Take a trip to France! 12/8/2010

I have never actually gone to France, but based on two wonderful meals at La Mirabelle, I know that I will have to eventually get on that plane! The atmosphere in the restaurant is cozy and inviting, and the food (I love the duckling with mirabelle plums) is divine. The wines served with each course balance the palette and if you are lucky, a song or two from one of the excellent staff (in an earthy contralto voice) will complete the evening. Add to that the paintings which cover the walls with images of Breton (also done by one of the staff) and it's time to make that reservation for your next trip. more

Excellent Classic French Bistro Cuisine 6/14/2010

If you are occasionally nostalgic for the days when there was no such thing as fusion cuisine, as I am, this is the place for you. We had an excellent meal of their specialty, duck, and soft-shelled crab. We had a charming and efficient young French waitress. But I specifically want to mention the kindness of Madame who held our reservation on a Saturday night, when we called and explained that we had been sitting in traffic at the George Washington Bridge for over an hour. It had been such an awful day that I almost teared up when she said that she would hold our table until we arrived, whenever that was. I haven't lived in New York for many years, but she made me love it all over again! Pros: value and quality of food, warm, pleasant atmosphere more

What a way to spend a birthday! 9/12/2009

My best friend, Karen (affectionately referred to as Soffarina) took me for the first time tonight to this exquisite little gem of a restaurant right in my neighborhood! I've lived in NYC and on the upper west side for thirty-one years, and somehow had never been here. It was gorgeous. We sat in the balcony, and enjoyed the roomy, expansive feel of the place--as well as the beautiful artwork. The food was extraordinary--from bread, to Caesar salad, to steak au poivre, creme brulee and coffee--all delicious. What a charming place--the lady who makes the desserts even sang Happy Birthday at my table! Don't miss this charming restaurant. I didn't pay, as I was being treated, but the value was also terrific. Ooh la la La Mirabelle! more

Excellent 9/3/2009

La Mirabelle is not trendy French! FINALLY! This restaurant is the real deal. The family run operation serves very good French food without all of the pretense of most New York restaurants. I recommend the duck, the sweetbreads, the chicken livers, and the onion soup. Their wines are well-chosen and compliment the menu. The service is always excellent and friendly. The atmosphere is French country quaint. When you get tired of the glitz and glamor of the trendier NY spots, move up to a real meal at La Mirabelle. You will be glad that you did. more

Brittany comes to New York 12/20/2008

I've had the privelege of going to Brittany, France. La Mirabelle is the best Breton resturant on this side of the Atlantic. It has a very quaint and cozy atmosphere lightens the heart the moment you walk throught the door. The presentation and food was excellent. I would recommend this French bistro to anyone. more

Warm staff. simple but well-executed country French cuisine. 10/27/2006

A friend introduced my husband and I to this place and I've always had consistently good food and service here. They even sold me on the pate which is delicious( I am not usually very fond of pate). The wine list is very good as well. It is a great warm, relaxed and informal place to take family and friends. The restaurant is good for large groups as they have upstairs seating. Pros: Tasty Cuisine and great service more

The real french cuisine 3/28/2006

This place is very low key, I have walked by it countless times without noticing it, but once you eat there that all changes- you remember the place for good. This is a real french place where the staff is French. The food is excellent and the wine selection even greater. The price is very right for what you get. The ambiance is quite unique and the place gets crowded earlier, because of the elderly clientel that attends the restaurant. Everyone has a place in the restaurant and you can find seeting just right for you. Pros: food and wine, service, authenticity more

Very french... 12/21/2003

The food at La Mirabelle is excellent but the atmosphere made me uncomfortable. It is a bit stuffy and pretentious. Many of the diners were very formally dressed, while the restaurant looks and feels like someone's extra-large living room. The waitress took forever to bring us our cheque... For those who like this scene, go ahead. Otherwise, don't bother. more

a waste of time and money 9/15/2003

visiting this establishment on a sunday night - maybe it was the chefs night off starters mediocre salad and overcooked chicken livers followed by beef borgigenon that tasted out of a tin topped with peas and onions and monkfish made of rubber and tasteless desserts that were preprapared from the freezer. If this is the best they can do dont bother Pros: fast service Cons: inedible food more

This is a GREAT place and I can't believe I didn't come to Mirabelle sooner. The food is to die for. I would not say that all their dishes are perfect but the lambshanks and mussels marinere come close to perfection. Pros: Great wine list, Smart & friendly staf, Lambshanks! more

Fantastic French on the Upper West 2/3/2003

To say it simply: the food was excellent, the atmosphere was elegant but not overly formal, the service was prompt and friendly, and the price was reasonable. I look forward to returning, as do my three friends. more
