I always take my cars to Lamb's for 3 reasons:\r -nicest and cleanest shop I have ever seen\r -great customer service\r -high quality work\r I have never waited there too long...

Beware of Inspection Scam 6/19/2013

On June 17th, 2013 I took in my Toyota Sienna in for an oil change, inspection, and a maintenance check (fluids, whatnot) to Lamb's Automotive and Tire on Bell Blvd in Cedar Park. My usual mechanic does not do inspections, that is why I went to Lamb's.\r \r The mechanic at Lamb's came across some issues and the sales/front office person (I did not get the name, unfortunately), took me back into the shop. I was told that the rack and pinion was leaking, Transmission Plate leaking/seeping, tires were bad, and the one strut was leaking. About $3+K worth of work (per rough estimate of second mechanic whom I later took the vehicle to for a second opinion). Told that this HAD to be done to pass inspection by both the front office person and the manager. In fact, when I questioned the need for all the repairs/replacement and wanted to make sure all HAD to be done, Mike Weir, the manager, looked me in the eye and said: “The TX department of safety says that I cannot pass this vehicle wit more

In fact, when I questioned the need for all the repairs/replacement and wanted to make sure all HAD to be done, Mike Weir, the manager, looked me in the eye and said: “The TX department of safety says that I cannot pass this vehicle with these problems. They MUST be fixed.” \r \r I was upset, not because they found items (being it a 9 year old van with 90,000 miles on it, I wasn't surprised), but because they insisted that everything had to be taken care of in order to pass inspection and I was quite certain this was not true. Skeptical, I took my car home and called another repair shop with whom I normally do business.\r \r The second mechanic took a look at the vehicle. He found the same issues (plus a couple of others, in fact). Yes, there are minor problems, but all were not ones that would prohibit inspection and none which had to be addressed immediately, although the tires should be replaced in 6 months or so (preferably sooner) and the struts very soon, if not immediately after, tire replacement. He verbally told me that all the repairs that he and Lamb's found in common would cost (rough, not an exact quote, but about $3,000). \r \r I was told that the car would pass inspection, to go to a local inspection station and get it done. I did and the car passed inspection. I was told by the man at the inspection station that the tires did pass, but they probably wouldn't next year and it would be best to get them replaced sooner. \r \r This morning I called Mike Weir and told him what I had learned. He denied most everything, stating that he said only the fluid leak on the steering (rack and pinion) had to be addressed, that everything else would not have held up the inspection. This is not true as I had not only asked him directly, but the list given to me by Lamb's was the “list needed to get done to pass the inspection.” He then claimed that Buddy and the inspection station must have missed the leak. (Buddy didn't, but said the leak was not material enough to have to be addressed now, let alone hold back the inspection.)\r \r I do not appreciate being cornered and lied to about repairs and given a false sense of urgency. Had Lamb's done the right thing, the honest thing, and just reported the issues and gave me an honest assessment of what needed to be done, I would have no qualms with that. In fact, I probably would have purchased the new tires from them. more

Good Bargain 10/31/2009

This place was recommended to me by a friend when I wanted to get new tires for my car. The quote that I got was the most pocket friendly when compared to other stores.I bought my tires from these guys and I am happy about it. more

Good All Around 10/15/2009

Stay away what ever you do !!! 5/11/2009

If you want you car to be ruined and have to pay for it go here. Twice I went to this place and had plugs put in. The first time the car ran good for a few days then ran worse then ever. I checked the engine and everything they took off to get to the plugs were put back on hand tight at best. Some nuts and bolts had already fallen off. Took it back, so sorry sir lets us do it again I will see its done right, so says Russel the then manager. I get in the car and the engine light comes on. Go back in and the mechanic, what a joke, comes and and he had not hook up one of the sensors. Pros: None Cons: Mechanics are beyond bad. more

