know if I could visit as often as MrG, but I definitely could spend several hours exploring all the cool stuff and watching all the different types of people who hang out on South Street. Pros: Unique Shops, Lots of Music Stores, Cool Bargains Cons: Parking more

a little of everything 4/16/2003

What a cool street. People from all walks of life gather to shop, eat, drink, or take a stroll and enjoy all this top Philly destination has to offer. Definitely recommended! Pros: variety of stores, people watching, fun, fun, fun Cons: crowded more

Philly SOHO 11/15/2002

Great Atmosphere, if you love the village in NYC then you'll love South Street. more

PARTY 11/6/2002

ONE OF THE MOST COLORFUL PLACES THAT I HAVE EVER BEEN TO. more

whoslookingatwho? 11/2/2002

people watching is the best part of the whole adventure to this short space of our world. in a few short blocks up and down in between wow. tyed dyed hippies and gothic freaks. diamonds and furs. small children and old men and woman strolling. all nations crowded together eating icecream or pizza. listening to the many street corner muscians, walk a block and see a mime, South Street is a carnival/festival everyday everynight. go on the weekends and really experience the feel of whos looking at who? Pros: cheap, variety, inspiring Cons: lack of restrooms, parking, tiring more

Not for the Faint 10/4/2002

South Street is simply -""the place to be"". You have great food, live venues (comedy clubs), unique shops (clothing and apparel) and more culture than one could ever imagine to be condensed into a handful of city blocks. I am a Philly native, but truly unbiased - I've been across the country and internationally. I've been to some beautiful places and you just can't duplicate the vibe or the culture...anywhere. If you love culture, diversity, the hustle & bustle of the city, entertainment, eccentric people, and extraordinary comforts -South Street will steal your heart! Pros: culture, variety, easily accessible more

south st. is differant place to checkout 10/4/2002

i think south st. is one of safest and most fun places to hang out and shop in philly. you can walk from one side to the other and see many types of people that come to south st. it's like a differant place in a differant time. south st. might look weird for some that go there for the first time. but, once you go there. you will allways want to go back and have fun all over again. i go to south st. at least 4 times a month.and enjoy it every time i go .the only bad thing about south st. is parking . the meters are good for only 2 hr.s. parking garages are little expensive. but its worth the trip. Pros: shopping, eating places, atmosphere Cons: parking, parking, parking more

BS 10/3/2002

No way. That is total BS. South Street is for tourists who think that is the place to go. It is just a bunch of weirdos now. more

Overcrowded for what? 9/25/2002

I live right off of south street downtown and every weekend i ask myself...why? why do tourists come here? what sites are there to see? why do suburbanites come here? is it really *that* bad in the burbs? why do ghetto-urchins come here? are the hoochies really *that* fine? south street was once somewhere you could go and escape the commericalism of malls. now there is a chain store on south street everywhere you go. i live here for convenience sake, i still dont understand what drives thousands of people here every weekend though more

Very atmospheric 8/22/2002

I thought this area of Philly was very atmospheric. The day I went it was raining, but that didn't matter. The shops in South Street were colourful and stocked items that I have not seen anywhere else. more

Free?? 8/14/2002

Only if you decide not to eat and shop though it is still a fun walk and inexpensive for the most part if you do spend money on anything. more

Dream Street 8/8/2002

Best people watching in the world...plus an amazing number of original stores -- more than 200 and sexy sexy sexy atmosphere. Truly amazing mix of people Pros: fun Cons: crowded more

culture 8/7/2002

South Street is by far the biggest mixture of culture I have seen in the city-everyone has to goto South Street more

out with the crowd 8/3/2002

I like it at South Street. There are all kinds of stores. I mean really how any hat store can you find in Philly like Hats in the Belfry. One can meet lots of new and interesting people while walking a couple blocks. A bonus is that it is close to the marina and the nightclubs are up the street. AND South Street has beautiful glass-mirror murals on the buildings. VERy artistic.. very good food on South Street too.... more

jersey <3 south st! 7/6/2002

on any given weekend night on south street, you're going to find throngs of south jersey kids wandering the streets. for years, it's been THEE place to go @ night. you can find music stores, clothing shops, a great concert venue (the TLA), tattoo and piercing places (where i got mine!), and dozens of great places to grab some food. parking's rough and you're gonna run into crowds... but all in all, it's a fun place to visit and it gives you something to do. Pros: great food, easy to get to Cons: crowds, pricey parking lots more

Funky Philly 5/14/2002

I spent many weekends and summer days strolling up and down this street in high school. Though gentrification never seems too far away, there are tried-and-true South Street mainstays like Zipperhead and Jim's Steaks still going strong. Go for a tattoo or piercing, eat an authentic Moroccan meal, search for those glass beads for a necklace or pick up a truly unique gift. You can spend the whole day here shopping, browsing, eating, drinking and hanging out with friends. Pros: Fun, Funky Cons: Limited Parking, Crowded more
