Gym=not bad;Customer service/billing=incompetent 3/12/2012

I was a member at Life Time for over a year. While I was there the gym was fine, facilities were always clean, I was always able to get a machine and had no complaints to speak of. It was pretty overpriced ($60 a month vs. $30 for nearly every other gym in Columbus). But, for what it offered it was probably worth a little more. I moved away from Columbus over a year ago and finally got around to canceling my membership in July of 2011 (I was a procrastinator, it happens). Around November I looked at my credit card statement and saw a charge from Life Time. I was sort of confused, but I checked my billing statements and they had continued charging me for months after July. I immediately notified my bank, who researched the issue, charged back the last 4 months worth of charges and notified Life Time to discontinue charging my account. I'm not sure what happened with my original cancelation--but my bank resolved it easily and I had no worries at that point. 3 months later I received notification from Life Time that my bill is now almost $200 and 90 days past due. Why they (again) ignored notification to cancel my account is beyond me. I've filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and will--obviously--never waste my time, money or energy with a Life Time fitness again. I suggest everyone else do the same. more

Took the tour tonight. The sales guy was the deal breaker. I saw the reviews here after the fact, which confirm my impression. I am looking for ease of use, no "glitz", good hours, no frills. To me this gym, which looks like a wanna be country club facility, does not have it when it comes to those basic tenets. My impression of the facility is "chaos". Take a day to think about it. more

Poor Customer Service 10/25/2010

Last week I made an appointment to get my hair highlighted and trimmed for life spa Today when I arrived for my hair appointment (5 minutes early) I was told that she didn't have time to do my hair. She could maybe fit in a trim but not a highlight.. While telling me this she was standing at her station doing her OWN hair! I work in New Albany and had to leave work early this evening and rush home to make this hair appointment.. I also skipped my yoga sculpt class at the gym to make this hair appointment. I am disappointed and somewhat disgusted at the lack of customer service and poor attitudes in the Life Spa. The receptionist never apologized to me and had the audacity to ask if i wanted to reschedule for another time. more

gym nightmare 9/28/2010

This gym has the worst customer service that I have ever seen from any type of business. We were skeptical from the beginning because the place had the feel of a used car dealership, except instead of being attacked immediately, I had to wait 30 minutes before I was able to talk to the car salesman. We were given a tour and listened to the spiel of how this gym was better than the rest. We have two children and the salesman did not disclose two very import policies about the gym’s daycare. It wasn’t until our very first after joining the gym, that we were told that there is 1 hour and 15 minute limit for children 12 months and under. We had been at the gym for 1 hour and 20 minutes when someone from the daycare walked through the pool area carrying a large sign with my name on it to tell me to go pick up my youngest child. We had been told that our children would be watched for up to 2 hours. The daycare does not change diapers. At times they will come get you or page you to let you know that you need to go change your child’s diapers. That’s really nice when you only have 1 hour and 15 minutes to work out. At other times, they won’t call at all. You might pick up your child who has soiled clothes. We were also told that the daycare closes at 9p.m. Once again it wasn’t until after we had joined the gym that we were informed that the daycare closes an hour earlier for children 12 months and under. Every hour on the hour, the pool closes for 10 minutes for anyone under the age of 15. This is the case even if the child is in the pool with their parents. Try explaining to a two year old that they have to get out of the pool for 10 minutes. This is the only gym that does this. The gym’s policy is that any time there is lightning within a 30 mile radius of the gym, the pools are closed. This includes the indoor pool. Basically, anytime there is a storm anywhere in the area, you should call the gym if you plan to use the pool because there is a high probability that it is closed for the day. It's incredible the number of times that I have gone to that gym when there wasn't a cloud in the sky and the pool was closed. Another really annoying policy at this gym is with i.d.’s. If you forget your wallet and therefore don’t have an i.d., they will not let you in, even though they can bring your photo up on their computer. They require that you drive back home to get your i.d. No other gym has this policy. There are better gyms in the area that you should consider. more

racist statements 6/3/2010

i got out of the pool and their pool director said to me... i know we have different cultures but you need to cover up before you walk in the halls! I had been there over two hours and had not thought about my dress or race (African American). I was so embarrassed and humiliated. There is no sign saying cover up before walking in halls and my suit was a complete one piece not revealing at all... The part that hurt the most telling me I was from a different culture... Ive been an American all my life... Now I feel Muslin... and in need of covers.... more

average facility 1/24/2009

The managers do not follow up on complains seriously. Some Staffs are disrespectful. The group classes are very few and always overcrowd. Overall clean facility but similar and cheaper facilities are present in this area for much cheaper price. Pros: clean Cons: staff unfriendly more

Overpriced 9/24/2008

While the facilities are above average, the customer service leaves a lot to be desired, especially for the amount they charge. There are some pleasant employees, but by and large they won't go out of their way to be pleasant. I'm sure there are many other opportunities in Columbus at a far more reasonable price. Pros: Nice facilities, 24 hours a plus Cons: Overall customer service lacking, very expensive more

OUTSTANDING 3/25/2004

I have to say that Lifetime Fitness is a great facility for people who expect more from a gym. I have a little son and the day care is great, not to mention free. The classes are free and there are no line or waiting for any of the equipment. The pool is outstanding and they have great locker rooms. I can't say enough, don't complain about the monthly fee, because of all the great stuff, it is definitely worth it. Pros: clean locker rooms, family locker room, free classes more
