Best

Don't expect fast service ... that said... this is the best burger in town. Eating a Soldier Burger with an extra egg and bacon is the way I want to die.

Worst

We first tried this legendary place a few weeks after Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives aired the segment filmed here, and the line was far too long to wait for a burger. So we went to...

FED UP 8/9/2002

We are tired of you standing over us while we try to finish our enchiladas. It used to be a pleasure to scrape the remnants of cheese, onion and heavenly gravy from our blue plate special. Now I feel the hair standing up on my neck that you're breathing down, impatient for a table. If my mama cooked that good, I'd visit her more often. After the enchilada onslaught, we found solace at Saturday breakfast. Ya'll found out about that now we have to call ahead to see if the tables are in a conga line for breakfast. Did you know they won't serve french toast if they're out of powdered sugar? It's just wacky but we love it. Anyway, you newcomers need to lighten up a little bit or else you're gonna break the kitchen - and while you're standing in line - close the door! Signed, A regular more

great produce! 8/7/2002

Really fresh produce and good cuts of meat. The selection is pretty broad for a smaller grocery store. more

Much Too Nice 8/1/2002

I don't know how they do it and I don't ask any questions. I just sit down and order that CHEESEBURGER!!!! Pros: delicious more

The Best In Town 7/31/2002

If you want to taste an old fashion burger try this place like someone told me and I'm passing it on your first visit you should try the burgers and after that you will be hooked then try the breakfast. basically it's just good old fashion cooking. more

9.0 7/30/2002

Great hamburgers! Don't go for the ambiance tho. Actually all food has been great. But like every other restaurant in the city---PLEASE start cleaning the outside of the salt and pepper shakers. That goes for EVERY restuarant in Houston. Gritty and greasy shakers--yuk! Pros: food--all of it Cons: smokey, tv station kept on more

fantabulous 7/29/2002

7/20/2008 akawillie\r \r I don,t kjnow who CMK1126 and BEARNOT are, but they obviously had a bad day, and needed someone to blame it on. They chose Lankfords. I think the numbers, and my taste buds, speak for themselves.45 out of 50 reviews, 5 star, 3 reviews, 4 star, only 2 give 1 star. Guess who. I've been a patron of Lankfords for 15 years and have yet to be dissapointed with the fare or the service. Sure, there have been times when the wait for service might have seemed a bit long, but that speaks to the fact that, at lunch time, all the tables, inside and out are packed with longtime regulars who don't mind waiting to get a truely memorable, and satisfying, meal. A dump? I don't think so. Old, for sure. The building has been at the corner of Dennis and Genesee since 1937, and was a grocery store before Eydie turned it into a Cafe and Ice House (More Cafe than Ice House, but you can have a beer with your lunch. Only long necks, though, which is the choice of true Texans). It might look out of place surrounded by new Townhomes that have sprung up in the last few years, but it's refreshing to see this anachronism of the 4th ward, that hasn't yet been swept away by Urban Renewal. Long live Lankfords, and Eydie, the proprietess, who makes your day a little brighter when you stop in for a truely remarkable, old fashioned, Hamburger . Pros: Friendly management, attentive staff, reasonably priced more

None Better! 7/26/2002

After eating here at least once a week for over 3 years, I still have yet to be have anything less than great food! Burgers are juicy and sloppy, just the way you remember them as a kid. Ambience has improved greatly with the addition of watermelon tablecloths and Eydie's ""frying pan"" bowling trophy for rolling a 213 in league play! Pros: Robin & Monty, Elvia & Debbie, Richard & Jimmy more

Best Burger in Town! 7/25/2002

Truly the best - a homestyle burger like I remember from my childhood. If you care about ambience this isn't the place to go, but if you just want great food this is it. more

Dive Hamburgers 7/23/2002

This place is the original greasy spoon kitchen but it must be all those years of grease that makes the burgers so good. Pros: Delicious, Cheap, Innerloop Cons: Parking, Utensils more

Want the best burger? Look no further! 7/22/2002

One of the Best burgers in the State of Texas. Also, the breakfast is great and an outstanding value. I definitely will continue recommending Lankford's to friends and associates. Pros: Food, Service, Location Cons: Ambience, Size, Location more
