love this place! authentic mexican food is hard to find this place has it!

Worst

The Sangria is great, but the food is just okay. Very young crowd on Saturday...

Disappointment 5/13/2010

So after reading bunch of nonsensical reviews praising this joint, I decided to have lunch here with some coworkers. What a disaster- from the beginning to the end. We should have left first second we saw the place completely deserted in what should be the busiest lunch hour (12:30pm). Nobody, I mean nobody in. We sat and wanted to order margaritas (we did go to a Mexican restaurant after all) and the waitress stated she was not permitted to serve them. Only wine and beer. That was weird. Anyway... The lunch menu was short, which in my opinion is a good sign; the chef focuses on a few good dishes. Oh boy, was I wrong. Prices ranged from $15 for ceviche to $19 for chicken enchilada. Each of us (4 people) ordered something different plus we shared guacamole. Each and single dish was a huge disappointment. Starting with guacamole: avocado wasn't ripe and tomato tasted like it was about to rotten- I'm not exaggerating. I got chicken enchilada which looked and tasted like from any Mexican take-out or worse. Filled with rice and dry chicken. And on top of this the waitress brought us bill with gratuity included (20% !!!!). That really pissed me off because I like to decide on my own what I think the service was worth. Apart from the fact that it is illegal. So I asked the waitress to show me the menu where it states that they add gratuity on parties of 4 and more. Instead she suddenly brought us new bill without the service charge. Good, because I was about to call the manager over and show him what I think of their practices. Never ever again would I go there and I will make sure to let all my friends not to waste their time. There are so many authentic, beautiful Mexican restaurants in NYC that it is absolutely crazy to even think about Las Chicas Locas. Pros: no waiting for a table- 0 customers Cons: everything else more

Worst lunch I've had in a long time 5/13/2010

I can't believe most of the reviews of this restaurant are good. It looks like they were all written by the owner... I went there for lunch with some friends, expecting to have a nice margarita and some good mexican food. As soon as we walked in we were surprised that the place was completely empty.. we got there at 12:30pm which should be a busy hour for any good restaurant. We first try ordering some margaritas but the waitress mentioned that they don't serve margaritas at lunch time!! And no, don't think we are young teenagers under the legal age for drinking alcohol.. After the Margarita's disappointment, we ordered some guacamole, which was awful... none of the ingredients were fresh... the avocado tasted rotten... Then we ordered some burritos... The waitress recommended the steak burrito which I ordered and wasn't good at all. The steak was burnt and for the price they charge, you better go to a nice restaurant and get some decent food. When we got the check, the waitress informed us that a 20% gratuity was included. We were just 4 people so this didn't make any sense. Of course we asked her to show us the menu where they stated that 20% gratuity will be charged for parties of 4 and all of a sudden we got another bill without the gratuity charge. If you are thinking of going here, re consider... There are many other nice restaurants around. Pros: None Cons: Horrible food, expensive for what they serve! more

Great Food, Good Service... INCREDIBLE SANGRIA 2/21/2010

I went there on Saturday night with my girlfriend. We had great service from the staff at Las Chicas Locas. The white sangria is incredible; best I've ever had. Absolutely the best. I had the beef tacos for dinner.... They were incredible. Very simple and understated. Many mexican restaurants overthink tacos. At LCL, they are perfect. Overall, it was a very good dining experience. Can't wait to go back. Pros: Intimate Atmosphere, Great Service, Solid Food Cons: Very Few more

Best customer service! Had an amazing time 11/8/2009

I was there last night for my bday dinner. Everyone at the restaurant was exceptional friendly and sweet. My friend got me a cake from outside and the manger gladly refrigerated the cake for us. Throughout dinner, we had free shots and one of the server came over for a magic trick to wish me happy bday. The food was good too. After all these years celebrating my bday in the city. I think it was the best experience ever more

