This was YUMMMMMMY 7/3/2011

I enjoyed La Scala with my former boss for lunch. Let me just say, I am glad he was picking up the bill! I had the crabcakes.. and WOW - they were amazing!! We also split bredded Mozzarella in a red sauce that was out of this world. I also had (I stuffed myself) a Tuna Salad sandwich that was so good - what a great time. The staff was friendly and it didn't take long before we were involved with some great food, bubbly water and all caught up on old times!! more

Rude, arrogant and argumentative service. 5/24/2011

Dinner on a Tuesday night. No wonder the place was empty. The service was rude, arrogant and argumentative. I ordered a glass of wine (a brand I know well, often drink at home and have had at this restaurant). Unfortunatly the wine was not good. (It tasted very odd and chemical like). Rather than politely apologize and offer to get a different glass, the waiter was arrogant and refused, claiming that that bottle had just been opened and that it was good. He refused to return to the table and eventually we flagged down the manager. The manager came and had a long, arrogant argument at the table. No one was looking for free wine, just to replace what was not good. The manager too refused to get another glass of wine. He then proceeded to argue what I should do next time I return to the restaurant (who was he kidding? does he really think I would return?) The wine was on the bill, but I can assure you - after the incredibly rude and argumentative service - we did something we have rarely done: NO tip. I will never return. There are too many good restaurants in Los Angeles. more

If you want to be treated like garbage by wait staff... 5/18/2010

I had never been here before, however, I patronize several other restaurants and in particular, the Grand Havana Room, all within a few blocks of La Scala. Pros: Some very pretty people Cons: Horrible, rude wait staff and management. more

Great Chop Salads, Amazing Steaks 5/19/2009

I have been eating here for years The food is consistently good. I am addicted to the chop salads, and their steaks are better than some of the steak houses in the area. There is a new manager that really seems to care and the servers seem to be happier than in times past. The clientele in this area can be demanding, so some consideration should be given to perceived lapses in hospitality. The bar tenders are realy friendly and fast for a quick bite at lunch without waiting for a table. I am there several days a week and see many of the same guests there every day for lunch and again for dinner. That says something about the service and the quality of the food! Pros: Great Star Gazing Here! The service is improving! Cons: Popularity makes it difficult to get in during busy times more

Horrible Service & Food 5/11/2009

Dear LA Diners, Cons: Worst service and italian food in town. more

La Scala - over the hill 8/2/2008

Once a startlet, La Scala has not aged well. The food is mediocre compared to the newer and more fun Italian restaurants in the area. The staff, surly and snotty, is only eager when it comes to clearing and presenting the check. Kind of a melancholy group working a dark dingy room. The waiters leave you with a bad taste in your mouth. The chopped salad is over rated, and the pasta sauces too salty. Bad attitude abounds. There's much better food all along Canon. Cons: They don't like kids or large groups. more

Excellent - never a disappointment 3/31/2008

Great food, excellent service, friendly staff and management. Everything here is always a joy. We love the decor. It's always a perfect experience. more

Best chopped salad ever. 3/5/2008

Oh My Goodness, their salads are sooooooooooooo gooooooooooood. I got hooked on them at one point but then realized that it's just not so healthy to eat only salads. JK...But seriously the chopped salad with turkey is just amazing. Go out and get one and you will see. Pros: excellent salad, bread. Cons: can't think of any. more

I would not patronize this restaurant 10/25/2007

We had a reservation for six on 24 October 2007 for my birthday at 6.30 pm. My brother, who is almost immobile and is in a wheelchair, arrived early and asked to be seated until the others in the party arrived. The person in charge refused, even though by brother and companion had eaten at this same restaurant regularly for over ten years. The restaurant's written policy stated this in a frame in the entry. However, the restaurant which seats probably 100 or more was barely one-quarter full at the time and in addition our table for six had not even been set up for us and this was 6.25 pm. My brother was told that the table would not be set-up until the entire party had arrived at the restaurant to wait outside to be seated. On previous occasions when I had eaten at this restaurant with my brother I had been seated promptly when I had arrived early while waiting for him to arrive. Some inconsistency. Pros: Nothing Cons: Do not allow yourself to be disrespected when you go to this restaurant more

mediocre food awful service / management 12/2/2006

After we arrived at this bh hotspot we sat ignored and thirsty for twenty minutes...I literally got up and asked for service and bread ten minutes later, I recieved both. The waiter was awful, we had to ask to hear the specials at which point he whispered them at one side of the table. We asked him for several things that never came untill we asked the bus boys, who were nice, professional and helpful. The food was disapointing and overpriced...the only good thing about the meal was the eggplant which was delightful. The problem seems to me (after being in the restaurant business for many years) as bad management. The servers don't seem to know much about the food, and they don't seem to care. The hostess was rude and basically threw the menus at us on the table....for a 400 dollar meal i expect to be treated a lot better than this....take me to ago, dominicks or aoc any day of the week...i will never go to la scala again. Pros: eggplant app Cons: everything else more

Decent Italian in a nice neighborhood 11/15/2006

About 10 minutes after we ordered, James Woods pulled in and sat down next to us for lunch with his agent. We nodded at him and ne nodded back. This was my kind of place. My penne arrabiata was flavorful and the sauce was good. My iced tea was exceptional. Our waiter kind of forgot about us but hey, I'd forget me too if I was sitting next to a movie star! I can get similar quality Italian at a dozen other places, but I dig the atmosphere and star-watching here. Pros: star-watching Cons: so-so service more

Good salad, but that's about it. 7/31/2006

I went for lunch with some co-workers. It's basically a hole in the wall and parking is nightmare. You HAVE TO valet. It was kind of busy so we sat at the bar to avoid a wait. I had a chopped salad with turkey and it was better than it looked. The tea was great. The service was only OK at best...maybe that's just at the bar. It had to have taken us 20 minutes to get a check and get more bread. But, the salad is worth a try. Pros: Good Salad and Tea! Cons: Pricey, iffy service. more

Great Lunch time salads 2/8/2003

I had a great lunch with my friends. It had ok ambience but a great lunch crowd and the chopped salad was a winner. I will be back for lunch more
