One of my favorite Italian Restaurants 4/24/2012

I live in the neighborhood and love to go to this restaurant at least once a week for lunch, and sometimes dinner. The waiters, Adrian, Sammy, Luis and Marcos are like family. Marcos seems to know the name of almost every customer. I love that in a waiter. The food is delicious! My favorite plate is the Chicken Francais that was recommended by Marcos. The place is intimate and not noisy at all. The dinner is a bit expensive, but worth every penny because of the quality of the food! more

Watch your bill at the end of the evening 2/25/2009

My friend and i went there for an after dinner drink and they ""double billed"" us. The place was empty too. Guess they figured we were tourists and wouldn't notice. Pros: great expresso Cons: double billed more

Editorial review from GrubHub 10/12/2008

We loved the food, the dishes were very nice, and they sent us the entire bread collection, exactly as it is served in the restaurant. So, we ordered again, and the other time was as nice as the first one. more

Great Restaurant 9/26/2008

I came here with family and had a great time. A little wait for the table and food. The service a bit slow, but the food was not disappointing. I enjoy the grilled salmon steak. . The salmone was nicely done. The portions were good size and I was satisfied after the meal. The price is on the pricey side, but well worth it. Pros: staff, salmon Cons: pricey more

good food, friendly place :) 4/20/2008

This is the kind of place that makes you feel at home as soon as you walk through the door. I've been dining here for years and have never had a bad meal. The food is not only good, it's consistent. The fried artichokes are a must. Not many places make them and these are the best I've had outside of Rome. One of my favorite dishes on the menu is the pounded veal chop... just wonderful. Oh and the linguine bolognese is a our ""go to"" dish when we crave pasta. With all the ridiculously trendy restaurants opening in the area, this is a breath of fresh air. Jimmy and Nino are great hosts, paying attention to details and aiming to please. We dine out all the time, checking out the new restaurants and while it's interesting to experience everything that's going on in the culinary world...we always come back home to Chelsea Ristorante. more

Ignore that bad review!! This place is delicious, inexpensive and a gem! 2/16/2007

I just moved to the city about month ago and have been relying pretty much on luck when looking for a decent restaurant/spa/grocery store etc. Tonight we went exploring again and decided to walk south from the 14th and 8th ave subway station to find an italian restaurant. ther weather was freezing and the restaurant's menu was posted outside. after looking over the prices we scooted in and asked for a table away from the front door that would be clear of the cold coming in along with fresh diners. we were immediately asked for our coats and then led to the back of the house by the brick oven and stayed warm the whole evening. the food was unexpectedly phenomenal and the service was not SLOW, it was simply relaxing. The waiters constantly filled out wine glasses and had the courtesy of letting us spend hours at our table. They understand that dining out is not just eating food, it is a social event and the two of us had a wonderful time. My seafood risotto was loaded with ocean creatures and my man's veal chop was great- lean, thin and plentiful. The salads are a little pricey as is the wine list (where ISN'T the wine list astronomical in nyc?) and even though the salad was forgotten before my meal, they brought it out upon discovering their mistake and took a few bucks off the bill- probably because I wasn't complaining. The food is great and CHEAP!- Average homemade pasta dishes- $15, risotto was about $20 and the veal was $27. Top-notch and just right. My new favorite place. Even with two large parties of 8-10 people, there was no moise and it was very pleasant. Pros: Food! tasty, service, relaxing Cons: not in harlem! more

cant get enough of this place 12/29/2006

Our favorite restuarant- anytime we are hungry and want a yummy meal, we always seem to come back to Chelsea ristorante. We come here for birthdays, anniversaries, after running marathons, a romantic dinner or for no special reason. We are never dissapointed and would recommend this place to anyone. My only complaint is that sometimes they are reluctant to give you a second order of the yummy bread... its annoying... but, we love this place (and we will just keep asking for more bread!) more

A great find 9/29/2005

A terrific authentic Italian restaurant with scrumptious homemade bread and pastas and more. We were a large group and all ordered different things and everyone was extremely pleased..don't hesitate to go! Pros: food, service more

A great find! 11/17/2004

I had my bday party dinner here last wknd with 13 friends and was very impressed with the overall experience. The space is small but gives you a nice, warm vibe. The staff is friendly and they did a nice job ensuring that all 13 orders came out at the same time! The food was excellent and the bread was too. I would highly recommend this place to anyone. Pros: Great food, Great ambience, Good service more

If you're in Chelsea, eat here!! 10/14/2004

I've been here many times, and the food is consistently delicious, especially the veal with artichokes. Not to mention the service is top notch, your glass is never empty for more than a second. I think it's pretty much a family run business because I've seen the same 5 people working there for several years. They take pride in their service. As for the atmosphere, I agree with other reviewers, it can be good for either a romantic date or a night out with friends. Try it, you won't be disappointed. Pros: excellent service, good food, nice atmosphere more

I don't get it... 8/19/2004

We were basically ignored. They had yummy bread & we had to ask 3x for more. We had to ask 3x for water. We had to ask 3x for anything we needed. And the waiter barely understood basic English. The food was good, not overwhelmingly great. We think an investor in or owner of the restaurant must have been sitting behind us in the restaurant with his date because the couple behind us were doted on, while my party of 4 was treated like dirt. Bad vibe all together. Wouldn't go back. Pros: Great bread more

Great Food, Great Service!! 7/3/2003

When my fiancee and I look for a place in the city, Chelsea Ristorante is always on our list. The atmosphere is great, service is second to none, and the food is spectacular. I would recommend Chelsea Ristorante to anyone. Pros: Excellent Service more

Everyday Dining 2/11/2003

The wine list isn't really special (and is overpriced) but you can find a few wines that are pretty good value. There are a lot of different pasta dishes to choose from, but nothing oustanding. The desserts on the other hand are first-rate, and the tiramisu is delicious. It's a good neighborhood restaurant. Pros: Excellent Desserts, Pleasant Atmosphere, Friendly Cons: Overpriced more

Great dependable Italian 12/29/2002

I live in the neighborhood and go to Chelsea Ristorante at least once a week. The food is consistently good and with super large portions. I would recommend it to anyone. more

Great Italian Restaurant in Chelsea 12/1/2002

My boyfriend and I loved this place. Romantic atmosphere, great food, attentive wait staff, and they finished off the evening with a complimentary plate of shortbread cookies and fresh strawberries. Also, if you like the flavor of smoked salmon, the ""Tagliolini Nero"" is a great pasta dish. more

Candlelight Cliche 10/12/2002

I visited the Chelsea Ristorante for the first time the other night. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. The ambience, though romantic, was overpowered by several people in the bar area and a birthday party celebration that made the dining area feel crowded. I did appreciate the decorative, low-lit style the restaurant displayed. I will return to try another entree since the food was absolutely delicious. But next time I will make sure it isn't as crowded in the bar area. more

great food, great service, cozy 8/23/2002

This restaurant is wonderful. The waitstaff was particularly attentive, although in true European fashion, one has to let the waiter know when you are ready to order and when you are ready for the check. The food was delicious, sauces were flavorful without being overpowering and the pasta was perfectly al dente. The restaurant has a very romantic ambiance, perfect for a cozy dinner with friends or a nice date. Highly recommended! Pros: Cozy, Great Tasting Food, Attentive Service more
