Best

Don't expect fast service ... that said... this is the best burger in town. Eating a Soldier Burger with an extra egg and bacon is the way I want to die.

Worst

We first tried this legendary place a few weeks after Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives aired the segment filmed here, and the line was far too long to wait for a burger. So we went to...

BEST burgers in town!!!!! 9/5/2008

These burgers are by far the best in town. We order the single burger and it is hugh and hot! Don't make the mistake of ordering the double burger, it has to be made for two people. Rather than fries, we order the ""tex-mex"": a combination of very thin onion rings that are mixed with thin slivers of jalepanos - all fried crispy of course. This order is big enough so that it can be shared by two people. We have directly heard from friends that the daily specials (chicken fried steak, enchiladas, etc) are likewise good and delicious. We have eaten burgers here about 20 times and each time the quality has been consistently good. The restaurant is an old converted store and the ambiance is lacking, but it is clean - that's what counts. ...probably not the place to bring your date for a proposal :-) But, for good food, come here. But be fore-warned, on weekdays there will be a line out the door if you don't arrive by 11:45. Pros: Best burgers in town bar-none more

Best place for a burger in Houston 8/26/2008

First-time message.\r \r Smiles everywhere. Sat and talked to a stranger about Conference USA football. Cold beer, great service. Price can't be matched. Not only are their burgers great, try their breakfast. Good old home cooking, and one of the only places you can actually order a Lonestar. One down side, they do not accept Credit Cards. But for the best cheese burger money can buy, I don't mind a bit. Pros: Great food, great service, great people Cons: No Credit Cards, Parking more

Not the Best Burger in Town 8/16/2008

Our expectations were high after reading somewhere this was the best of the best burgers in Houston....what a disappointment !!! The service was sluggish but the food arrived within about 5 minutes(I questioned how they cooked it so fast), the Tator Tots were hot and delicious, my beer was cold and unfortunately so was the burger. We were served precooked, overcooked, dry meat, barely warm, served up on a cold bun. The vegetables were fresh so why wasn't the burger??? I agreed with others, if this is your specialty, why would you ruin it by precooking the meat patty? Bellaire Broiler Burger, Bubba's and Beck's Prime remain my favorites. Pros: Best Tator Tots, generous portion, cold beer. Cons: Precooked, overcooked and dry meat patties. more

Just dissapointing 6/28/2008

I agree with the previous reviewer, the burgers were definitely all hype. The burgers were not cooked to order at all, but pre-cooked and just assembled. You can tell when a buger has been cook to order when it comes out juicy and hot. Also, how could you get your burger within 5 minutes right after you just ordered it.I'd have to say it was quite dissapointing, especially if all they do is specalize in burgers. The burgers remind me of Papas Bugers, which are just big, but as we all know the more doesn't mean better. They need to bring a in-n-out burger here to houston to show what a burger should taste like. more

don't believe the hype 6/7/2008

This was one of the most flavorless, overcooked burgers I've ever eaten. And what a dump! I just don't get it. What could people be tasting? more

Lankford ...more like Plankford 2/22/2008

Park at your own risk. The place is falling apart and looks like the termites are enjoying the actual place since parts of the building you can see falling apart. You might slide out of the place. The food was terrible, service was lousy and the owners don't care about their customers. The owner refused to help a friend out of the lot when his car got stuck in one of their holes. Save your money, just buy a double cheeseburger from Mcdonalds instead. Pros: tasty termites Cons: bathroom outdoors more

Best Homemade Burger! This is NOT Fuddruckers. 1/22/2008

If you are looking for expensive, gourmet burgers, this is probably not the place for you. It's a Mom and Pop business through and through, and the burgers are amazing. For your first time visit, just get a good ol' cheeseburger, you won't be dissapointed. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The fries are good, but I recommend the ""Tex Mex"" - fried onion and jalepeno strips - Very good!!! Oh, and try the apple cobbler w/ Blue Bell ice cream! Yum! Pros: Best Homemade Burger, TexMex dish, wonderful staff, cozy Cons: It's a little hard to find, but worth the look! more

Best Hamburger Joint 10/24/2007

This is the best burger joint in Houston. They can make the burgers as spicy as you want it. Great people. Pros: Food. Service. more

Get there early or you won't get a table at lunch 10/21/2006

Not only is it the best hamburger, they have wonderful chicken fried steak specials on Fridays.\r \r Get there early, or you won't get a table for lunch.\r \r more

