I've been coloring my hair for as long as I can remember, but was starting to dread the visits to the stylist as it meant that burning sensation in my scalp, dizziness and days with an awful headache. I was told that organic coloring would never replace the upscale hues I was used to. They were wrong. Not only was the process painless and odorless, but the color was outstanding (my friends couldn't believe it), and my hair was soft and vibrant. I bought their products and followed their careful advise, and so far, so good. Marina was adorable, everybody was so attentive, took their time and explained all the amazing qualities of their products. Plus, all of this at a fraction of my usual stylist. I was recommended to Ashraf by my mother who is a tough critic. She told me that Ashraf really knew what she was doing as far as haircuts were concerned, so .. ..unhappy with my usual hairdresser, I decided to take the plunge. I underwent the Keratin treatment and it was applied by Rada ( who is awesome ). I came back a few days later for my wash, cut and blow out.. Wow, wow, wow ! Ashraf is so detail oriented when it comes to cuts, she knows what works and how to cut hair. This salon is chic, intimate and a great addition to the neighborhood for me, as I live and work in the area. I will continue to come to Le Salon and recommend it to those who appreciate the true craft of hairdressing. You won't be disappointed with the results. I was always depressed about my thin, lifeless hair, but felt I had no hope. This was my hair, and that was it! Ashraf, the owner, turned my life around. She would not cut my hair if I would not let her help me. Constructively she insisted I improve the condition of my hair first, the Brazillian, changed my color, and after that was able to cut my hair so it would improve my appearance. I am happy when I look in the mirror. I went from having the worst looking hair to being the one that people ask where I have my hair styled. This is a very, very, special place. A natural brunette with pre-mature greys, finding a colorist I trust in a must for my (emotional) well-being. So returning to NY after 7 years in Paris where I had my regular hair gig, I thought it would be easy to find a comparable service in our great city. Seven different salons later and seven different shades of somewhere between too black and too red, I stumbled upon le Salon - and happy happenstance ! That the products they use are different (and much better) is really not B.S. - no smell, no tingling, no difficulty getting the color off my skin and shiny, healthy, fabulous brown (not red, not black) hair. Marina (the super perky but consumately professional) colorist is a dream. She really knows her stuff and is attentive to my wishes. And when I finally broke down and got a hair cut, Ashraf (the owner and resident expert on all matters of the body and heart) did a fantastic job - she makes her salon a destination. The prices are reasonable - especially by NY standards - and the welcome is the warmest I found in all my meanderings. For me, ""Le Salon"" really is ""The (only) Salon"". I luv coming to the ''Le Salon'' .I come out feeling pretty ,in a good mood and always stylish. I come in, close my eyes and give my head to Ashraf,relax and one hour later I have a new haircut, a la mode , and a pretty head . Next week I will be trying the Brazilian Karotene process . The atmosphere at ''LeSalon'' is very friendly ,relaxing a bit like a french boudoir. Just wanted to reiterate, I've been going to Le Salon for a few years now and still rate it 5 stars. This is a great salon. Ashraf gives very good advice and skilled haircuts. She knows her stuff, sees the beauty in all her clients, and strives to bring out the best in everyone's hair. Don't hesitate to go there - I have challenging hair - thick, frizzy, curly - and it looks better than it ever has in my life - without Keratin treatments - after putting it in the hands of Ashraf and Marina at Le Salon. These are talented, highly-trained experts who know what they are doing and care about their clients. Le Salon is the perfect beauty salon experience. If you have damaged hair or just want to look your best, visit Le Salon. I love that they are 100% Organic. Le Salon is in my neighborhood. If it weren't, it would become a destination. Ashraf took a chance last year and opened a boutique hair salon, with great music, select coffees/teas, and atmosphere. The result could not be better. Frankly speaking, I used to color my hair own hair from a bottle, and did not recognize my hair and came to Le Salon where they brought my hair back to life. Now my hair has a healthy texture and color. The quality of my hair was so awful I always had to put it up. Now my hair is full, bouncy and shiny. Ashfra is an artistic hair designer who is well experienced; she knows everything about hair; has worked all over the world; she is a visionary. The products used on the hair are absolutely the best, my hair never looks better and shinier. My hair grows very fast and resists most colors but not this organic hair dye. It is absolutely the best. To remain wholly organic, I was persuaded to buy the shampoo and the conditioner. The shampoo smells delicious and economical since you use only a smidgen for my medium length hair. The conditioner you can leave it on or rinse off. Since my hair is thick I chose to rinse it off and it still does its magic. After 4 weeks, even if my hair roots start to show the gray, the rest of my hair remains shiny and un-brassy. The colorist's name is Marina. She is lovely and totally professional. For the most fashionable hair cut, there is the inimitable Ashraf, the genius hair cutter. Never had a better hair cut at any price! You are treated like a special person since this is a specialty and tiny salon so please be kind and patient to the help. This salon is not an assembly line salon, each person will be given whatever time is required to do the job right. Make sure you are not in a rush and ask for an appointment where you will be given the time you need for the appointment. Morningsand late afternoons would be best, especially between 2-4. Go try it, you will love the products & service. I am amending my previous review of this salon. I have been coming to this salon since it opened (more than 2 1/2 years). It had weathered the usual slow opening period in a street that is not busily crowded by people other than from the hotel across the street and the United Nations. I still stand by my previous review by amending it for newer as well as additional positive comments. Not one salon, not one person can be perfect all the time. In real life, there are good days and bad days in everyone's life and ultimately, the whole salon, its employees, their talents and products used will stand on their own. It is a service industry and occasionally there is a confluence of bad moods, bad clients, moody hair dressers that affect the service for that particular moment. It happened and it would not be the last time but the preponderance of goodwill and talent will always prevail. Most of the clients of this salon gave it 4-5 star reviews (including myself) and that should be a positive indicator for those who still have doubts. I've known Ashraf for 28 years and I know her very well. Her talents are enormous and yes, she could be moody but in the end, she made me look beautiful, each and every time. Do not consider the salon unworthy of your visit. For one bad moment or lapse of the usual excellent service or personality, there are still wonderful and talented personnel who are working there, Marina the artistic colorist, Rada the wonderful stylist, Vincent, the other talented colorist and stylist who would give their 150% to make each client happy. I would not be afraid to go back for my monthly color and style. I even insist that Ashraf cut my hair every six weeks, she is that good, moodiness notwithstanding. She is worth every minute of your time. This salon has a terrific esprit de corps, united it stands and I will make sure of its continuity since there is such enormous talent pool there. It is a jewel of a salon still. You should try to come during the non-rush hours (11 AM-12 noon and then 2 -4 PM) to ensure that you get the best attention.
