Landing

Maybe because I'd been hearing about this for so long from people who live in Orange Park and other people who knew the Landing in it's "heyday," I was expecting more. All I got were three or four stores selling sports paraphernalia, closed nightclubs, chain restaurants, and a FILTHY, empty food court. And this was on a Saturday afternoon. There was a free concert going on, but there was no one there watching it, which was creepy. The Hooters was PACKED, so I guess that's a good place to eat there, and there were some interesting looking restaurants kind of off to the side. I just learned rather quickly to avoid the landing and just head to San Marco instead for great restaurants, shopping, and a nice atmosphere. The entire downtown area just doesn't seem to want people there on the weekend. It's a ghost town. more

The shopping is sparse and the dining is not particularly exciting but who cares! I love the view of the bridges, the water taxis , and the riverwalk which run past and goes past Berkman plaza one direction and all the way to Fidelity in Riverside in the other. This is a wonderful resource and I can't believe it is not more popular. I enjoy biking and walking along the riverfront. Don't get me wrong there are many food choices and some shopping but the free concerts, holiday decorations and view are what you really want to come here for. more

The Landing is a great place to stop when visiting and exploring downtown Jacksonville. After strolling down the Riverwalk, check out the shops and have a bite to eat at the Landing. My favorite store is The Toy Factory. It carries unique and "vintage" toys (stuff I remember from my childhood) so it appeals to adults as well. There seem to be events happending and live entertainment all the time at the Landing, and this is a popular place to go to celebrate a Jaguars win. more