Manager doesn't return phone calls 4/14/2009

I had my GPS stolen from my car when it was in their shop. Manager said he would replace it but it has been a month. Manager did not return 4 phone calls. I had to call again to get the manager on the phone. Every time he says he will have an answer in a few hours. It has been a month now and I have not received anything except empty promises. more

Not to be trusted 3/24/2009

Pros: none Cons: rip people off, customer service is terrible more

Trustworthy mechanic?? 1/12/2009

When my husband and I relocated to Leander we were on the hunt for a good trustworthy mechanic (which is very hard to find). Lamb's was recommended to us by his employees and they offered a discount for his company! They have always been nice and helpful to us. more

Go to some local mechanic...not these chain stores.... 3/25/2008

Yes, Lambs is just another rip-off place like Firestone......they both offer supposedly free check with HUGE recommended unwanted replacements........I had a brand new belt replaced only before 3 months and they tell me this belt needs raplacement...when I asked a mobile mechanic to do me a favour and check my belt for free, he said belt is just fine....They are trying to make my purse just a little lighter.... more

Reconsider what they are telling you 8/14/2007

My '97 Ford Explorer was having brake problems. I told the service man that the brake pads were still under warranty but I needed the rotors replaced. He did a check of the vehicle and discovered $2700 worth of repairs! I told him to do only the brakes. He said that the pads and rotors needed to be replaced. I said okay. I receive the bill ... $639. Wow! He charged $115 labor per axle. He charged about $90 each for the front rotors and about $40 each for the rear rotors. He did not replace the brake pads because they were under a lifetime warranty! Pros: Smiling and generally personable employees. Cons: They were slow to call about repairs. They asked for unnecessary repairs. Their parts prices are inflated. more

Lambs Tire and Automotive Centers 8/13/2007

My daughter was hurrying to depart to Longview, after a several day visit with us in Northwest Austin -she found a dangerous situation in her trailer hitch requiring professional attention. We drove to the store-shop at Research, and one of the men repaired the hitch using vice, etc. He did not charge her, it was a most kind and appreciated help even to send her on a safe trip home. Thank you-this is not the time I have experienced help from this company, and I am a repeat customer. Pros: Great service, several locations in the Austin area more

The Truth 6/19/2007

Whats great about Lambs is they are incredibly profitable. They rip off customers who are not familiar with automobiles. I was a victim a year ago and warned everyone I could. Unfortunately a good friend had to get tires and went to Lambs :( During the visit they told him he had a leak and needed to spend $1762 to fix and replace a bunch of different things in his car. LUCKILY he went for a second opinion somewhere else...guess what? A $75 clip/clamp FIXED the problem. Sooooooo, DON'T GO TO LAMBS!!!! I am saving you money!!!!! Pros: Lots of locations Cons: Criminal business practices more

Amazing service. 7/31/2006

First: they offer shuttle service - a guy comes by to pick you up or drop you off wherever you need to be. I wouldn't recommend abusing it - it's not convenient for them and it keeps them from having as many guys as they need to work on the vehicles they've got in - but it's incredibly handy and saved my neck while the car was in the shop. Pros: Great service. Cons: Didn't fix it right away - but it wasn't a quick-fix sort of problem. more

We trust these guys 7/14/2005

Having recently moved to this area, it has been difficult to fine a mechanic we like. We had a great mechanic in our former city - he did work in his private garage. We were looking for a similar type of service. We encountered Lambs, and find them to be almost as good. They do have higher prices - we expect that since they aren't doing this 'on the side'. And, so far, they do quality work. It also helps that the service manager lives down the street from us! more

Great Service With A Smile 5/23/2002

This is the second time I visited the Cedar Park location as I live north. Both times the employees were courteous and respectful. They always run great specials. I had them do an oil change, but I waited an hour. They don't advertise "express service", but the experience was pleasant and the guys don't try to sell you anything. I'll go back as a regular, satisifed customer. Pros: courteous, non-salesy, great service Cons: longer wait more
