Great place to chat and drink 7/27/2008

I heard about this wine bar from a bunch of people as a good neighborhood hang out with a good wine list. I?m not a wine expert but I really liked the atmosphere and the attitude of the bartenders. They really take the time to explain about wines and let you taste different wines. I was meeting girlfriends and waiting alone for a while and the atmosphere was cozy and nice to be sitting by yourself as well hanging out with friends. Pros: wines, service and atmosphere more

A real wine bar 7/27/2008

If you are a wine fan, you should check out this place.\r Great selection of wines, that can easily be paired with something on the food menu. \r It was a little loud once the place was packed, but well worth it Pros: A real wine bar, Service Cons: Can be a little loud when packed more

Horrendous Service 7/25/2008

I live down the street from this bar and thought it looked cute- wanted to try it out. Called them up to tell them I was bringing a group and to make sure there would be no conflicts. They said we were good. \r The bartender, however, thought differently. He was rude all night, tried to clear our drinks before they were done, even hounded some people to do so. What took the cake though, was when he yelled at us simply for ordering. Something about too many people... he wasn't informed of the group... and I mean yelled!\r C'mon, really. Even if it is crowded (they weren't packed, it was appropriately busy), it's a WINE bar-- no one's slammin' their drinks and hounding the bartender to keep him on his toes!\r Would have left sooner, but people arrived at different times, so we felt stuck patronizing a business to which I would never return. Pros: cute place Cons: service, service, service, price more

Oysters Oysters and Oysters 7/17/2008

The morning after and with two dozen oysters and a bottle of ?Gosset Grand Reserve? down my belly, my day sure looks better.\r For me, a big oyster lover, Lelabar is kind of a fairyland. With $1 per Oyster and an endless wine list to choose from, great crowd and service?..Thank you New York Magazine for the recommendation. Pros: Great local crowd more

Cheese and Meat plates 7/15/2008

One of my favorite foods are cheeses and cold cuts. Here, at Lelabar the cheese and meat plates are really amazing. The cheeses are riped and creamy, the cold cuts are always fresh. My personal favorite is the Pon't Leveque, a very rich french cheese and the dry cured sausage which is air dried. Very pleasant wine bar! more

%35 Markup 7/12/2008

I read the reviews posted here and thought it would be a great place to try, but I was completely disappointed. When I go to a wine bar I expect an eclectic selection of wines, but I didn't really see anything unusual or unique. I recognized several bottles and noted the %35 markup. The appetizers were ok, but lacking in quality and imagination. We ordered from the limited selection of chocolates only to be disappointed again. I think I could get more satisfaction from a bottle of beer and a hershey bar. Do yourself a favor and leave this spot to the tourists. Pros: The staff was polite Cons: Over priced, low quality food, disappointing wine selection more

tastiest cheeses in town 7/2/2008

I am a cheese fanatic and Lelabar has the tastiest cheeses, among these my favorites are the Pont L'Eveque, St. Maure, Epoisses and brie de nangis from France. Combining any of their cheeses with a glass of excellent bordeaux is just like heaven. They also offer suberb quality zinfandel and white wines, so if you are looking to indulge yourself you need to visit this trendy wine bar in the west village. more
