Best

This pizza is a different than other thick crust pizzas I have had. The thick, corn meal crust is crisp but not overly greasy. The sauce is the best I have ever tasted. They put t...

Worst

Not sure what all the hype is about. I've been to Chicago, home of stuffed/deep dish pizza. Tried out Little Star too. But in the end, Zachary's in the East Bay wins hands down...

i dare say... 7/5/2005

yes, i am saying the unthinkable... my favorite pizza in the world is no longer zachary's, it's little star. the cornmeal crust is the kicker in this heavyweight championship. service can be slow, but it's a fun place to hang out with friends. good jukebox. the deep dish is definitely the way to go. Pros: best deep dish 'za, good jukebox Cons: slow service more

The best crust!!! 6/13/2005

Little Star is awesome! They could have the best deep dish crust I've ever tasted. Staff is very friendly, and I hear happy hour is a great deal (will have to try that next). Pros: great pizza, great salad more

Amazing Deep Dish! 6/5/2005

Went to Little Star after reading a review in San Francisco magazine. I am a true devotee of thin-crust pizza, but really wanted to try thier depp dish after hearing how amazing it is. Well, all the reviews are right - Little Star makes incredible pizza! We tried the ""classic"" and the ""little star"" and both were delicious. The toppings were awesome, the proporation of cheese was perfect and the tomatoes on top really bring everything together. And I thought the crust would be big and doughey, but it was actually crispy and had a great corm-meal flavor. I hightly reccommend this place to anyone who loves pizza - thick or thin. Drinks are good too - nice beers on tap, decent wines and champagne cocktails! Pros: great pizza, happy hour Cons: small more

Better than Zachary's 5/26/2005

This is it. This is what Chicago-style pizza is about. And it's in the city. Genius!! Pros: Real Pizza, Cheap Beer Cons: Potentially Long Wait more

Thin crust IS good 5/11/2005

What, you kiddin'? That thin crust is totally rockin', dude. Really, it's great, and it ain't all that expensive either. Deep dish still my favorite, but I could do either one and be happy. Nice wines by the glass and beer on tap, too. More, please. more

Not as good as the hype 4/28/2005

This place did not live up to the hype. My significant other was enchanted by the $2 PBR in a can, but I think that's more a function of his upbringing in the Midwest. The buffalo wings were over seasoned. The crust on the deep dish pizza was nice on the first bite, but as it cooled, it became soggy and oily. When I get a hankering for deep dish, I'll go across the bridge to Zachary's. Also, the waitstaff seemed genuinely nice, but a bit clueless. There was also a ""shortage of menus"" when we went. How bizzare is that? Pros: $2 PBR Cons: Tough to park more

Good food 4/18/2005

Went there on Wednesday night and didn't have to wait for a four top. Ordered the ""classic"" deepdish and a thincrust and both were tasty. I wouldn't say it's better than Zachary's, but it's just as good in it's own way. Not as buttery as some have described. The service was disappointing. Maybe our waitress had an off night. She was fine at first, but towards the end of our meal, we were rushed as they kept hounding and asking if we were done every three minutes. Literally. When the kitchen is a little ""behind"" as they explained when we asked why our pies still hadn't been delivered after thirty minutes, I think it's only fair that we get a decent amount of time in return to eat our meal. Again, maybe she had an off night. I'm definitely stopping by again though. Pros: $1 PBRs, happy hour Cons: parking, rushed service more

Deep Dish Heaven 4/15/2005

Its nice to have more restaurants in the area! The deep dish pizza is the way to go. Also, the salads are large servings and cheap - a great starter to split with a partner. A great lilttle gem on Divis... Pros: Pizza, Atmosphere Cons: Long Waits more

DO NOT order a thin crust pizza here!!! 4/14/2005

Ordered a large thin crust potato, red bell pepper, gorganzola pizza for $22. What a disappointment. There was barely any toppings and although the dough and the sauce were decent it was way overpriced. Noticed that everyone else was eating deep dish pizzas and that's what this place is famous for. Willing to try that next time. But thin crust lovers beware it's an overpriced pie with little flavor or creativity. Decor is quite spartan and feels like they got everything on sale from West Elm clearance. Overall I am willing to try it one more time... Pros: Trendy Cons: Thin Crust pizzas, Understaffed more

Great Pizza & Great Drink Specials!!!! 3/8/2005

This place is great. I love Chicago style pizza and the food was amazing. The chicken wings were also very good. The food is great and the prices are awesome. This is a great place to take a group and not spend a lot of money. Try the champagne mixed drinks. They are outstanding. They unfortunately kept screwing up my bill, but I will forgive them since the food was so good. Pros: Inexpensive, Good Music, Casual Cons: Understaffed more

Focus on the 'Za 2/24/2005

Although this isn't your standard pizza or pizza joint, it's a great place to remember that pizza could quite possible be the perfect food. Good tunes surround you as you choose from PBR cans to hearty stouts on draft and wine by the glass, but the real focus is the deep-dish Pizza. The crispy and buttery crust is AMAZING and the heaping fresh toppings were equally appealing. We loved the Little Star with spinach, onions, garlic (but not too much), ricotta, feta, and additional sausage--but the other options looked just as good. Prices were a little high for pizza ($14-20 per pizza), but reasonable considering how tasty everything was (plus cheap PBRs). Since there are limited great pizza joints in the city, I think I found a great way to get my pizza fix and wash it down with some cheap beers. Pros: Tasty Pizza, Cheap Beer, Nice people Cons: Litte pricey, Nothing special decor more

FINALLY!!! 2/21/2005

Finally reason to eat Pizza in SF. Yes there are good spots, but nothing great and both deep dish & thin crust rock. While hard to compare to legends (Zachary's) I'm just estatic I don't need to cross the bridge as often. Damn I wish they delivered... Pros: Great food, Menu options, Ambiance Cons: Small really small more

the path to enlightenment 1/4/2005

When dining here, even the dorkiest Marina person will be transformed to ultimate coolness. The mutterings of the dullest stock trader, metamorphosed into romantic whispers. A nice place. Pros: deep dish pizza, happy hour, the jukebox more