Now THATS a tasty burger!! 5/17/2006

This place has earned the best burger award in my book, the thing was HUGE! What a great place to have breakfast too, just hanging out talking with other diners about current event... The staff is very friendly, and the service is awesome! Pros: Hamburger, Tots, Outside sitting more

User review by marthachandler 3/15/2006

I tried Wednesday Special Enchiladas instead of my normal burger I just cannot seem to stay away from. Was I glad I did! They were awesome. A half-order (at $5) comes with chips and green & red salsa..both great! Tray after tray of enchiladas kept coming out of the kitchen. I shall look forward to trying more ""specials"" during the week now! The highlight of my meal with visiting with Jimmy while I ate at the counter. Love this place! Can't wait to go back for more! Pros: great staff, great food, great prices more

The best burger I've had in a while... 12/28/2005

I LOVE THIS PLACE!! The burgers are great. I haven't yet experienced their breakfast or anything else. Their onion rings and fries are to die for too. Come early and be prepared to find an obsure parking spot. It's worth it though!! Pros: Inexpensive, Good Food, Fun atmosphere Cons: small, location, parking more

Edie (the owner) has the best Burgers anywhere!! 10/16/2005

I started eating there after finding it in Citysearch about 4 years ago. After that, I was there 4 days a weeks. Edies salsa-on Wed. & Sat. is the best ANYWHERE. I have not found anything that they serve that is not done to beyond perfection. On Sat. (once in a while) Edie will make Eggs Benedict that will make Brennans take a backseat. The Cheesburger is beyond belief. The Tacos are absolutely beyond compare. The enchiladas should be in the Food Hall of Fame. The Chicken Fried Steak is real steak. The crew is friendly. The food is the best in Houston. She even makes all her own salad dressings. The house dressing is above superb. They only have 1 Special a day and that is worth coming in for by itself. Try her breakfasts, no rubbery eggs here. Edie has the breakfast down pat. Pros: Friendly, Inexpensive, Superb Food Cons: limited parking more

Lankfords has character 9/13/2005

The uneven floor, unstable tables, and ancient proprieter would make me love this place even if the food wasn't too good to describe. If you want an otherwordly experience for almost nothing, have Saturday morning breakfast. Pros: Ambiance, Food, Price Cons: Parking (none), Small dining room more

Great Food 8/23/2005

Burgers are awesome; very large, very tasty. What is unreal are the specials. I have yet to have one that is not fantastic. Chicken friend steak day in really good. Taco day is insane. Only thing is that the place is very, very, old and small. But once your food arrives you forget about how long you had to wait to eat. Pros: Burgers, Specials, Service Cons: Parking more

Great Food 12/7/2004

I love Chicken Fried Steaks and Lankfords has the best but only on Thursdays, They also have a great Breakfast 6 days a week. As always the folks that wait on you are in good humor. I love taking a crowd there even if we have to take a seat outside on the picnic tables. But be sure to get there before the lunch crowd. more

The BOMB!!! 8/26/2004

I ran across this place by accident. Boy, am I glad that I did. That Old Fashioned cheeseburger was sooooo good. I knew it was too big and I really shouldn't have eaten it all in one sitting, but after the first bite, I couldn't stop. Now, I can't wait until next Thursday to try that chicken fried steak. It just looked good. And the staff was really nice. Pros: Delicious food, Good presentation, Good price more

give it s shot 6/21/2004

The best burger in town and I am not sure there is a close 2nd. The Wednesday enchiladas are great as well. If you go for lunch get there early because it gets packed. Great place more

Makes you feel like Wimpie from Popeye 6/17/2004

Lankfords definately has the best burgers in houston. Fuddruckers and all of those others on the list don't come close. Their chicken fried steak actually has steak in it, not that paper thin layer of beef that other places call steak. Whether you like burgers or salads or chicken fried steak, one thing is for sure, you will come out full but already craving your next visit. Pros: great food, cheap, very friendly Cons: , street parking, need more locations more

Burger Burger Burger! 5/18/2004

If more citysearch users had been to Lankford, I can guarantee that It would win best Burger every year. They are thick, juicy, homemade, and tasty. You can have a shiner, sit on the hardwood floors (some of which are slanted), and stuff yourself. Supposedly they have great enchiladas and chicken fried steak too, but I can't tear myself away from the Burger! Pros: awesome food, close to downtown, served quickly more
