DMANBURGER ""Lillie's"" 7/20/2010

Men swooned when they saw Lillie Langtry, a 19th century vixen that stopped the ticker of such gentlemen as George Bernard Shaw and the once future King of England. An actress/model- whom would have been ever so comfortable in this antique chandelier laden Gin house that honors her name. Lillie’s dazzles with a wall of liquor that cradles long white marble bar. A plush stately Victorian feel, makes the suitor feel like they’re part of the Knights of the round table-rather than in a New York tavern. Off with your head! (In more ways than one) you imagine-as an Irish beer pullers force feeds you the amber ale. Decorative stain glass windows reflect the sound of U2 and the Pogues, evoking a droning guitar sound that helps the feeling take effect. After work soused hipsters, flaunt about the room impressed by the ornate museum like surroundings- Roman columns and hand carved wood finishing’s that were painstakingly shipped piece by piece across the Atlantic . ""Can I help you sir""? Is the familiar lingo from an attractive staff-anxious to please. The food is pub fare with a variety. Anything from Spinach Artichoke dip to Warm bread pudding-with burgers, a steak sandwich and a Guinness battered Fish and Chips for good measure. “No worries lad- we're open till 4.00am” the bartender shouts, in a thick Dublin accent. –which belies one’s responsibility. Lillie’s makes for an experience that leaves you quoting Shakespeare and feeling Royal-“And now gentlemen in England, now a bed, will think themselves a cursed they were not here” Pros: Decor and clientele Cons: Busy hard to get a seat more

Nice alternative to the crush of Union Square 2/25/2010

I would hardly classify Lillie's as a ""Sports Bar"". It's old world decor is quite inviting. This is a great spot for meeting a small group, or just a friend for a drink. I've been here a number of times since Lillie's opened. It's a great go to in a neighborhood that is sometimes devoid of charm. Pros: Beautiful decor, good beer selection, delectable pub food Cons: Gets way too busy for week night happy hours more