Come here for Brunch!!!!! 9/4/2009

The white sangria here is unbeleivable - my friends and i have been here for a brunch a few times now and it's a great deal - $18 for any entree with unlimited bloody marys, mimosas and sangria for an hour and a half - not many places have unlimited drunk brunches any more ladies gotta jump on the places that are still doing it!!! As far as the food, the spicy eggs quesadilla is definitely the way to go, and the burger is also spicy and delicious comes topped with jalapeno cream cheese. Pros: Unlimited bloody marys, sangria and mimosas Cons: only for 90 minutes :( more

Big Let Down 8/13/2009

I suppose living in Southern California naturally exposes you to some of the best mexican food north of Mexico. However, Las Chicas Locas, is trying to hard to be trendy without backing it up with good food. They hide behind the guise of being 'authentic' but even the food in Mexico has 100 times more flavor than these overpriced tacos. Even the queso, which is just melted cheese was disappointing. How can you mess up melted cheese? Besides, charging $5 for chips and salsa is a travesty. That is definitely not authentic. The margaritas were awful. We searched for any authentic or familiar taste that we could appreciate but were left hanging and at $15 a pop, definitely skip them. The patio leaves something to be desired. You are continuosly spritzed by the moisture from the air conditioning units that pepper the side of the hotel. Needless to say, if you're looking for great Mexican food experience, I would skip Las Chicas Locas. Pros: Friendly Wait Staff Cons: Not so tasty food more

The perfect spot 7/27/2009

I came here for the first time with a birthday party. Everything about our night here was great. The service was so accommodating, bringing us rounds of drinks and checking in on us. The guacamole was the best I have ever had and the lobster tostados were incredible! The mood in the venue is intimate but fun, we will definitely be returning to Las Chicas Locas. more

Great ambiance and drinks 7/26/2009

I threw a going away party here for my buddy and we had an awesome time- the ambiance was cool, the music was perfect for the crowd, and the drinks and sangria were awesome. The manager was great also, always checking in on us to make sure we were having a good time and bringing us rounds of shots. Most of us had never been before but everyone had a great time, and we definitely will be back! more

Delicious Fare and Fantastic Service 6/1/2009

I have been to Las Chicas Locas a few times, and anything I've ever tried here has been delicious!!! I get the guacmole every time, which is always fresh and flavorful with a hint of spice. I'm an avocado freak, so I usually start with either the queso and avocado salad or the gazpacho salad - both are fantastic, but i especially love the rich balsamic drizzled on the queso and avocado salad. I generally follow this with the portobello tacos, which are spicy but not overbearingly so. The chili-glazed salmon was also a stand-out dish.\r \r The service is always friendly. The music is on the loud side in keeping with its trendy atmosphere, but it's quiet enough to have a conversation without straining.\r \r I would definitely reccomend this place for parties and large group dinners - the energy level is always high!\r Pros: Food, Service and Ambiance more

Consistently superb food 5/10/2009

I started coming here with coworkers a little while ago and I am increasingly impressed by the consistency of the food- anything I've ever ordered here has been excellent, and anything I've sampled that a friend or co-worker was eating was also delicious. The guacamole is aways fresh and tastes very similar to what you would find in Mexico. The filet with tequila-lime butter is expensive but worth it for how tender and flavorful it is. The design of the place is interesting - divided down the middle, half is a restaurant and half is a bar/lounge. While I've only ever been here for dinner, it seems to be a popular happy hour destination as well. more

Nice decor - food wasn't that great 5/6/2009

Went there with some friends, it was in a very random area with nothing else by it. I was pleasantly surprised by the decor and the way the restaurant was set-up with the bar area and outdoor area in the back. The music however was very sporadic and a mix of melodic Mexican tunes and then hard hio-hop and rap, which was random. I would prefer the former mixed with some Buddha Bar or Latin Jazz. The food was not that good and the portions were very small! My friends got the Lobster Tostadas which was $18 and it was three tiny chips with some lobster and sauce on them, granted it was an appetizer but not filling at all. The manager (?) was very nice and friendly and gave us two free rounds of shots, although we would've preferred free appetizers instead! Monday night is not the best night to get drunk! Overall if they revamp the menu and music this place has potential. It should be marketed as a lounge/club or for private parties - will do better. Pros: Decor, set-up, service, free drinks Cons: Food, prices, location more
